Currently, under the leadership of an active Board of Directors, the Clinic serves patients in our community with a Supervising Staff Dentist, 12 Volunteer Dentists, one part-time Dental Hygienist and two Dental Assistants. In 2019, our Staff Dentist spent 1,027 hours with patients. Our volunteer dentists matched those hours with a total of 914 hours.
Our volunteer dentists are our heroes, selflessly giving countless hours of their time, receiving no compensation, and deriving benefit only from knowing that they are providing a more normal life to those who would otherwise live in pain. With well over 100 years of cumulative dental service, our team of dentists brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Blue Ridge Free Dental Clinic. We currently have 12 active volunteer dentists.
The Blue Ridge Free Dental Clinic delivers high-quality dental care to people who cannot otherwise afford these critically needed services. Motivated by the beliefs and core values of our contributors and founding churches, we restore lives, one tooth at a time.
Foundation grants, donations from churches, community groups, businesses and individuals, and volunteer time given to the Clinic over the past several years have made the progress outlined below possible. We are grateful for their generosity, which has allowed us to change the lives of so many of our mountain neighbors.
2005: The Blue Ridge Mountains Health Project, Inc. was formed to create a permanent Free Dental Clinic in Cashiers to address the dental needs of underserved populations. The Clinic operated in a 1,400 square-foot space with used equipment and served 222 patients with one volunteer dentist and a hygienist
2016: The Clinic serves patients in our community with one Staff Dentist, 10 Volunteer Dentists, two Registered Dental Hygienists and two Dental Assistants. Donor and foundation support enabled the Clinic to upgrade its radiology and charting systems to digital technology
2018: n The Clinic’s staff dentist treats patients three days a week, hygiene is offered three days a week and ten volunteer dentists treat patients throughout the year, moving us to a five-day-a-week operation
Our accomplishments have not gone unnoticed by many health leaders in NC. In 2017, the NC Department of Rural Health awarded the Clinic a grant to support our Hygiene Program and the Duke Endowment recently awarded the Clinic a prestigious three-year grant to help increase access to dental care in WNC. Additionally, the Clinic was recognized as one of the top performing clinics in the state by the NC Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NCAFCC) and by Blue Cross Blue Shield NC Foundation.

Love these guys! They are very good at what they do and they don't just give up on helping you. I've had several appointments here so far and each one has been a pleasant experience! They will also help you with getting yours dentures. They send over a referral to Affordable Dentures & (if you qualify) even put $400 towards helping to pay for them! Their really knowledgeable professionals that really go above and beyond to help lower income people, like me.

Heyyyyyy,.. To whoever sees this,... I called every single dentist I could find within an hour's drive of my house and none I mean not a single place I called would see me, It was either due to the spread of coronavirus or they are not taking New patients, When I called blue ridge dental they immediately return my call and schedule an appointment with me Quickly. The Dr and her assistant was AMAZING, I cannot express how much I want to say these ladies were the best I recommend sooooooooo much. I was in so much pain I couldn't even think straight. I had a rather large procedure done and they were BEYOND great!!!!!

I went to the dentist regularly until I had a horrific experience in 2000. Traumatizing me to the point I would shake and cry 20 years later, just by calling and making an appointment at BLUE RIDGE DENTAL CLINIC. I went through so much pain and misery, letting it go to the point an abscess ruptured on the outside of my face. Had I known how truly awesome and totally amazing the Dr. and her assistant are, I would have went years ago. I have never had any type of medical setting make me as comfortable and at ease as these two people did. The bedside manner they displayed is impeccable. Dentist should have to take a class from them before graduating. I can not thank you enough!! I highly recommend BLUE RIDGE DENTAL CLINIC, as someone who's never really been afraid of anything except a dentist and my mama, I am looking forward to my next visit and getting the dental issues I have resolved-after two decades. Sidenote** if the "assistant" is reading this...honey learn everything you can from her, you have an awesome teacher. I believe you are right where you are supposed to be!
