My name is Dr. John Scalas. I was born and raised in Southern California and attended St. Cyprian School, St. John Bosco High School, and received my undergraduate degree in biology from California State University in Long Beach. My Doctorate in Dental Surgery is from the University of Southern California and I have been with the practice since 2004. I am a Mentor and graduate of the Kois Center for Advanced Dental Science and the Newport Harbor Academy of Dentistry, as continuing to gather education and skills is key to providing the highest quality dentistry for my patients.
I was actually a patient at this very office throughout my childhood, and this early experience with dentistry served as the inspiration for my own career path. My goal is patient care in all aspects of preventative, restorative, and esthetic dentistry in a compassionate and peaceful environment.
My hobbies include golf, fantasy football, and perfecting my BBQ technique for my family and friends. My wife, Nicole, and I have been married since 1997 and we have four children: Amelia, Sara, Jack, and Julia. We spend a great deal of time at their sporting events such as soccer, swim, flag football, and gymnastics.
Dr. Ikoma, an exceptional prosthodontist, has joined our practice to help support your oral health care needs. We have taken great care to find someone who can uphold the high quality of service that all of our patients have come to appreciate.
She earned both her D.D.S. degree and Advanced Prosthodontics Certificate from the University of Southern California, School of Dentistry. A well respected educator, Dr. Ikoma was Chair of Diagnosis and Treatment Planning at the University of Southern California, School of Dentistry before joining our practice. She has also previously worked in private practice and at the USC Faculty Practice as well. She has helped to educate countless practitioners providing high quality dental care to patients around the world.

Upon entering Dr. John Scalas dental office, my wife and I were welcomed by him his staff and treated like family. Dr. Scalas' expertise and caring manner has made visiting the dentist a most pleasant experience.

The entire staff is so sweet, wonderful and welcoming. They walk you through every step of the process, answer any questions you have and make sure you're extremely comfortable constantly throughout your visit. Dr. Scalas is wonderful, super patient welcoming, and very good at what he does.

I can tell you that both my parents and myself have been coming to Dr. Scalas for years and he is a tooth genius! I put my full trust in him for anything that I need done and all of his Staff are always so kind and professional and really care about every person they see. They do a phenomenal job and know their field exceptionally well! No need to fear the dentist ever again! I'm telling you, just go! You will not be disappointed! Make sure you are able to cover your costs but the work they do is always worth it! The office itself it very clean and pleasant too! Best to you all! Heather Berson

Best dental office I have been to and I've been to several! I love the staff who are super nice and attentive, their work is phenomenal and they make you feel right at home. It's like that show Cheers "where everybody knows your name, and their always glad you came. Also,they've got a relaxing pond with fishes in there. Super great for Instagram pics

I am and have always been terrified of the dentist. As a result, I have never been someone who saw the dentist on a regular basis. Additionally, I suffer from claustrophobia and panic attacks. I know logically that I am a difficult patient, that it takes more time to see me, lots of coddling when I have a procedure, and follow up to make sure I am comfortable and feel safe. All that goes into seeing a patient like me is not ideal, I know, but I can say honestly and sincerely that I have NEVER EVER felt like a difficult patient. I have always only left with an immense gratitude for their care and understanding and have NEVER had to feel embarrassed for needing more help or felt that they were frustrated to have to care for me. The compassion in this office is unmatched and as a 46 year old woman I have had other experiences to draw from. My only motivation in writing this review is that I LOVE my dentist and want to tell everyone.

This place is the BEST!!! I've been going to my dentist for 30 years and he has decided to retire, so, of course I had to find a new one. I went with Dr. Scales today to have him look at a cracked tooth. When I walked into the office I was greeted by the friendliest front office receptionist, she took the time to get to know me alittle bit while I waited to be taken back into the room, Sylvia really made me feel like I belonged there. This place is super clean and plays good music (fun bonus). When I got into the room I was greeted my the nicest dental assistant. We chatted about life and living in Ca. as she was doing my Xrays, she was not in a rush and took great care while doing the Xrays. Dr. Scales came in with a smile and a "it's nice to meet you, what brings you here". He looked over my Xray's explaining to me the treatment that would be needed to fix a cracked tooth (a crown :( . Dr. Scales was gentle and confident while he looked around in my mouth and I have all the confidence that he will do great fixing that tooth. My only regret is that I didn't go to him years ago. Do not hesitate to go to Dr. Scales, you will get the star treatment.

I'm so grateful to have found Dr Scalas! A dear friend referred me to him, as I am beyond fearful of dental work, and haven't seen a dentist in some time. My experience has been amazing, from the initial consultation to multiple appointments and procedures. His team is friendly, professional, and everyone is very comforting, and sensitive about my difficulty in being there. Dr Scalas, you're one of a kind .. so glad to be a patient!

Dr. Scalas is the best! I had a tooth ache that was radiating pain and he made me feel so comfortable and listened too. The whole staff is incredibly nice and Slylvia at the desk always makes me feel so welcomed!

If you're looking for a great Dentist office, this is the place. I'm new to this area and have been going to Bloomfield Dental Group for about 2 years. I am no stranger to a Dentists chair and sadly as I get older (60) I've become more anxious. Besides my regular cleaning with Katie, I've been made aware that a number of my old crowns need to be replaced. This is no surprise to me, since I'm a major grinder at night, but was definitely dreading the whole experience. I had to write a review and let everyone know what a great experience I had.... Yes, I'm still talking about my major dental procedure!! Dr. Michelle Ikoma, Prosthodontics trained and was a Professor at USC for 18 years. She specializes in treating difficult cases. She and her friendly and capable assistant Lori Martin made sure I was comfortable, relaxed and properly numbed. The procedure went smoothly, and I couldn't believe how well it went. I never thought I would say this, but I have a few more crowns to be replaced, and I'm actually not dreading the appointment. I know a good Dentist is difficult to find, I highly recommended Dr. Ikoma and Bloomfield Dental Group.

Read this if you're serious about finding an excellent dental practice. You will not find a better dentist than Dr. Scalas, and his entire staff meets the same quality of excellence. From start to finish you will be dealing with an exceptional group of highly-skilled, professional yet very warm and genuinely caring people. I had been cared for by this office for many years until we moved to AZ, at which time cold reality hit; after much research we tried three different dental practices, over time, without finding one that met the standards of Dr. Scalas and staff. For example, when in AZ my husband received a "bite plate" (mouth guard), the Dentist did not check his technician's work; the finished product didn't fit quite right and my husband immediately said "this would not have happened with Dr. Scalas as he carefully inspects all work done in his practice" - no matter how seemingly insignificant. One AZ dentist actually damaged my tooth when crowning it, and another missed an abcess which resulted in very serious health consequences (and the loss of the tooth). This will not happen to you at this Bloomfield Dental Group in Cypress. When having these problems and also when having a dental crisis overseas, I wrote to Dr. Scalas for advice, even though I was no longer his patient. He responded each time with concern and excellent guidance. We have since moved back to CA and have resumed our relationship with this office, with immense relief. Their pricing is average as seen among the better dental groups. The office is very clean, attractive, the koi pond delightful, and there is sedation dentistry available. Their work is thorough and they truly make every effort to make you comfortable and to give you the best care possible. You will be thoroughly informed of your situation and your options. They will not try to "sell" you anything. In conclusion, I have just received a new bridge and as expected, the work was of the highest quality as was the entire experience. You may have confidence that they really care about their patients at this practice, and their work is exceptional. You cannot do better than to bring yourself and your loved ones here for dental care!

Dr. Scalas is the best dentist I have ever had. His work is like magic. He works so fast and gets it right from the 1st attempt. When i visit the office, its like i am visiting family. i always have a beautiful experience every time. i highly recommend.
