Dr. Bates then went on to complete further specialty training in orthodontics by attending orthodontics residency programs where he earned his master's degree and certificate in orthodontics (two years). That's a long road and a lot of degrees to ensure that you are receiving the highest level of care possible!
Dr. Bates is highly trained in all areas of orthodontics, including braces for both children and adults, clear aligner treatment (Invisalign), jaw surgery, interdisciplinary care, and craniofacial syndromes such as cleft palate.

Dr. Blanchette recently retired from the practice, however, his legacy continues on in all of the beautiful smiles hes created in the Lynchburg area. He considers it a blessing to have been able to serve Lynchburg and the surrounding communities for the past 29 years.
He enjoyed building relationships with each of his patients and their families and keeping up with any sports or activities they are involved in (he is a sports fanatic). Dr. Blanchette is grateful to have been trusted with treating multiple generations of many of his patients families.
Dr. Blanchette completed his undergraduate education at The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!) and then went on to attend The University of Detroit School of Dentistry, where he graduated with honors and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1990.
Dr. Blanchette then returned to his roots to complete his specialty training in orthodontics at The University of Oklahoma (Go Sooners!), where he received his Graduate Certificate in Orthodontics and Master of Science degree in 1992.
Dr. Blanchette always enjoyed learning new techniques through continuing education and also had a passion for keeping up with the latest technology, including digital scanning and 3D printing. Dr. Blanchette is also a past president of the Lynchburg Dental Society.
Dr. Bates is a native of Houston Texas and will forever love a good pair of boots, Tex-Mex food, and country music. He and his lovely wife, Courtney, welcomed their beautiful daughter, Brinley Ann, to their family in July 2021.
They also have an energetic pup named Kali who loves to adventure around Virginia's great outdoors with them. Dr. Bates considers it a true blessing to be able to impact his patients by providing the smile they've always dreamed of. He prides himself on providing excellent treatment results and building lasting relationships with his patients and their families.
Dr. Bates graduated with honors and earned his Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University in 2014 and then went on to attend The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry, where he graduated at the top of his class and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2019.
He completed his specialty training in orthodontics at one of the nation's most prestigious residency programs, Virginia Commonwealth University, where he received his Graduate Certificate in Orthodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry in 2021.
Additionally, Dr. Bates has been the recipient of numerous awards for academic and research excellence, including an international award and publication for his research in maxillofacial prosthetics and an award from the Southern Association of Orthodontists for his research on Invisalign.
Some of his strongest relationships have been formed while working as a camp counselor, leading with Young Life, serving on international mission trips, and co-founding a ministry to reach healthcare professionals during his time in dental school.

Exceptional team of caring staff and doctors! They utilize the latest technology and treat each patient with such grace and kindness. We could not ask for more caring knowledgable orthodontic care and education! The exceptional experience is one you would like to find at any medical or dental office but very rare and special. I would choose Blanchette&Bates Ortho again and again for myself or my family. The office itself is very clean and beautifully designed. As a parent I look forward to watching the many birds who frequent the feeders all around the building as it backs up to Blackwater creek natural area. The doctors go above and beyond to be generous with their time and make efforts to get to know patients in a way that makes them feel valued. You will never be just a number here! Insurance issues and costs can be a great concern and again this is an area this team shines!! From the first visit you know exactly where you stand and what to expect. Ann Is very willing to do the background work and phone calls to assure you pay the least possible and have the maximum insurance benefit available to you. We are so appreciative of the Invisalign experience we have had here and highly recommend them as one of the best offices of any type we've ever encountered.

Dr. Bates has been wonderful for our son who has some rather complex challenges. He is always kind, even when explaining what he needs to do differently, and communicates well without talking down to him. Oral care has been very challenging and scary for him my son in the past, but my son looks forward to orthodontist appointments with Dr. Bates and Blanchette. I cannot say enough good things about how kind and supportive the entire office team has been for him!

Dr. Bates and his staff are so professional and friendly. Whenever I am in the office, they are very helpful and efficient. As an older patient who has come back to orthodontics for the third time, it has been an extremely pleasant experience. Dr. Bates is utilizing Invisalign. My teeth look like they did 45 years ago, after my second round of braces. Invisalign is so easy and comfortable, that compliance was a breeze. I strongly disliked the old fashioned retainers and braces! Do yourself or loved ones a favor and call Blanchette and Bates Orthodontics today!

Every step of the process is easy with Dr. Blanchette's office. The customer service is always outstanding, and Dr. Blanchette and clinical staff are caring, knowledgeable, and friendly. My daughter actually looks forward to going to every appointment. Not to mention the results were outstanding! I highly recommend this office.

The staff here are great! Everyone is super nice and seem to love what they do. My son received his braces last year and I compliment him daily on how pretty his teeth are even with his braces on. My other son will soon be getting his braces from Blanchette Orthodontics. Nothing says confidence more then having a pretty smile . Okay, it's March 2021 and I'm back with an update. My second son has been wearing his braces since last July, even though his teeth weren't too bad, just spacing between teeth, I immediately saw his teeth responding to the braces and they've come together beautifully. I myself wore braces once upon a time but I've noticed 1 or 2 spaces, so I've made an appointment with Blanchette Orthodontics to see if retainers would may or may not be needed. Lol, stay tuned for part 3 of my next review

If I could rate higher than 5 stars I would! I had my braces for like 2-3 years and had them removed almost four years ago. I went in today to get adjustments on my retainer because my teeth shifted (my own fault for misplacing my retainer and not wearing it) and the staff was just unbelievable! It honestly felt like a family reunion. Everyone was so excited to see me and remembered me! they told my how much I had changed asked about my brother, and were even ecstatic about finding out I am engaged! they also remembered my fiance who had his braces with them as well. They let me into my appointment early and they fixed my retainer no problem. I was told to come back anytime if I ever needed anything and to make sure I send wedding photos. When you have work done at Blanchettes you become family and I honestly could not thank them enough for giving my a smile i can happily show off on my wedding day!

Close to completion of my new smile and very pleased with the results. My team has always been Dr. B and Stacey. Stacey is professional, efficient, knowledgeable, has a gentle touch and always very pleasant. Although my decision to get braces was made much later in life than most, I'm glad I made the decision and glad Blanchette Orthodontists helped me accomplish my goal.
