A lifelong resident of Central Pennsylvania, Dr. Black is a fourth-generation dentist who always knew that he would choose to return to his roots. His undergraduate years at Dickinson College in Carlisle were followed by dental training at the Fairleigh Dickinson School of Dentistry. Dr. Blacks academic career includes such honors as the Clinical Efficiency Awards in Endodontics (root canals), Presidency of the American Student Dental Association, prestigious teaching fellowships, and induction into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.
In 1991, after a couple of short stints as an associate in other dental offices, Dr. Black acquired a dental practice in Midtown Harrisburg andrelocated it to the current location in 1997. While many professional offices have moved to the suburbs, the vibrancy and diversity of Midtown Harrisburg as well as the convenient location for patients who work downtown, live in the city, or who are just across a bridge on the West Shore have kept him here.
Dr. Black is also a devoted family man and musician. He has been married to his wife, Sue, for over 30 years and they have two grown children. A trumpet player since he was 11, Dr. Black has enjoyed the position of principal trumpet player for theCentral Pennsylvania Symphonyfor over 25 years and has performed with local symphonies and vocal groups. In addition to classical performances,he has performed as a soloist for weddings and church services, and in various local jazz bands, town bands, and pit orchestras. He currently is a member of classic R&B band Class Act Featuring Rita.

Dr. Black's bedside manner is phenomenal. I'm pretty high anxiety in general but his ability to discuss topics that are of general interest distracts my mind. I'm really grateful to have found Dr. Black and his practice!

I've been going to Dr. Black since I've been in the Harrisburg area. I am usually very fearful of dentists because it's always been an unpleasant experience, but Dr. Black is amazing. He listens to my concerns and makes sure I am comfortable before beginning procedures. 10/10 recommend Dr. Black!

Never been there, but asked if they were taking new patients, they said yes, and I told them what was wrong and why I wanted a new dentist. The receptionist pretty much told me to go back to my old dentist to get what I needed done. After I told them my old dentist was a nightmare. How do you tell someone that. Wondering if her boss knows how she turns people away. She is a sad story. I'm guessing she gets a lot of rejection in her life and uses it back. I'm so annoyed and can't believe how her customer service was.

I don't even want to give him one....I have been a patient at Dr. Blacks for over 15 years and I've never been treated with such disrespect like their receptionist treated me as soon as I walked in the office. The way she represented his office while he said nothing, caused me to find a new dentist.

I've gone to Dr. Black for over 30 years. My entire family still sees him. He is amazing. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a great family dentist.

I cannot say enough to properly give this Dentist and his staff the credit they so greatly deserve. First let me say that I am not local to this area, I was in the area for business and experienced a dental emergency. I was provided with prompt, courteous service and was blown away by his bedside manner. As if this was not enough, I was then given my bill and was yet again pleasantly surprised. In a world were it seems that we are all just a number to most Dr's, this practice really made me feel like I was considerably more than that. I am going back to Dr Black again while I am in town to have more work done because of the unique experience he provided. Don't be scared of this Dentist!!!!!
