Kasey joined Dr. Blacks team after studying dental assisting at A-B Tech and graduating in 2000. She had the privilege of getting a better smile as an adult as Dr. Black perfected her teeth using clear braces. Having braces was a great experience! she says. It was more comfortable and no additional appliances were needed. It was also great that the cosmetic appearance of the clear brackets made it less noticeable.

Kasey grew up as the second oldest of five children, and is now a mother of four beautiful daughters and the wife of a football coach. She loves her big family, and in her free time (which is rare) she loves camping, going to the lake, the beach, or anything water related. She smiles as she says I also spend a lot of time on the football field.

Why does she love Black Orthodontics? I love the staff! Everyone is fun and happy. We have the best boss who gives us opportunities to grow and learn in this profession. We laugh together, cry together, workout together, and share life together. I also love meeting new people and adore seeing lives change through their smiles.

Heather knows a lot about orthodontics! She wore braces as a kid for three years and then Dr. Black perfected her smile with Invisalign before her wedding. No one ever noticed that I was straightening my teeth. After having braces for a very long time Invisalign was the perfect option for me!

This Georgia girl joined the Black Orthodontic Team not because of her experience in orthodontics, but because of her background in public relations and customer service. She had a B.A. in Business Marketing and has been a proud mini-orthodontist for Dr. Black since July 2007. I absolutely love my job and feel extremely blessed to say thatnot too many people get to love what they do and who they do it with.

When Heather is not working, she enjoys working out, eating, and of course shopping. She has two little girls, Mary Blair and Charlie, husband Patrick, and two Gold Retrievers, Sage and Simms. Life is busy but good! Being a mom has been my biggest accomplishment by far and made me a better Treatment Coordinator. I love that Dr. Black is all about taking care of kids and adults like they were family. Im learning every day to do the same.

Jessica almost didnt work in the dental field, but somehow, she ended up following in the footsteps of her family. After studying Public Relations at Western Carolina Univesity, she graduated from the dental assisting program at AB-Tech. It was during one of her rotations at Black Orthodontics that she fell in love with the dynamic environment that only orthodontics provides.

Jessica had Dr. Black perfect her smile, and she says, Having braces myself has given me a better understanding of what we do. We are not just straightening teeth; we are changing lives! A beautiful, healthy smile can open doors and increase your confidence. She joined the team at Black Orthodontics in 2003, and she is truly a Jane of all trades. Shes worked in all areas of the office and is now the office manager. Jessica says, Our team is extraordinary, and we are all add something different to our group. Once you have experienced customer service from Black Orthodontics, you will understand why we are the best. We arent just co-workers, we are family.

Lana joined the team in 2010 after graduating from the dental program at A-B Tech. She is our Clinical Coordinator and serves as Dr. Blacks right handhelping him put braces on patients teeth, take them off when treatment is done, and everything else in between.

She is the youngest daughter of 14 children and grew up in Ukraine. She and her family immigrated to the United States when she was 13; following in her uncles footsteps as he had moved here in search of religious freedom more than a decade before them. She is fluent in Ukrainian, Russian, and English.

Lana loves spending time with her husband and their 3 children, Ben, Ella, and Samuel. They like to go hiking and ride their bikes together. Family time is really cherished, she says, as is time with her work family. Her favorite thing is helping Dr. Black take braces off. I love it because the patients are so excited and happy to be there! Theyve looked forward to seeing their new and improved smile.

What does Lana want everyone to know about orthodontics? Its not just for aesthetics, it really benefits overall health. Also, the more you smile, the more positive you are, and people love it; they want to be around you.

Before coming to work for Dr. Black, Sonia worked at a pediatric dental clinic and still loves working with children and helping them improve their smiles. She still remembers how orthodontics changed the way she felt about herself for the better. A smile lasts a lifetime, and being able to touch an individual and give them the gift of a smile is amazing.

She wants people to know that its never too late, though, even if youre an adult. Braces are not as noticeable as they were in the past. They are less invasive and more comfortable. Youre never too old to get the smile youve always wanted!

Sonia grew up in Mexico, and her husband, Wladimir, is from Chile. She loves spending time with him and their children, Emily and Santiago. I like to garden, hike, and be in nature, she says. Her other hobbies include jewelry making, flower arranging, traveling, sleeping, and spending time with her congregation.

Dee is the first smile you see when you walk through the door at Black Orthodontics. She is the cheerful and bright administrative assistant who loves making sure everyone leaves feeling better than they arrived.

Before joining the team at Blacks in 2015, she served as a teachers assistant in regular and special needs classrooms for Madison County Schools. One of Danielles passions is painting murals and canvas wall art. She credits this skill to her parentsher father is talented at drawing and her mother worked with children and is super creative, which Danielle translated into artistic forms. Clients at Black Orthodontics benefit from this talent, as some will ask her to produce art they can give as gifts to their loved ones.

When shes not at work or creating art, Danielle loves to work out and quote lines from her favorite TV show, The Office. She can be seen around Asheville driving her Jeep Wrangler with the roof off and a smile on her face!

If you make an impact in somebodys life, youre going to get that back, she says. You never know what youre going to say or do to someone that will make them feel better. Its all about giving their confidence a boost! I love that Dr. Black provides amazing smiles to our patients and truly makes a difference in everyones lives.

Dr. Black welcomed her to the team in 1991, and she is our Sterilization Coordinator, helps out in the lab, and serves as the right hand to each of our chairside assistants. Her work here is very important and she helps with many tasks in lots of other areas of the office as well.

Marie had braces as an adult and loves her smile! She loves coming to work and spending time with her work family. Most of the time shes pretty quiet, but she lets loose around her friends! Youll recognize Marie because most days youll see her dancing around the office and working like crazy. When Marie is not working, she enjoys going to church, spending time with her husband and family, and listening to all kinds of music. She likes to relax by creating beautiful art pictures. Her favorite TV shows are Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. What makes her smile? Life and happiness!

Pam has been with Black Orthodontics for over 22 years. She has a B.A. in Sociology from Appalachian State University and worked with the Head Start program before shifting into orthodontics. Pam is a Haywood County native and has been happily married to her husband, Steve, for over 37 years. They have a son, Blake, who is a graduate student at Rutgers University in New Jersey. We are avid outdoor enthusiasts, she shares, I love to hike and bike around beautiful WNC and beyond. We backpacked in the Rocky Mountain National Park in summer 2014 and hiked over the highest non-technical mountain during a thunderstorm. I was terrified!

Recently, Pam has retired, but is still a part of our team and always eager to help out she can. She says, For me, there is no place like Black Orthodontics. One of the many reasons is because of Dr. Blacks involvement in charities and community service projects. Also, Dr. Black is a fabulous orthodontist and we have a wonderful team that I am proud to call my friends!

If you are ever in need of a bubbly and bright personality, look no further than our Emily! Emily became a part of our work family straight out of dental assisting school at AB Tech. I feel so blessed to work with Dr. B and our awesome team because we all strive to make everyone feel like family, Emily says with a smile.

Emily recently finished up with Invisalign. I really enjoyed the Invisalign system. It became part of my routine, and I loved the freedom it gave me to eat whatever I wanted along with being virtually invisible! I love my Dr. Black smile!

Emily lives in Maggie Valley with her husband, Chase, and their four-legged fur-child, a Maltipoo, named Rudy. They love to take camping trips around WNC, especially close to lakes. She enjoys singing in her church choir and spending time with her family. Shopping is one of her favorite things to do-particularly for shoes and bags!

Sam is one of our amazing orthodontic assistants. She has a B.S. in Biology from UNC Wilmington and has been working in orthodontics for over 2 years. Sam straightened up her smile with Invisalign! I enjoyed my experience with Invisalign. It was fascinating to see my progress as my teeth shifted into alignment!

She is our Go-to Gal for fun facts about anything! Sam is newly engaged (cue The Wedding March) and has a giant, yellow, lab named Cash along with a little, black cat named Jasper-They are the best of friends! Sam also has a twin sister who recently began orthodontic treatment with Dr. Black. On her off days, Sam enjoys hiking, pilates, trying new restaurants downtown, and spending time with her adorable nephew, Otto.

Kennedy became a part of the Black Orthodontics family in early 2019 as a chairside assistant. Kennedys mother has been a dental assistant for over 21 years, sparking her interest in the dental field. Her curiosity in orthodontics began when she was in braces herself. I was fascinated with the entire process and loved how amazing I felt when my braces were removed! Before braces, I never smiled showing my teeth because I was not happy with how they looked. Now, I love to smile! It has made me feel so wonderful and confident.

Kennedy lives in McDowell County with her husband (and high school sweetheart), Josh and their adorable 4 year old, 100 lb, Bernedoodle, Hampton. When she is away from the office, Kennedy loves to go camping, spend time at the lake, take naps, shop at TJ Maxx, and watch reruns of Friends. She also enjoys volunteering for her church. I love spending time teaching our children and teenagers; it is so fun and gratifying.
