At Black Canyon Dental we treat all of our patients as individuals with specific needs. We have worked with patients with extreme anxiety who are afraid to treat their dental issues. Whether we are working on a toddler or an adult we find out how to make the procedure as comfortable as possible

Many people avoid the dentist because of fear and anxiety. Many people live with toothaches and dental pain because they are afraid of visiting a dental office. Also, many people want a better smile but are reluctant to seek treatment because of the anxiety that is associated with a visit to the dentist. At Black Canyon Dental, we are able to treat your dental needs without fear, anxiety, or pain. We offer different levels of sedation depending on the desired level of comfort.

Black Canyon Dental - General dentist in Montrose, CO

Intravenous (IV) sedation places a person into a profound state of comfort by instantly removing fear and anxiety. A combination of sedative agents and pain relievers are administered intravenously to place the patient into an immediate state of relaxation. IV sedation is very predictable and extremely safe because it can be precisely controlled. Most patients are shocked when their dental procedure is over because time passes very quickly and comfortably. IV sedation is performed by less than 5% of dentists in Colorado. It requires a special license and extensive training. Dr. Daniel Reardon holds an IV sedation license issued by the state of Colorado and has successfully completed the training and requirements to perform sedation. You can be assured that you are in good hands with IV sedation at Black Canyon Dental.

Our restorative tooth colored fillings area resin mixture used to restore decayed teeth. Tooth colored fillings are also used for cosmetic improvements of the smile by changing the color of the teeth or reshaping disfigured teeth.

Since most people in their adult lives have needed at least one or two crowns, they know that the process involved is very cumbersome. Normally, when a patient visits the dentist for treatment through a crown, the dentist first numbs the particular tooth so that the crown can fit onto the preparation. Then a mold or an impression of that preparation is made.

Once this is done, the impression or the mold is sent to the lab for fabrication. In the meantime, the patient will be given a temporary restoration which is to be worn for one to two weeks until the lab fabricates the original restoration. The problem with the temporary restoration is that it is very weak and it comes off easily.

The reduced use of time for the entire process makes the CEREC system ideal for patients with busy professional and personal lives. Normally, patients can watch a movie and even before the credits are done the entire procedure would be done and over with. Unlike in the past, a patient will not have to deal with the numbing of the tooth, handling a temporary crown and make return visits to the dentist.

CEREC same day crowns offer an excellent solution for people who wish to minimize their visits to the dentists office. But many people tend to think that same day crowns may not be as effective or as long lasting as conventional crowns. However, the truth is that there is no difference between the durability of conventional crowns and same day crowns. Same day crowns are made faster because of the computer-aided technology that helps the dentist fabricate the crown quickly and with a high degree of accuracy. It has nothing to do with the quality of the crown. The durability of the crown depends on the quality of the material used for making it. We now have beautiful ceramic materials to choose from that will deliver very long lasting results because of their excellent durability.

When the pulp inside of your tooth is injured or infected, root canals can help save the tooth. The pulp can die due to a cracked tooth, a deep cavity, problems with large fillings, or serious injury to the tooth.

With full dentures, a flesh-colored acrylic base fits over your gums. The base of the upper denture covers the palate (the roof of your mouth), while that of the lower denture is shaped like a horseshoe to accommodate your tongue.

A partial denture rests on a metal or resin framework that attaches to your natural teeth. Sometimes crowns are placed on some of your natural teeth and serve as anchors for the denture. Partial dentures offer a removable alternative to bridges.

Beware! This place doesn't like to take insurance and will try to get you to pay out of pocket for their services. This business is In-Network for my insurance. When I made the appointment they said they accepted my insurance, when I arrived, they stated they did not take my insurance and stated I had the lowest insurance available. (unnecessary rude comment) After I called my insurance, they stated this business is in my network and should cover 80% along with my two free cleanings a year. I called Black Canyon back to clarify and the front desk said they were unfamiliar with their insurance policy and would call me back.. Still no call back.. Save your time and money and go elsewhere. Going to the dentist is high stress as is.. training the front desk on quality Customer Service and insurance policies they accept should be a top priority.

There used to be a really great office person, Shannon, at the desk. Going to the dentist is one of the most anxiety inducing things I've ever experienced. Shannon was so professional on the phone, and so competent at the insurance stuff, that she always put me at ease. Yesterday one of my crowns popped off while I was flossing. I called last night and they called me back this morning. I went in, handed over my new insurance card, and asked the woman there where Shannon was. She reacted strangely. She said that Shannon just doesn't work there any more. She sounded angry about it. I was surprised. I just said that Shannon always made me feel at ease, and I was sad that she's gone. She said that Shannon didn't do the care and why would it matter if she's not in the office? The whole conversation was bizarre. I wasn't angry. I was just sad, like "bummer" you know? This woman's reaction was just over the top weird. It didn't inspire confidence or friendliness or anything that made me want to stay there. So I told her I was leaving, and she repeated "She didn't do care." I'm aware that Shannon didn't do procedures, but she dang sure did care. She cared for me, she cared for my dad, and she cared for my daughters too. I don't know why she left Black Canyon Dental, but I do know the practice and every patient is going to suffer because of her absence. I won't be going back. Life is too short to live in that receptionist/office lady's anger. I already have another appointment with a different dentist. Hopefully they'll be able to put crowns on my teeth that actually stay put too. This is the third crown I've lost that this office has put in my mouth. I'm not sure why they don't stay in very long. It's quite frustrating. Considering the sub-par care, and a very cranky woman in the office? Nope. I'm out.

Black Canyon Dental is the best dental office I've ever been to! Shannone up front is so nice and accommodating. They tell you everything up front and work with you. I recently had all 4 wisdom teeth removed and I was very anxious. I want to give a special shout out to Jena who put me at ease and was so sweet comforting me. Dr Reardon and his team did excellent work. I've had minimal pain afterwards. Overall a professional and organized office.
