Dr. Todd Bivins was born in Richmond, Virginia where he spent the first 25 years of his life. He is married to Jennifer Payne Bivins and they have three children: John Harrison Bivins, 'Jack', who was born in 1999; Alexandra 'Alex' Payne Bivins born in 2001 and Lily Taylor Bivins born in 2004. The Bivins family lives in Suffolk.
Dr. Bivins is a 1988 graduate of Highland Springs High School in Highland Springs, Virginia. From 1988-1991, he attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where he majored in biology and earned early acceptance into dental school. From 1991-1995, Dr. Bivins attended the Medical College of Virginia, School of Dentistry, where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree with honors. Dr. Bivins continued his specialty training in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Detroit Mercy (1995-1997), where he received his certificate as an orthodontic specialist as well as a Masters degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.
Dr. Bivins is a helicopter pilot, and also an accomplished artist whose work has won several awards. Specializing in a technique known as photorealism, Dr. Bivins art has been displayed in museums, including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
Dr. Bivins is a member of the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association and has been on the Executive Committee of the Tidewater Dental Association since 1997. Dr. Bivins was the 2004-2005 president of the Tidewater Dental Association and has done extensive work on the state and national levels through his interest with the ADA's Committee on the New Dentist, where he served as the State Chairman. Dr. Bivins is a member of the Seaboard Dental Study Club and the Portsmouth-Suffolk Dental Study Club. He frequently attends Virginia Beach Dental Study Club meetings. He also holds memberships with the American Association of Orthodontists, the Virginia Association of Orthodontists, the Tidewater Association of Orthodontists and the World Federation of Orthodontists. Dr. Bivins is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
In selecting an orthodontist, Dr. Bivins encourages you to inquire about AAO membership as this is an excellent way to determine the training of an orthodontist. AAO members are uniquely qualified to correct all orthodontic issues. The American Dental Association requires that orthodontists have at least two years of advanced specialty training to be a member of the AAO.
Judy is the Office Manager at Bivins Orthodontics. She has worked with Bivins Orthodontics for over 21 years. She grew up in the Tidewater Area and currently resides in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake with her husband Chris, son Caleb and her three dogs. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, going to the beach, trying new restaurants and walking her dogs.
Susie has been an Orthodontic Assistant since 1986. She is the New Patient Coordinator for Bivins Orthodontics. She enjoys working with children and in her free time coaches a children's bowling team. She resides in Suffolk with her husband, Bobby, and their two children, Gabrielle and Evan.
Kim joined Bivins Orthodontics in December of 2008. In her spare time, she enjoys learning how to cook, shopping, hanging out with family and friends, and cheering for her favorite football team, the New England Patriots.
Darlene joined Bivins Orthodontics in January 2010. She has been in the dental/orthodontic field since 1991. Darlene lives in Chesapeake with her husband Lin, and her two sons, Chase and Alex. In her spare time she enjoys camping and gardening.
Amy is married and has a son and daughter. She resides in Smithfield with her husband and son. In her spare time, she enjoys crafts, gardening, going to terrarium plant bars and hanging out with her family and friends.
