Dr. Thomas A. Bissell earned his Doctor of Medical Sciences Degree at Harvard Medical School, and earned his Postdoctoral Certificate of Periodontology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. While at Harvard, Dr. Bissell was awarded the James H. Shaw Award for excellence in biomedical research. He also served on the faculty at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine as a clinical instructor in Periodontology. Before attending Harvard, Dr. Bissell earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, where he completed an Honors Periodontics program and earned admission into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Dental Honor Society. Dr. Bissell was also the first Hines Scholar at the Forsyth Dental Research Center. Dr. Bissell, a Long Island native, enjoys golf when he is not spending time with his wife, two sons, and daughter.
Currently, Dr. Bissell is the Clinical Assistant Professor for the Department of Periodontics at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He instructs third and fourth year dental students and regularly lectures to the Rutgers second year students on a multitude of topics, such as Soft Tissue Grafting.
Dr. Bissell completed the requirements for Board Certification by The American Board of Periodontology, joining a very small percentage of periodontists who have achieved this rigorous educational and practical feat. As a Board Certified Diplomate, Dr. Bissell continues his pursuit to provide the highest quality, most advanced dental care to his patients.
Dr. Bissell completed the extensive educational requirements, which include comprehensive written and oral examinations covering all phases of periodontal disease and treatment, as well as preparing and delivering in-depth presentations regarding actual treatment provided to patients. In addition, he must recertify every three years by completing mandatory continuing education credits and self-study.
Dr. Bissells hard-earned membership in this distinguished group highlights his dedication to his chosen field. His significant achievements above and beyond basic requirements assures that his patients receive only the highest-quality, cutting edge care by a knowledgeable, experienced professional who is well-versed in the latest advances in dentistry. As a Diplomate, Dr. Bissell intends to live up to his accomplishment by providing his patients with the best care possible.
Dr. Thomas A. Bissell, a leading periodontist in Chester, NJ, offers a unique and specialized approach to periodontal disease. As a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, Dr. Bissell has additional training and experience in identifying and treating periodontal disease a skill he brings with him to each patients unique situation. Dr. Bissell offers a variety of advanced periodontal treatments including the LANAP Laser Treatment, dental implants, gum grafting, tooth extraction, socket preservation, osseous surgery, scaling and root planing and sedation options.
Kathy is our Treatment Coordinator and has been in the dental field for over twenty years. Kathy not only has extensive knowledge in the administrative aspect of our practice but had worked as a registered dental assistant for many years. Kathy can expertly assist you in utilizing your insurance benefit and health savings account to its maximum.
Yvonne has been in the dental field for over twenty two years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Philadelphia University. Yvonne then went on to obtain a hygiene degree from Northampton Community College. Yvonne has been a hygienist with Dr. Bissell for over thirteen years. She prides herself in her extensive knowledge in dental hygiene, especially in the periodontal field. With Yvonnes outgoing, friendly and warm personality, she makes our patients look forward to their visits.

Dr. Bissell and staff have been so good to me these past 6 months. After having multiple procedures with another periodontist, nothing seemed to be working and my oral health was deteriorating rapidly. I was told that like someone with diabetes, this was my burden to bear and I had to just do my best, make more frequent visits, and hope that things would improve. After hearing this news I was so disheartened. Yet, I fasted and prayed, then God revealed to me that I needed to see someone else. Thankfully, there was someone (very) close by that could get to the root of the problem and heal me. By using various techniques (LANAP, GTR, Bone grafting, etc.), all my teeth were saved! I used to build up so much plaque and tartar because nobody could get far enough under my gumline to remove all the bacteria present and I needed surgery. I was comforted that unlike others, Dr. Bissell explained everything to me in depth. I knew he was telling the truth because although it was hard to hear, I needed to know the dire nature of my problem so I could take the immediate action I desperately needed. My teeth are so much healthier now and still improving! Thank you so much Dr. Bissell. I praise Jesus for directing me to him and the integrity of the Dr's work. God Bless you all!

I would recommend Dr. Bissell to anyone who has had a complicated dental history and in need of dental implants. More importantly he made a follow up call after each visit to check on my healing progress. Love my new smile!

Such a great experience! Dr. Bissell and his staff were so amazing, caring, and helpful. I had to get a gum graft on the bottom front teeth and I am so pleased how everything turned out. After the procedure I was in a lot less pain than I had expected to be in. My teeth are no longer in pain due to the root being exposed prior to the procedure. I am just so happy to no longer be in pain!
