While our clinic is modern in every way, it doesnt have the stark ambience commonly associated with dental offices. Instead, we have built our office to be a warm, welcoming environment so patients are at ease upon entering. Dr. Matian is a fully accredited metal-free dentist in Encino, California. He is a native of the San Fernando Valley, having lived in the area since the age of two. He grew up in a dental family, with both his father and uncle practicing dentistry. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 2000, Dr. Matian decided to pursue further education by following his fathers footsteps in dentistry, which he considered to be the perfect blend of science and art. After a brief application process, Dr. Matian got accepted to the Ostrow School of Dentistry at USC.
Once his study was underway, Dr. Matian was immediately attracted to emerging dental technologies, including metal-free dentistry, CAD/CAM technologies and dental implants. USC was on the forefront of dental education, including biomimetic dentistry, which reconstructs teeth in a way to mimic their natural aesthetic form and function.During this time, Dr. Matian worked under some of the most respected dentists in the world to develop his clinical skills. He found a particular enjoyment in the creativity and artistic qualities of cosmetic dentistry. He excelled in his studies, becoming one of the few students to perform cosmetic dentistry and implant dentistry as an undergraduate.
Following his graduation, Dr. Matian began working as an associate dentist with a high profile holistic dentist. It was during this time that Dr. Matian developed a love and understanding for biocompatible dentistry. Dr. Matian created BioDental in 2009 while continuing his work as an associate. He began by seeing his own patients one day per week. In 2013, he decided to dedicate his full schedule to developing BioDental, officially opening his practice in a private, state-of-the-art facility. Since the inception of BioDental, its top priority is to provide personalized, high quality, metal-free dental care.Dr. Matian currently resides in Tarzana, California. When not practicing dentistry, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 kids, reading about technology and science, working out, and traveling.

I was Blessed to find Shawn Matian and his wonderful staff back in 2017. Being in the entertainment business, I need my smile to be on point when I take the stage... Back in 2017 we put a plan together, and we followed that plan to the finish line... I now live in another city...But it's more than worth to 2 hour+ drive to get to Bio Dental every 3 or 4 months to get a great cleaning and to keep Shawn's great work looking good... I can say with the highest level of confidence..."If there's a better dentist than Shawn... They're not on this planet." Shawn Matian and the staff at Bio Dental are clearly the best...GT says...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

After going to almost every dentist in the area / I finally found a great dentist! The office is clean, the staff are very polite, but the dentistry is excellent. The office has state of the art equipment- and they don't charge an arm and a leg for their excellent and talented care. I went in and left within a few hours with 2 new perfectly fitting crowns! They make the porcelain crowns right in their office / by using your 3D tooth image and dimensions to perfectly make the crowns ..... right in front of you. They expertly do not over numb you - and have a knowledgeable hygienist on the premises who cleans your teeth before crowns are placed in your mouth. I highly recommend them for your dental needs.

Shawn uses composite fillings that are comprised 30% of a Lead containing material. Enjoy locking Lead in your teeth, 4 inches from your brain, where its worn away and released into your body in vapor form or swallowed. Don't believe me? This photo is directly from the safety sheet from Spectra by Dentsply composite filling - the filling Shawn uses most. And the filling he put 7 of in my teeth. Oh, and they're loaded with BPA too! California just banned BPA - Shawn missed the memo though.

Shawn and the team are wonderful. No one likes the dentist but everyone would like these. Very gentle and easy to work with. I would recommend 10/10.

This place is simply the best. Best dentist, best hygienist, best staff. I never enjoyed cleanings before but now they are a pleasant experience. They have the best technology so crowns are printed onsite and are measured with impressive accuracy. I just can't say enough good about Biodental.

I was nervous at first, going to the dentist is never fun for me. I had such a terrible toothache so I had no choice. The dental care I received was by far the best ever. The staff was very attentive. The Dentist was so wonderful and helped make this root canal a quick and as pain free as possible. I have no more tooth ache which has made my life so much better. Wish I could give more stars! Such great care was given to me. This will definitely be the only dentist I will continue going to. :)

I praise Dr. Marian for his honesty and humbleness. Dr. Matian was very kind and nice to my son. Though many other Doctors insisted to place a space maintainer for my son which I disagreed with, Dr. Matian advised that it was unnecessary. This kind of act almost doesn't exist in our days in that field. Most of the doctors are concerned with profit rather than the well being of the patients. Thank you Doctor Matian for your honesty and kindness! I will definitely return to your office for my entire family.
