A West Virginia native, Dr. William J. (Bill) Claiborne completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at Wake Forest University. He then earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by a Clinical Certificate and a Master of Science in Periodontology, also at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Additionally, Dr. Claiborne is a graduate of the Misch International Institute, one of the most renowned dental implant training institutes in the world. He stays current in the latest techniques and procedures of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry through ongoing educational courses as well as involvement in professional study groups.
He is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, International Congress of Oral Implantologists, American Dental Association, Southern Academy of Periodontology (having served on its Executive Council), North Carolina Society of Periodontics, North Carolina Dental Society and the Buncombe County Dental Society (having held several offices, including that of President).
In addition to his exceptional skills in treating periodontal disease of all stages, Dr. Claiborne provides the services of dental implant placement, cosmetic periodontal enhancement (including functional and esthetic crown lengthening), periodontal surgery, gum and bone grafting and oral biopsies.

LANAP PROTOCOL USING PERIOLASE MVP-7 An acronym for Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure, LANAP provides an advanced protocol to more efficiently and effectively treat periodontitis (advanced gum disease) with the PerioLase MVP-7 laser. This offers a minimally invasive (non-surgical) treatment alternative for patients with moderate to severe periodontal disease. LANAP treatment leaves very little discomfort and has a quick recovery time. It has also been found to stimulate bone regrowth in damaged areas.

Dr. Stone received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in 1979 and his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio (University of Toledo) in 1982. He completed residency in anesthesia at the University of Florida in 1985, where he received advanced training in pediatric anesthesia. He was initially certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in 1987 and has twice recertified. He was certified in pediatric anesthesiology in 2015.
Dr. Stone has been a ambulatory surgery center director for over 16 years with extensive experience in anesthesia for dental procedures and in the care of children. Since 2003, he has been involved in dental office anesthesia and served as the director of anesthesia education for the MAHEC dental general practice residency.
Dr. Howerton received a DDS degree from West Virginia University School of Dentistry in 1985. He completed a certificate of Endodontics from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1987 and practiced surgical and nonsurgical endodontics in Asheville, North Carolina.
In 1999, Dr. Howerton entered the UNC Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology graduate program and completed a Master of Science in 2001. As of December 2003, Dr. Howerton became a Diplomate of the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology.
In 2004, Dr. Howerton began private practice in oral and maxillofacial radiology in Raleigh, with Cone Beam Computer Tomography imaging as a key feature. Since then, six additional Cone Beam Computer Tomography imaging satellite centers have been created throughout North Carolina.
Additionally, Dr. Howerton is a key opinion leader for Imaging Sciences iCAT and Dentsply SimPlant, giving presentations throughout the country regarding Cone Beam Computer Tomography and Computer Guided Dental Implant Software.
I am a hygienist at Biltmore Periodontics. I graduated from Fayetteville Community College in 1998. I moved to the beautiful mountain of Old Fort with my husband and our three children in 2007. I have been with the team since 2008. Im a proud Army mom to my son, my two girls biggest fans in sports and music. I also am a proud Nana of my grandson!
I have been on Dr. Claibornes team for over 12 years. Im a WNC native where I attended Enka after graduating I attended Mars Hill Collage. I received my assisting certification from Wake Forest Baptist Health and advanced surgical certification from UNC. Outside the office, my husband and I enjoy camping and traveling with our two daughters as well as ACC football (GO DEACS)! Im excited to help you get started here at Biltmore Periodontics.
Im a Dental Assistant here at Biltmore Periodontics. I am married to my wonderful husband with whom I have two sweet daughters. Im an Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College graduate with an Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene. My hobbies include reading, exercise, singing, attending church, and of course, being a wife and mother. I love my career and enjoy meeting new people every day!
I am an Asheville native and graduated from Enka High School in 2005. I live in Candler with my husband Robbie and two children, Emaleigh and Jackson. I love spending time with my kids, going to the beach, and being on our family farm. We are blessed with a large extended family who all live close by!
