Dr. Sujata Bhatia has been practicing Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics since 2000. Her Maui journey began in 2006 when she founded Kihei Orthodontics and Lahaina Orthodontics. In March of 2017, she relocated her orthodontic office to Wailuku to be more centrally located for all Maui residents.
Dr. Bhatias journey to become an Orthodontist began as a shy teenager with crooked teeth. Too afraid to smile, she hid in the shadows and worked hard to try to disappear until her mother finally took her to an Orthodontist. As her teeth got straighter, her confidence grew and her world began to open up. Recognizing the change that orthodontics was effecting in her life, Dr. Bhatia told her Orthodontist Someday I will be like you!
Dr. Bhatias earned her Dental degree at UNMC in Lincoln ,Nebraska She has dual specialty degrees in Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics from Louisiana State University In New Orleans.
Dr. Bhatia has a passion for the role of Preventive Orthodontics and her dual specialty degrees well equip her to help those children that could benefit from an orthopedic intervention before a corrective orthodontic phase.
In recent times a strong co-relation has been established between poor bites and Sleep Disorders. This prompted Dr. Bhatia to educate herself more in Sleep medicine and she is now certified in Dental Sleep medicine. Dr. Bhatia has created a unique platform to help change lives by not only creating new smiles but also effect lifelong change through early and comprehensive airway focused Orthodontic treatment.
Dr. Bhatia has also worked diligently to perfect her skills with the Invisalign modality. This has earned her the coveted Invisalign Elite Provider, awarded to only 1% of the orthodontists in the nation.

Passionate about orthodontics and its ability to transform smiles, Dr. Bhatia is the only dual trained specialist in Hawaii. Her dual training in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics AND Pediatric & Preventive Dentistry makes her uniquely qualified to benefit the Keiki of Maui by diagnosing and intercepting teeth and bite malalignment issues that may become more problematic as growth progresses.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child see an orthodontist by age 7, and perhaps earlier if a an orthodontic concern is identified. Around age 7, the first adult molars typically erupt, helping to define a patients back bite and allowing the orthodontist to more effectively evaluate the correctness of the developing bite. Treatment at this age may not be necessary, but orthodontic monitoring can help anticipate the ideal timeline for the most effective treatment and also help to prevent more serious problems in the future.

We relocated to Maui. This orthodontist office took over treatment for our daughter. They are wonderfully kind, caring, and smart with their knowledge. I could not be more thrilled with their care! Also, during covid they've taken amazing safety precautions- very important!

Just put on my Brius Braces with Bhatia Orthodontics. They are so awesom!! They are the friendliest, most positive & helpful staff. Go check them out. I especially love the "Gishy Goo". It saves my tongue from scraping on the brackets and helps me talk clearer.

10 months into my journey and i couldnt be happier. Dr. Bhatia has explained to me how my teeth take a toll on all my body and with each visit explains what she is doing. Never feel rushed and love going eachtime the girls are awsome. She took her time to really explain to me how all my issues can be related to my teeth and I've seen such an improvement each time. I finally can sleep with my mouth closed and breathe with my nose and not waking up with headaches becasue clenching my jaw has been going away. And my daughter she has done such an amazing job with her expander with others they wanted to pull perfectly healthy teeth. Dr. Bhatia really explained the importance of not doing that and how her face structure would change if we did go that route. But she has done such an amazing job we fixed the issue others couldnt do! Thank you we truly appreciate your work!

Today we had a consultation appointment with Dr. Bhatia at Bahtia Orthodontics to determine if my daughter would be a candidate for braces. We were greeted by the front office staff Patricia and Raina with their welcoming and aloha spirit and immediately felt comfortable. Surprisingly, after my daughter's consultation we were given the opportunity to have braces installed on the same day. Patricia assisted in educating me on the various payment plans they offered and in less than 5 minutes we had paper work signed and done! Patricia took all the stress from this process and within 45 minutes later my daughter had her braces fully installed. I can't tell you enough how happy we are by the care and service we received by Dr. Bhatia and her amazing staff! We look forward to her next appointment and would recommend Bhatia Orthopedics to anyone who needs orthopedic work! Thank you again Dr. Bhatia, Patricia, and Raina!

I tried smile direct club for the first year & my tmd/tmj worsened, which affected my sleep & started to cause tension headaches. I decided to see Dr. Bhatia & was on a 8-10month treatment of Invisalign. Not only has my teeth straightened better, but my bite is also better, decreasing the painful tmd I had previously experienced. Thank you Dr. Bhatia for my new smile!

It has been an absolute blessing getting treated by Dr Bhatia. For 2 decades I've been suffering from what I thought was TMJ or even at times tooth ache, I had to take pain killers to get relief also it was causing me sleep disorder. I've been to a lot of dentists and oral facial pain specialist with no improvements except spending a lot of $$. The relief Started right a way with the first Invisalign. Now a a year later no more pain and my sleep is deep and restful. I can't believe the life change and energy that I enjoy now. I wished I met her 20 years ago.

My experience from a mother's point*of*view- has been a most pleasant one! My daughter started her Invisalign expander at 7 years old,.. & easily maintained it! Dr Bhatia was caring & patient and made us both feel relaxed and like everything would go smoothly. This was way easier than when I had worn a metal expander in my mouth when I was younger! This Invisalign expander was gentle & smooth in my daughter's mouth. She never complained of pain. She never found it stressful and I swear that's because of the ease of it all! I would recommend Invisalign to parents with younger children so they could just go about their daily lives & not have to get spacers in and then a metal bar in their mouth & have to maintain that (like I had to) back in the 90s. lol Invisalign is current technology that really came through for my daughter (& for me!!!, as her mom;)

Dr. Bhatia is a brilliant orthodontist! I was referred to her by another orthodontist on the island, because she is fearless in taking on challenging or difficult cases. Mine was challenging to say the least, and she absolutely worked miracles in getting my teeth ready for a massive TMJ reconstructive surgery, and then managed to straighten my teeth and correct my bite after the surgery. I just got my braces off yesterday and my bite and teeth are beautiful! I have had TMJ problems for almost 40 years and between Dr. Bhatia's expertise and the surgeon who did the surgery on the mainland I now have a new lease on life.
