Dr. Lei started his career as a scientist working on rare genetic conditions causing Autism. While working with children who suffered from genetic diseases, Dr. Lei found his passion in direct patient care. After shadowing several dentists in Miami, he decided to pursue his 2nd doctoral degree in dentistry, a decision he is proud of to this day.
Dr. Lei has an impressive track record of academic excellence, he has 8 publications in high impact scientific journals such as PNAS and EMBO. Upon graduation from University of Detroit Mercy, School of Dentistry, he was inducted in Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society which 'represent the highest ideals of ethics and scholarship' in dentistry. He continues to learn from the best dentists in the country and grow as a dentist and he is on track of getting his fellowship in academy of general dentistry which recognize 6% of the dentists in North America. While practicing evidence-based dentistry, he truly cares for his patients and put his patients best interests first.
Born in Bangkok, Thailand, Dr. Sue moved to Houston, Texas with her family as a teenager in early 2000. She began her dental career as a hygienist more than 10 years ago after graduating from the University of Texas School of Dentistry. She became a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) a few years later upon graduating from the University of Detroit Mercy. After so many years of working in the dental industry and in multiple offices in different states, Dr. Sue still looks forward to work every day. She has a strong vision about the culture of her dental office and the quality of dentistry she would like to provide. She is a firm believer of lifetime learning and is attending more than 150 hours of continuing education (more than 10 times of the state requirement) each year. She is on track of getting her fellowship in academy of general dentistry which recognize the best of best 6% dentists in the U.S. and Canada. Growing up, Dr. Sue fostered a deep love of acrylic and oil painting. Later in life, Dr. Sue found that dentistry was something like a marriage between artistic and scientific efforts: it took scientific knowledge to treat dental disease, but also an artistic eye to create a beautiful smile.

Today was my 2nd visit at Beyond Dental clinic for cleaning. Staff members and dentist were very friendly and professional with smiles. Recommend anybody who is new in this town and looking for professional and friendly dentist.

Jordan was very helpful in talking me through my insurance questions before my appointment and providing me with the expected cost before I came in which was much appreciated. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful during my appointment. The building is clean and modern with lots of windows. Also they did panoramic x-rays, which was a pleasant surprise since I dislike the sharp corners of the intraoral x-ray films. Would recommend!

This was my first time going to a dentist after moving to North Carolina and I was blown away by how wonderful the team was! From the moment I walked in, the staff was so kind and made me feel welcome. Judy is such a great hygienist and I felt like I was in great hands. Dr. Lei was great, as well! Overall, it was such a comfortable environment and I'm so happy with my choice of a new dentist here in Durham.

The entire team from day one has been absolutely amazing. To start I want to say Jordan thank you so much for your warm smile over the phone and today in person. You really make it easy for people who fear the visit. Also to Angelica who was simply amazing in explaining my treatment plan cost and financial options. I had to switch dentists & was sooo nervous about it but Beyond Dental has made my transition so smooth! Angelica got me checked in quickly even though I got off work late & was a few mins late for my appt; Ashley took me back to the exam room, listened to everything I said & helped calm my anxiety about the whole ordeal. Dr. Lei was awesome, he listened to and understood my concerns & addressed my "right now" issue while putting me at ease about my dental anxiety. I left feeling like I made the right choice about switching dentists & looking forward to my next appointment. Thanks Beyond Dental!

Absolutely love this office. Best dental group on the planet. Dr. Lei is wonderful, detail oriented, talented and compassionate. I can't say enough about Ashley- his dental hygienist. She. Is. Beyond. Awesome. Literally makes the appointments enjoyable (how is that possible!) and Jordan up front is completely amazing. I can't recommend them highly enough. Great team, great results (and also great music!) Very grateful to have found them.

I'd never recommend this dentist. They are inappropriate and unprofessional. There's no apology that can resolve my differences with this practice. Their behavior is abhorrent. I don't understand how this practice has a license.

This is a great practice if you need something simple. Cleaning, cavity, root canal, etc. However, once things become complicated and you need major work, you're better off with a real dentist with a modern education on the latest implants, technologies and understands modern practices. This is not that kind of dentist. I had the worst experience with this dentist that led me down a path of thinking they could handle my situation which was almost $20,000 of work because I had a great deal of problems. The dentist didn't even trust herself to diagnose the situation and needed her partner to come and help. That's understandable, but what's not understandable is that for literally no reason which I caused and in the middle of a painful root canal and crowns, I was fired as a patient. When I asked why, I was told "There's no foundation of trust", an answer I didn't understand at all. I was left in-pain, flabbergasted and crying not understanding what was going on. In reflection, I came to the conclusion that the doctor was really telling me "Don't trust me, I don't know how to help you and I'm too proud to admit it, your case is too complicated but I'm still going to take your money." After being charged over $1000 I am in the process to litigate with this doctor because she won't return my money and has caused so much emotional and mental distress due to her abrupt and nonsensical action of starting to do work on me, then telling me she refuses to help me left with blood and cotton-balls in my mouth and without my senses to even discuss anything due to being in so much pain. It's not ethical as a doctor to perform a painful treatment on a patient and dismiss the patient without seeing the process through. That is the type of dentist this doctor is and if your situation is too complicated for her there's no "foundation of trust" for her to simply tell you "This situation is too complicated for me to handle." Instead, she'd rather throw you out and humiliate you. I honestly hope this practice closes and this doctor loses her license. I would not love even my worst enemy to be treated by this woman. All these five star reviews you see here are from people that have relatively simple things done. They'll take your insurance, they will make you "feel" nice, but when the rubber hits the road, this practice will not help you. There are so many much better dentists in the Durham area, if you want the bargain basement one that will accept just about any insurance, you've found it! I warned you.

This was my first visit, and the service was exceptional. As a physician, I know quite well when I encounter providers that are fully committed to patient care and education. My wife will be going over to see them soon and I look forward to bringing my parents when they visit the US. If you are looking for great dental care, look no further!
