Dr. Vidya Bettagere isnt just moving her patients teeth into alignment. Shes creating a lasting, positive impact on each persons self-esteem and confidence. She enjoys getting monthly updates on patients lives and watching their journey through orthodontic care. Her favorite moment when she gets to show a patient the before and after photos. They love their new smile so much, they cant stop showing it!

Don't worry, you'll be eating popcorn and snacking on potato chips again in no time! But before you can return to enjoying some of the treats you love, you need to be sure to avoid any foods that could damage your new appliances.

When you first get your braces, you may notice your teeth and mouth feel a little tender or sore. This is perfectly normal, and we promise it wont last forever! To alleviate the pain, we recommend dissolving one teaspoon of salt in eight ounces of lukewarm water. Swish and gargle this solution in your mouth for a couple minutes and do not swallow the saltwater. If the pain worsens and remains after saltwater rinsing, you can also try taking a pain reliever. Your lips, cheeks, and tongue may also become irritated for one to two weeks as they toughen and become used to the braces. We can give you some wax to put over the braces to lessen the tenderness.

If your teeth begin feeling a little loose, don't worry; this is normal! Your braces must first loosen your teeth to move them into the right position. Once your teeth have been repositioned, they will no longer be loose.

The wires and bands on your braces may come loose. If this happens, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can check and repair your appliance. If any piece of your appliance comes off, be sure to save it and bring it to the office with you.You can temporarily repair the loose wire by using the back of a spoon or the eraser end of a pencil to carefully and gently push the wire back into place. If the loose wire is causing irritation to your lips or cheeks, put wax or a wet cotton ball over the broken wire to relieve the pain.

Damaged appliances can make your treatment process longer, so be sure to take care of all your appliances. Your teeth and jaw can only move into their correct positions if you consistently wear the rubber bands, headgear, retainer, or other appliances prescribed by your doctor.

We have great news for athletes: You can still play sports even while undergoing orthodontic treatment! If you do play sports, it's recommended that you wear a mouthguard to protect your teeth and your appliance. Let your doctor know if you need help finding the right mouthguard for the best protection. In case of a sports emergency, be sure to immediately check your mouth and appliance for damage. If you notice any loose teeth or appliance damage, please contact our office right away. You can temporarily relieve the discomfort by applying wax or rinsing your mouth with warm saltwater.

When you have braces, it's very important to brush and floss after every meal in order to keep your teeth and gums healthy throughout your orthodontic treatment. If youre unsure which products are best for your teeth and appliance, we are happy to help you choose the right toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss.

Flossing after every meal will help keep your teeth and braces clean, which will also help keep your treatment time on track. To floss with braces, use a floss threader or special orthodontic floss to thread the floss behind each wire.

After you alleviate any immediate pain or discomfort, it is very important that you still call our office as soon as possible to schedule a time for us to repair and examine the problem. Allowing your appliance to remain damaged for an extended period of time may disrupt your treatment plan.

When you first get braces, you may feel general soreness in your mouth and bite tenderness in your teeth for three to five days. Stick to a soft food diet until your teeth do not hurt when you chew. Irritated gums and other sore spots can be relieved by rinsing your mouth with a warm saltwater mouthwash:

  • If the tenderness is severe, take acetaminophen (Tylenol) or whatever medication you normally take for headache or similar pain. It is not advisable to take aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) or naproxen sodium (Aleve, Naprosyn, Anaprox) while wearing braces since they actually slow tooth movement.
  • The lips, cheeks, and tongue may become irritated for one to two weeks as they learn a new posture and become accustomed to the surface of the braces. You can put wax on the braces to lessen this. We'll show you how!

Using a pair of tweezers or needle-nosed pliers, try to put your wire back into place. It is okay to use a piece of floss to tie the wire into place: tie the floss around the bracket in place of the missing, colored O-ring. If you cannot reposition the wire comfortably, and covering the end with wax doesn't help, as a last resort you can use a small fingernail clipper to clip the wire behind the last tooth to which it is securely fastened. If the end of the wire is still sharp, place wax on it.

Sometimes discomfort is caused by not wearing the headgear as instructed by your orthodontist. Please follow our instructions. If the facebow (metal piece) is bent, please call our office for assistance. The headgear should hurt less the more you wear it, so be sure you get in the prescribed number of hours.

Staff is a 1.5 on personally calling with details for first time appointment information and logistics! They do have smiles and seem half happy to be at work. Upon arrival being a new patient I was told to have a seat and I would be called back. Is it just me, I mean I am old school!! But like what am I being called back for an exam, paperwork, prior health history what exactly?!?!? Received weird email about a trust program with a 15 day free trial, sorry not sorry... skipping that Did receive text message to confirm appointment by typing Yes... coo, hip to that Now walk through of how service went... as an unestablished patient with prior orthodontic work 1. Hi my name is .... I have an appointment 2. Okay great have a seat... will call you back 3. Begin reading my book 4. Called back within 3 minutes of arriving coo, let's go!!! 5. Follow me we will take X-rays and then have a seat in the office. (Office coo that means insurance and pricing, hip to that) 6. Pics uploaded on screen and X-rays, (no problem) 7. Dental assistant gives questionnaire to fill out regarding PMH ( past medical history) ooo with a trainee standing in the corner with a fixed grin and that "it's my first day body language" so as I'm feeling out paperwork. Without a glance I ask to the current employee, do you have a trainee? The trainee nervously spoke up and said yes, first day. Statement from me: Congratulations! I still would have like to be introduced to why it takes two of you and the awkwardness felt explained with a simple "I have a trainee, if that's okay?" Just saying like most medical professional offices do!. 8. Doctor comes in grilling with frowns and change in monotone! Like well why can I help you! Just rude. Your office, your license, your rules you set the pace, energy and so on of your practice, but now I see... Comes from not a place of love as established in spiritual principle but a place of confusion and misunderstanding!! Only people who lie think others lie!!! Thank you hit no thank you someone else can have my MONEY.... Thank you, Be blessed and keep your Eyes and Ears open fake can only fake alike. Real recognize solid hearts and the good in people! No time for spell check cause this place is not worth me rechecking grammar, it can be as incorrect as this Practice! -- Salute and Shalom

I was a patient of Dr. Alford's since I was 6 years old. My parents spent thousands of dollars on fixing my very messed up teeth and Dr. Alford was AMAZING. However, Bettagare took over for him as he retired. She is quite the opposite from my limited experience. My bottom permanent retainer has come out twice since Dr Alford retired. Dr Alford, had this retainer in the right spot and glued properly so that my teeth would not move. (This was quite the issue) Bettagare BOTH TIMES; Apparently did not even bother to look at how it was glued and put it back in INCORRECTLY! I even mentioned the first time why it was glued the way it was and she said it was fine. (I did not think much, since I do not know teeth) The second time the retainer was just glued back as well. (Again I had no idea it was not correctly placed) apparently the second time or maybe even the first it doesn't even fit my teeth, she did not even make sure it still fit and correct it to my teeth. I know all of this because I recently went to a new highly respected orthodontist, due to a different issue, and he informed me my bottom teeth are crooked. (What?!) because the retainer does not fit at all and this is the ONLY way it could have happened. I am beyond frustrated as this would never have happened with dr Alford, he even said dr Alford would not have done that. Bettagare apparently takes shortcuts and does not care about Dr Alfords original patients, again I was his patient since I was 6! I now have to pay to have my teeth fixed again, with invisaligners. I'm sure she is a great orthodontist, but I do not think she takes care of Dr alfords patients.

Dr. Bettagere's whole team has been excellent. From the first time that I took my 3 children for evaluations, everyone there treated each one as a friend would treat you. Two of my children have had braces for over two years, and the third one has had special work at this office to prepare for his braces. My oldest son had his braces removed this past week and his teeth look amazing. Dr. Bettagere did a fantastic job. We couldn't be happier with the outcome. Now we're anxious to see how my daughter's teeth look. If you're looking for an orthodontist, I greatly recommend Dr. Bettagere. She & her staff do excellent work.

Loved my dental experience at Betterage Orthodontics, had my braces on for two years and the wait was definitely worth it! During the process Betterage made sure to have my next appointments always booked (double text reminders really helped with my hectic college student schedule), didn't have any problems with the braces placed on and removed, and all of the staff are very friendly & experienced (they were able to answer any dental questions I had while there) attaching my before and after braces!

I am older and didn't have braces as a child. I ended up with a spacing issue and continual low level pain, but thought orthodontics at my age was unacceptable. I finally admitted it was necessary and I am thrilled I did. Certainly my smile looks better, but most important for me is that I no longer grind my teeth and the constant pain is gone because my teeth actually line up correctly now. Dr. Bettagere and her staff were wonderful to work with; supportive, caring and very professional. I am happy to recommend them to anyone and urge even older adults to consider the benefits of orthodontics.

I went to Bettagere as an adult who wanted to fix my smile because braces are so expensive I want to give the most accurate review possible. The ladies were always so nice there were a few here and there that I only saw once that were a little speedy and I always tended to have issues with wires and brackets when I left those visits. I overall am pretty happy with my smile. I got my braces taken off the 5th of August for my wedding the 8th of August. I wasn't sure until right before that it was going to be able to happen but I only thought the top where coming off. I never was fully explained why both ended up being able to come off. She fixed my front two teeth one of them chipped a bit at the edge within a week of being fixed which was a bit disappointing. Also I'm not sure about my bottom permanent retainer I know one part is lose I noticed on my honeymoon and have not had time to call the office to ask about it because my schedule is so weird. I get up and go to work and I'm off when they are closed. If you look close at the front teeth you can see where it chipped.
