A frequent lecturer on the future of orthodontics (and therefore world traveler), Dr. Negaar Sagafi made her way from Boston, Mass. to Bethesda, Md. in 2015. Her love affair with orthodontics started decades ago, though, when her brother got braces.
Dr. Sagafi was so fascinated by the orthodontic process that she begged her mother, a pediatric dentist, for a set of her own. While Dr. Sagafi was not blessed with braces as a child, a family friend who was an orthodontist eventually gave her the ultimate gifta headgearwhich she proudly even wore to school. (Once she had her own practice, Dr. Sagafi experimented with braces and other appliances for her own teeth. Not only does this help fulfill that childhood dream, it ensures all the products she offers are safe and right for her patients.)
For me, getting braces was amazing, but thats not true for most children, says Dr. Sagafi. While I make my office colorful and inviting, my first goal is to make sure everyone who walks through my door is met with an empathic ear. I want to discover what is best for the individualnot just for today, but for the rest of their lives.
After graduating from high school in Brookline, Mass. Dr. Sagafi attended Boston University, studying biochemistry, molecular biologyand French literature! As an undergrad, she was awarded a Howard Hughes Medical Institute undergraduate research fellowship, a prestigious prize meant to encourage the development of future medical-scientists. With a growing passion for research and innovation, Dr. Sagafi took a year to study ovarian cancer with researchers on the Harvard Medical School campus.
The pull toward orthodontics was too great, however, and after a year Dr. Sagafi enrolled again in Boston University where she completed three degrees: a doctorate from the School of Dental Medicine; a certificate of advanced education in graduate dentistry; and a two-year advanced graduate program in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.
After getting her fourth degree from Boston University in 2006, Dr. Sagafi entered private practice. She is grateful to have worked with thousands of individuals since then. My patients make me a better human being, Dr. Sagafi says, They challenge me to rise to the level of their needs. It is truly humbling, and I am grateful for their confidence.
While taking care of a full roster of patients, Dr. Sagafi also taught at the Boston University Orthodontics Department from 2009 to 2015. While she is no longer part of the faculty, Dr. Sagafi continues to lecture on the latest techniques in orthodontics at conferences and universities worldwide.
Dr. Sagafi speaks five languages, loves art, and delights in serving the diverse community that makes up Bethesda and the northern Washington, D.C. area. She resides in the area and while her favorite pastime is dinner with friends anda good documentary, she also loves a good adventure. Ask Dr. Sagafi about hiking in Machu Picchu, paragliding off the Alps, or kite surfing in the Philippines.
Life is full of excitement and opportunity, says Dr. Sagafi. I hope I bring that outlook to my practice. My mission is to give my patients a bright smile that will help them walk through life, and all its adventures, with confidence.

The staff was kind, courteous and professional. I loved Dr Sagafi! She explained my condition thoroughly, gave me my options and answered my questions patiently. She is sweet, professional and comes very highly recommended. She was honest and I felt I could trust whatever treatment plan she recommended.

Dr. Sagafi and her staff are extremely courteous and professional. Our child graduated from braces this past winter and is now wearing a retainer. He was not always cooperative and they had to frequently troubleshoot, change plans. They did a fantastic job. His teeth are looking as perfect as can be. Dr. Sagafi is very good in her job but also very patient and explains things very well. We also love their revamped downtown Bethesda location as well.

I just wanted to give a shout-out and a huge thank-you to Angela in Dr. Sagafi's practice. In addition to her professionalism, follow through, and outstanding communication skills, I truly cannot thank her enough for her assistance with my dental insurance provider, Met Life. Typically, I have found dealing with this carrier to be a frustrating, soul-sucking experience. Angela expertly handled all of the billing for me and was able to get them to reimburse me for far more than I thought was possible - and certainly more than I could have gotten by submitting anything myself. I also echo the positive comments that others have made about Dr. Sagafi and other members of her staff.

I had invisaligns with Dr. Sagafi. After several months I started to get headaches. I emailed her and asked her to call me and provide guidance. No response. I then emailed two weeks later again reiterating I had stopped wearing the invisaligns and still had headaches although they had improved somewhat and could she please call me. No response. I then called her office a week later and left a message for her to call me. No response. I then made an appointment to go see her. Her response to me: oh yes I knew you were having headaches, I told my front desk person to respond to you I didn't know you wanted to talk to me. I never received a single email from her office nor a call back. A doctor who is disconnected from communications to her office and is not responsive when the patient is having side effects or pain is not a doctor you should go to.

We probably wouldn't be able to find a better place for our daughters dental treatment. She loves Dr. Sagafi, we usually take the first appointment available in the morning and our daughter is excited the night before to go see Dr. Sagafi. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, it has been the best experience overall.

Dr. Sagafi is the best orthodontist in the DMV area and in particular has a lovely new office right in Bethesda full of wonderful staff. Bethesda Orthodontics offers multiple types of braces including newer (and better) options than just traditional braces which was a blessing having done traditional braces as a kid. I highly recommend Dr. Sagafi and her team for any orthodontic work you may need.

I saw Dr. Sagafi for a consult. She was thorough in her exam and explained the options available to me clearly and patiently. She did not criticize other work already done and spoke to me about what is realistic and worthwhile and what might not be. I left feeling confident in her knowledge, professionalism and friendly manner. She made me feel comfortable from the minute she entered the room. I would not hesitate to return to her!

Many, many Congratulations to Dr Negaar Sagafi and her team !!! Most definitely the best orthodontic experience that I have had in my 11 years of having braces (They fixed my teeth from mistakes of other orthodontist within 3 years). The staff is always so polite and professional and anything that needs explanation will be explained and how they would take procedures in reaching the final goal of having a better smile. Words are not enough to describe the experience I had. I will never forget you, I Lve you all, please NEVER change !!!

Besides having two gorgeously remodeled offices, Dr Sagafi and staff are amazing! They're very friendly, professional and get the job done. There's almost never a wait time and I've been very pleased with the results on my son. I'm now getting work done myself and so far so good!

Listen...Today 8/4/21 was a game changer! I've never met such an affable, warm, caring professional, thorough, honest, patient, loving doctor in ALL MY LIFE. I felt like I knew her a lifetime the minute she walked into the room. This woman Dr. Sagafi is amazing she set the bar higher than high. WOW... Her office is beautiful state of the art everything, her STAFF can't be touched they are all true reflection of her WONDERFUL women. I felt like a true priority! The Customer Service is unmatched, questions welcomed & answered I was educated on so much today that I didn't know. I was speechless... Everyone took their time with me no rushing of any sort, I've never encountered such awesome care before (A1)hands down 5 STARS. I look forward to restarting my braces and my new journey with Dr. Sagafi being my new Orthodontist. She's so awesome she has a patient that moved from Bethesda to Sweden with her family, she fly back to Bethesda for her & her son Ortho appointments. She refused to find another doctor I REST MY CASE this woman is a gem a rare find I'm stoked to have found her. My Orthodontist is better than yours let's debate. I simply love her!!
