This dentist recommended 9 fillings. Luckily I went to two other dentists for second opinions and both only recommended 1 filling. Shocking! I'm so relieved I went for second opinions!

Avoid unless you want to get severely over charged.

Update: I immediately heard back from Berkeley Dental Center after posting the below review, and finally got a detailed accounting of my situation. They say they are sending me a refund check for about $250. (The discrepancy between what I think I'm owed and what they think I'm owed is apparently due to services I paid for that weren't ever submitted to insurance, because insurance doesn't cover them. This was not well explained in advance.) I've been waiting for a refund for six months. I've spent hours looking at paperwork and making calls. I'm glad they finally have acknowledged that I'm due a refund, and I look forward to receiving the check. Original review: Berkeley Dental Center overcharged me for dental work by $750 and refuses to refund my money, despite months of repeated calls, questions, and clear records from my insurance company showing the difference and overpayment. My story is the same as a lot of other 1-star commenters here: I was given an estimate for dental work in January 2022, and told it was based on what they expected my insurance would pay. Of course, they charged me the full amount up front, when the work was done. Fine. But then it turned out my insurance lowered the cost of the work, and paid a larger share than the office estimated. The difference amounted to more than $750. I've been calling the staff here for months, trying to get refunded, trying to get an explanation. If they even answer my calls, I'm always told the same thing -- to call back next week. I will not be giving Berkeley Dental Center any more of my money, and I recommend you don't give them any of yours.

Great staff, friendly and professional. However, this is my 3rd visit and I was advised to get a crown, but I need to pay a 450.00 warranty fee?? Lol what is that? A scam.

I am a Danish researcher visiting Berkeley for 2 month. Over the past week i developed some severe tooth ache. The Berkeley Dental Clinic took me in on the same day of my call and gave me a highly professionel treatment. They were kind, on schedule and took out time to explain me my options. I had a very, very positive experince.

I was 300 miles away from home and was hit with a massive toothache. On short notice Berkeley Dental Center was able to fit me into to their schedule.

I'm not someone who normally gives bad reviews, but this time I really need to. I went here because I had a cracked crown, and I knew it needed to be fixed. They looked at it, took an X-ray, and gave me an estimate. They recommended a gold filling rather than the ceramic one I'd had (that had cracked after 6 years), but said there would be a $450 surcharge not payable by insurance for the "difference in material costs." I ran the estimate past my reliable dentist in Tucson (this happened while I was traveling), and she told me the insurance actually covers the difference in cost. She looked at the bill and said they were overcharging on all the other insurance-covered services, as well. "They're ripping you off; don't do it," she said. I eventually got the crown replaced at a different dentist -- whom I would definitely recommend. And then Berkeley Dental billed me 165 dollars just for the initial consultation -- in which they discovered that I did indeed have a cracked crown, as I told them when I walked in the door. They were friendly and nice enough, but if you don't want to be overbilled, I'd suggest you look elsewhere.

Tenneal took care of my cleaning and did an excellent job! The administrative staff made sure to check ahead of time to make sure I was all set with my insurance. All around good experience.

I was glad BDC could fit me in on short notice, but I was disappointed by their approach. From the get-go the office manager was pushing me to buy their dental insurance. Later a dentist there gave me the options to deal with my issue, a toothache, but I still felt uneasy, as she was saying that I needed a crown and maybe root canal for my angry molar. Then the manager came and gave me the hard sell: $2,800 for the crown and maybe $2,700 for a root canal, and "I highly recommend our insurance. Now what do you want to do TODAY?" I felt pressured to pay their high prices and left. Applying epsom salts to the affected area entirely cleared up my pain in a couple days. I found this place to be a chop shop, but, hey, that's me...

Had a good experience this last appointment. Dr. Hall explained what she was doing and was efficient even when her 2 assistants were not able to assist because my appointment ran into the office lunchtime, and she had to do 80% of the appointment on her own.

I am glad to choose this office. Every stuff are friendly and nice. After examination and X-Rays, Dr. Hall gave me a comprehensive assessment and what options I have. So I was able to make a decision quickly. Dr.Hall performed the root canal right away. She was very kind and I was comfortable even during root canal procedure. No pain. I really liked being there because there were no waiting, no string and idling. Every stuff came to attend me one after another. Very efficient working environment. Things were moving forward there. It was very productive day for me. Thank you. Azusa

Something is very off with this dental office. The old warm, efficient, and reasonable office vibe has gone. When I booked my appointment, I asked how long my appointment would take. The answer was about 1 hour and a half which sounds very reasonable. However, my visit started with a 30 minutes wait at the front desk, and eventually got out of the door after three hours. I was exhausted, and even worse, I was charged $18 for parking even with the parking validation because of the unusually long visit. The worst part is the last 20+ minutes (~15 min waiting + ~5 min talking) that I had to spend with the billing/frontdesk lady (not Eva, Eva was wonderful and I wish she was there). To prepare for my next visit, Dr Hall asked the lady to get me an estimate for a crown. I was surprised by the $900+ out of pocket cost after insurance, so I went over the itemized charges with that lady. The big chuck of charge was the $450 lab fee for making the crown, and the explanations were "no insurance cover that" and "just sign it - It just means I have presented you the estimate." I told her, I had two crowns from this office before, and I didn't think I was ever charged for a lab fee. She refused to look up how my previous crowns were billed. Lastly, I asked her if I can take the estimate, and maybe I can call my insurance to work out the lab fee. She refused again, saying "if you don't sign it, you cannot take it". I don't know what annoyed the person so much, and what's wrong with this office. The friendly atmosphere and conversations such as "take the estimate, think about it, and give me a call if you have any questions" have disappeared from this office. Dr Hall was great, Lupie was wonderful as always, and my x-ray tech (sorry I forgot your name) was nice. They deserve five stars. The three stars review here is for the overall experience.
