Dr. Anthony F. Benassi, was born and raised in the Rockford, Illinois community. He grew up on the west side of Rockford and attended Auburn High School where he enrolled in the first honors academy class. Due to his scholastic achievements, he was able to graduate at the end of his junior year.
Dr. Benassi went on to attend a two-year medical program at Rock Valley College. where he earned an associates degree in Respiratory Therapy. After practicing Respiratory Therapy for five years, Dr. Benassi felt compelled to answer another calling in life; dentistry. Dr. Benassi received his Doctorate of Dental Science when he graduated from the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry in 1991. He and his wife Kathi moved to Lancaster, Wisconsin after graduating so Dr. Benassi could work as an associate at a small practice there. After a two-year period, the couple became homesick and moved back to Rockford with the goal to establish his practice here.
Dr. Benassi took over the 35-year old practice of Dr. Leo Sabien at Fairview Plaza. He practiced at this location for 19 years and moved to an expanded space on Perryville Rd. in 2013 where the practice continues to grow along with him and his daughter, now associate dentist, Dr. Isabella Newcomer. Together, they continue to build a respected reputation through hard work, innovation, and patient loyalty. Dr. Benassi and his entire staff work hard every day to make patients comfortable while attending to their individual dental needs. Throughout these 30+ years, he has updated the practice with new innovative technologies to stay current and up to date in the dental field and to be able to provide more services to patients while enhancing their comfort.
In 2006, Dr. Benassi opened a second location in Winnebago, IL to serve the small community in which he lives. As he and his wife, Kathi, raised their four children in Winnebago and became familiar with the residents there, it seemed like a logical fit for a new practice. Being involved in school, church, and community activities has allowed Dr. Benassi and his wife to become an integral part of Winnebago, IL. The locals have supported Dr. Benassis practice with great confidence and numerous referrals.
Dr. Benassi enjoys learning about new dental technologies and techniques, working alongside his daughter, and spending time playing with his grandchildren while helping them learn and discover new stuff!

I just had two wisdom teeth removed and have previously gotten one extracted as well. Dr. Benassi made the procedure as pain free as he possibly could. Aside from a little bit of soreness in my jaw (to be expected), I have no pain and this is the day after my extractions! Hands down the best and most kind dentist I have ever been to. All staff are very professional and make you feel at ease. Highly recommend if you need your wisdom teeth removed or any other dental work done***

Always very kind and thorough with exams. Me and my kids love hanging out with Flossy the loving therapy dog. Last time I had fillings, I was shocked that I didn't need to be numbed, as he was able to do them with laser. I was worried, but he ensured me that at anytime I needed it, we could still use it. Not only painless, but very quick. I highly recommend them and I honestly have never been a fan of going to the dentist.

Really great staff all around - the receptionist, dental hygienist, and the Dentist. Not to forget Flossie the dog love petting her every time I go there. Been a customer since 2014, and the place is spotless every time I go - clean and hygienic. They always address any concerns about my oral health - from simple-stupid questions to complex ones. They also ensure I have coverage before performing any services. In one instance I had gone to schedule a cleaning before the standard 6 months covered by my insurance. The staff and the dentist pointed that out to me and advised me if I could wait for 1 more month to get my regular cleaning done; just so I don't have yo pay out of pocket. So overall had nothing but good experiences with this service! 5 stars should be a no brainer

When I first came to Dr Benassi, my anxiety was the worst its ever been. Like a lot of people I had some pretty bad experiences with other dentists so I wasn't sure how I was going to even get through the door let alone have him numb me and work on my teeth. Dr Benassi and his staff were incredibly understanding, caring, thoughtful and PATIENT with me. They even turned on 90's R&B (my fav!) to help keep my mind off what was happening. I had to have a lot of work done so there was plenty of time for my anxiety to test Dr Benassi and his staff but they were AMAZING every single time! I'm finally at the last of my 'fixing' appointments, which I never thought would happen! My teeth look and feel great and they've gained a patient for life - thanks to them I have no issues going to the dentist anymore. THANK YOU DR BENASSI AND STAFF!!!

Honestly one of my first positive times being at the dentist. Dr. Newcomer and the assistants genuinely cared about how I felt during my time there and went above and beyond to calm my anxiety and make my experience a comfortable one. They helped explain all my options and were very understanding with the vast amount of questions I had about every possible thing. The procedure was quick and Dr. Newcomer was so sweet and comforting the whole time while I got a tooth extraction. They played nice music and talked with me about things I enjoyed, completely distracting me from what I would usually be terrified of. Happy to say i'll be a regular from now on.
