My path to a career in dentistry began in high school when my dentist asked me to shadow him. From the very first time I observed I knew that becoming a dentist would be my pursuit. I was enthralled by the patient-doctor interaction, caring for people, and taking their pain away.
I attended The University of the Pacific for my undergraduate work in biological sciences. I also took some writing courses, literature, history, and several art classes (photography and ceramics). I am passionate about many areas in the sciences and the arts, but dentistry continued to be my goal. Being accepted to The Arthur A. Dugoni University of the Pacific School of Dentistry was a huge goal that I accomplished and one I will be proud of always. Long live Pacific! I graduated from dental school in 2009 and that is where my professional life began.
I worked in multiple dental clinic types across the Bay Area from Santa Rosa, to San Francisco, to Redwood City. I was working closely with the Department of Public Health as I was passionate about taking care of the homeless. In the summer of 2010 I went on a dental mission to Jamaica. Many of the children and adults I treated had never seen a dentist. I cared for every person that came into my clinic and I truly felt like a village doctor. It was an amazing experience and an amazing feeling.
Right after Jamaica, I decided to go into private practice as it would enable me to give back not only to those in need, but also to my community by treating the teachers, the firemen, the tech workers, doctors, moms, dads, and children. I am passionate about being a dentist and I love what I do.
I am a general dentist which means I take care of peoples general dental needs. I see families from birth to the golden years. I work with a group of specialists in the area to provide all levels of care for my patients.
I have been a part of study clubs to better myself as a dental clinician, I continue to go to continuing education courses, I am the Vice President of the San Mateo County Dental Society, and I am a representative for San Mateo County as a California Dental Association delegate. We meet once a year to vote on proposals and laws that affect dentists in the state.
As for me personally, I have many roles. I am husband and a father of two. I am also a bicyclist and can often be seen riding my bike to work, sometimes along the banks at the velodrome, and when I have time I love to be in the hills of Woodside or racing through the mountains headed to the ocean. Another one of my passions is reading and writing. I read to my children constantly. I also read a lot myself. I love fiction short stories, but as long as its good Ill read any genre. I write for my dental society magazine and I aspire to write fiction.
I hope this paints a picture of me and motivates my existing patients to talk to me about my passions in dentistry and beyond. For the people that are looking to become a patient, I hope that this gives you insight into who I am and persuades you to make my dental office your dental home.

Who would have thought that having an extraction would be a pleasant experience? Well, it certainly was for me! Dr. Yount never left my side, the staff made me feel like I was the only one that existed. Thank you Diane, Nicole, and Leda, you were all amazing!! Thank you all so much.

I always feel like I am in the best of hands with Dr. Yount and his staff. Jan is fantastic! Thorough, meticulous and so helpful and informative in teaching me how to best care for my gums and teeth. I'm very grateful for the excellent care and services I receive here.

Dr. Yount, made himself and staff available for an emergency I had. Put in a temporary fix and had me referred over to a specialist the same day. Dr. Yount, is truly a dental professional

Greatest dentist I've ever had. The whole crew here is great. He made an acclusal guard for me that has been the best fitting and longest lasting. Highly recommend him if you're looking for a new dentist!

Everything was very professional and friendly. Started the appointment exactly on time; clean office; the dental hygenist was thorough with the cleaning and pleasant; Dr. Yount came immediately after the cleaning and did a thorough examination and was also very upbeat and friendly; and the new appointment made for 6 months down the road. Parking is easy. Could not be better.

Dr Yount is the best dentist I have ever had. Not only is he extraordinarily well trained/informed, but also he is gentle and kind. A scientist as well as an artist. Since I want my teeth to look good when I leave (I am 75), I want an artistic scientist as my dentist. He is also a lovely person. I have had a lot of dentists throughout my life and he is the best. I was given his name by one of my doctors who also uses Dr Yount. I also just learned that he also does children. Although I have not seen that, I can only imagine Dr Yount would be patient and kind and superb with children as well as adults. I recommend Dr. Yount without reservations.
