Dr. Kavanagh is highly trained in many advanced dental procedures and stays up to date through extensive continuing education. His constant focus is on better and more effective ways to help his patients, using the most current, modern equipment and techniques.
He received his D.D.S. at the University of Washington. Dr. Kavanagh is also a military veteran having served both in the United States Air Force as a medic and also as a dentist in the Navy. Additionally, he is a member of the American Dental Association, the Washington State Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Academy of General Practice Orthodontics, Mount Baker District Dental Society and the Seattle Study Club.
Dr. Kavanagh has lived in the northwest since moving out here to attend dental school at the University of Washington in 1988. He is originally from Long Island NY, so dont be surprised if he still talks about the NY Mets and the NY Jets.
Dr. Tristan Stone and the Bellingham Smiles Team are happy youre here. As a native Washingtonian, Dr. Stone is excited to provide dental care in Whatcom County and the surrounding area. He graduated from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in 2012, where he was one of two students to earn a National Health Service Corps (NHSC) scholarship. In conjunction with NHSC, he worked as a dentist at a community health clinic in rural Tennessee where he gained valuable experiences. In 2016, wishing to be back in the Pacific Northwest, he began working as an associate dentist in Anacortes and Sedro Woolley. As the owner of Bellingham Smiles, Dr. Stone looks forward to helping meet the communitys oral health needs. To ensure his patients get the best care, Dr. Stone stays connected and committed to the dental profession through his membership in the Washington Academy of General Dentistry. His commitment to excellent care is evident in his continuing education where he has logged five times the minimum hours required. This ensures he stays current with advances in dentistry so that patients receive the highest level of care.
When not at the office, Dr. Stone enjoys spending time with his wife Jessica (Associate Professor, Elementary Education at WWU) and son Caleb. As a family they enjoy exploring many of the outdoor opportunities available and are particularly fond of biking at Galbraith. They recently added a puppy (Suki) to their dog pack that also includes a yellow lab (Banner) and black lab/shepherd (Oreo). Dr. Stone looks forward to meeting you and answering any questions you may have about your dental needs.

Once again, an amazing dental experience. Everyone you deal with is super nice and caring. Dr. Stone is new to the practice, but I can already tell that he has the skills and experience to continue what I've come to expect from Bellingham Smiles, which his kind, compassionate patient-centered care. They are the best, highly recommend!

I am a Personally Unemployable Disabled Veteran due to Severe Depression, and Anxiety who has had to fight the VA every single step of the way for basic health care to the point of mental and physical exhaustion that has led to frequent chest pains. This office called me saying they could see me for an appointment. After describing some of the issues I've had with the VA, and why there was confusion the person said I could make an appointment. I said "Ok, make an appointment. I don't care if it's next week, or next month." Instead of telling me what appointments were open the response I got was "I don't need your attitude." If you are a Disabled Veteran I recommend against this office. If you suffer from any form of depression, anxiety, or trauma I would recommend against this office. The complete, and utter lack of understanding in this office leads me to believe if there was something wrong they would have tried to take advantage of me before helping me.

Had cleaning and X-rays done today. Stacy did excellent job. Seemed very thorough. Dr. Stone gave a tooth exam and seemed to do a good job, but after I left I realized he didn't do cancer exam as all my job previous dentists have, otherwise I would have gave a 5 star rating. I'll ask next time.

I went to this dentist when I first moved to Bellingham. It was to be a routine cleaning and checkup. Three hours later, I had still not had my teeth cleaned, but I had been pressured to buy expensive cleaning devices and services for TMJ, which I do not have. After refusing to buy anything, I was then told I would have to return for my cleaning. Yes, three hours and no cleaning, no checkup. Just xrays and a high pressured sales pitch. I left, found a new dentist who retrieved my xrays for me since my insurance would not pay for another set so soon. Smiles had the audacity to bill me for the part my insurance did not pay. I mailed a check along with a note about my experience there. They returned my check and cleared my account. These people are scammers in my opinion. I have never encountered such a dental clinic!

I broke a tooth and they were able to fit me in between others in order to see me that day. It was a great experience. The lady at the front desk was super kind and helpful, and my dentist and nurse went above and beyond to bring back my smile. They went over everything that would affect costs and weighed different options based on cost as well to ensure I could get the best experience personally. They even played some Netflix in front of me during my time there.

Just had a crown put in. Dr.Kavanaugh and the dental assistant did a wonderful job of fitting and placing the crown. I'm pretty new to this clinic and so far I'm quite pleased with all the staff.

The price I was quoted was outrageous. Almost 2 grand for one crown! I recommend checking out Love Dentistry instead. So glad I did.
