Dr. Marc grew up in Bellevue, Washington and received his undergraduate degree from Boston College. After a four-year stint working as a lab technician and pursuing a masters degree from the University of Washington School of Public Health, he earned his dental degree at Boston University.
Following dental school, Dr. Marc completed two years of general dentistry training. Although he enjoyed adult dentistry, he realized that pediatric patients were the highlight of his day. He went on to pursue pediatric training at the University of Washington and Seattle Childrens Hospital, and completed his pediatric residency in June 2019. Dr. Horton is a Fellow of the Royal College of Canadian Dentists and is Board Eligible as a specialist in the USA.
After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, he earned his Degree of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of Illinois at Chicago. During dental school, he was president of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry (AAPHD) and was active in many volunteer-based activities. The Indian Health Services department granted him an externship in Alaska, where he worked in Barrow and the small village of Point Lay. After graduating, he then earned a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Washington and Seattle Childrens Hospital, along with his Masters in Science of Dentistry. His thesis concentrated on social workers and children in foster care. Dr. Sawyer is Board Certified, a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
His passion in the office focuses on early dental visits (often starting at birth, if complications of tongue/lip ties occur) which lead to much lower rates of cavities for the community. Sawyer sees all of his children in the practice as his own, and vows to have them growup with healthy smiles and low dental fear or anxiety. Whenever he considers a treatment for one of his families, he asks himself, 'What would I want with my children?'

My first experience with Dr Sawyer and his team was when my youngest was 8 weeks old. He took care of his tongue tie and we had a phenomenal experience with them. Fast forward 10 months, I took my son to see him for a lip tie. Yet another fantastic experience. He has the friendliest staff and Dr Sawyer has excellent patient care with kiddos. Our family highly recommends Bellingham Pediatric Dentistry!

Dr. Sawyer and his staff are incredible! My 4 year old is a cautious kiddo who is stubborn about most things, but she cannot wait to go to back to the dentist after her visits with Dr. Sawyer. The office is calm and the hygienist walks her through each step. She loves the books while she waits and the decorations. We feel cared for and the visits are enjoyable!

Dr. Sawyer and his staff are the definition of excellence! With the current COVID--19 situation, they have done an excellent job ensuring their staff and patients are well protected! My children inherited some pretty bad genetics when it comes to teeth and Dr Sawyer has been able to effectively help both children in such a caring and fun way. They love going to the dentist! Unfortunately today was a terrible experience and so was the last time. We had to split up cavity fillings into two sessions for some reason. Today was round two and they numbed up my daughter and started drilling right away without checking if she can feel it. She was crying and in a lot of pain but they just kept going. The lady was really rude about this thing that kept popping out of her mouth like it was her fault. They did not stop or offer anything to help with the pain of the drilling. They demanded payment before we even were allowed back in the chair. Will be looking for another dentists unfortunately. It wasn't always like this.

The best dentist in Bellingham for babies and toddlers. We always have a good experience even though it may not be a toddlers favorite thing to do. Dr. Sawyer is wonderful.

Our 3 week old son was having struggles with breastfeeding from the beginning, which included me having mastitis twice already. Turns out he had a tongue & lip tie, so we were referred to Dr. Sawyer from our lactation consultants to get an evaluation. Sure enough, it was recommended that our kiddo have both his lip & tongue ties corrected. The team was wonderful, kind, and welcoming and answered all our questions. We were able to get the procedure done right then and there without having to make another appointment, which was very helpful. Dr. Sawyer has a warm personality, is incredibly friendly, and treated our son with the most loving respect and care. The procedure was quick and Dr. Sawyer showed us how to do the aftercare exercises, showed us photos of the ties and the corrections he did so we understood better, and made sure we were good to go. Once our little guy has teeth, we will 100% be taking him back here! Thank you for making a nerve wracking experience for first time parents significantly less scary/stressful!

Everyone here is so so friendly. Everyone looks you in the eye when they speak to you, they explain what they're doing and what needs to be done going forward, they treat all of the kids with compassion and patience and they follow through with correspondence and their commitments. I'm so thankful that my son is happy and comfortable there, we will be clients for a very long time.

I'm so pleased with our experiences at Bellingham Pediatric Dentistry! We have worked with both Theresa and Heather and they have made each appointment a breeze. I can't believe my little girl was so comfortable that she was laughing through her appointment. From reception to the the visit with the dentist, the atmosphere is always so warm and friendly!
