Dr. McClendon is passionate about dental health and genuinely committed to providing his patients with personalized care. He believes each patient desires and deserves a dentist who treats them as a unique individual. Dr. McClendon earned a Bachelors Degree from Brigham Young University in Economics minoring in Management prior to beginning his career in hospital administration, ultimately earning a Doctoral Degree in Dental Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences. In addition to his participation in numerous professional associations at the national, state, and local levels, he has conducted research and co-authored multiple articles which have been published in peer-reviewed journals as well as being honored with national awards and scholarships from the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, and The Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. McClendon has been honored by Colgate as an Interprofessional Scholar affiliated with the Center for Oral Health as well as having been inducted into the National Dental Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, as an Alumni Member. As a General Dentist, Dr. McClendon enjoys restoring function and esthetics to his patients and has extensive clinical experience in the provision of oral surgical procedures and treating patients of all ages who suffer from dental anxiety, having completed a one-year post-graduate internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. McClendon was born and raised in the colorful state of Colorado, and grew up appreciating natures beauty, both there as well as in the wonderful state of Washington. Dr. McClendon first moved to the Northwest in 2002 and has thought of Bellingham as home ever since. He is excited to get to know each of you in the coming days and is committed continuing the high level of care you have come to value at Bellingham Bay Dental.
Michelle loves building relationships with our patients and members of the community. She and her husband, Brian, have two lovely daughters, Marin and Drew, and a French Bull dog named Merckx. Born in California, Michelle also lived in North Carolina and Maryland, before moving to Bellingham. She graduated from Sehome High School and then attended Western Washington University, later graduating from Clark College as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Michelle and her family recently moved to a new Bellingham home that they have been renovating. She enjoys reading, as well as running and biking, and spending time with her family and friends.
Ashley graduated from Nooksack in 2011 and has been a dental assistant since 2012. She lives with her boyfriend Travis and her daughter Millie in Everson. Ashleys hobbies are spending time with her family and friends, exploring the beautiful PNW, and brewery hopping.
Kerri has worked in this office since 1998. Kerri is dedicated to providing a kind, caring and gentle dental experience for patients, especially those who are anxious or apprehensive about dentistry. Kerri, husband Jason, and sons, Jackson and Sawyer, live in Ferndale, where she was born and raised. Kerri attended Western Washington University and Whatcom Community College, before enrolling at Bellingham Technical College Dental Assisting program, graduating in 1998. Kerri enjoys camping with her family in their travel trailer, gardening, and helping out at her sons school on her days off.
Felicia has worked at Bellingham Bay Dental since December 2006the same year she graduated from the Dental Assisting Program at Bellingham Technical College. Felicia worked alongside Dr. Cathy as a Certified Dental Assistant until she transitioned to the front office as a Continuing Care Coordinator in October 2014. Her experiences in the front and back office make her a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of the practice and are a wonderful asset to the team. Felicias favorite part of working at Bellingham Bay Dental is the family-friendly value, which allows her to focus on her husband, Allen, and their three daughtersTylar, Kamryn and Casey. The Talmans live in Ferndale with their two Springer Spaniels (Penny & Sugar), their cat (Gouda) and a small flock of chickens. Felicias many outside interests include photography, camping, archery, thrifting and DIY crafts.
Stephanie is new to the dental field this year and is thrilled with the family feel of Bellingham Bay Dental. She is so happy with the support and on-the-job training she has received and already feels strong connections with her co-workers. She comes from a retail background and more recently a background in escrow support for Washington State. Stephanie was born in Everett, WA and move to Bellingham to major in Anthropology at Western Washington University. She met her husband, Owen, through a mutual friend and they were married a year later. Stephanie now has a daughter and twin boys that keep her very busy! She enjoys going to parks with her family and taking her Austrailian kelpie, Fox, for long walks. Fox likes to herd the kids when they get too rowdy. Stephanie and her husband bought a fixer-upper home in 2016 that was built in 1901. They spend summers working on projects around the home and updating the yard to bring in more plants, fruits and vegetables.
Kylee joined our team right after finishing her schooling at Shoreline Community College in 2010 with an Applied Arts and Science Degree and a Registered Dental Hygienist License. She is a great asset to our team. She has a strong passion for helping others and making a difference. Kylee enjoys creating an environment for our patients that helps them feel comfortable, pleased, and encouraged about their oral health. Prior to attending the Dental Hygiene Program, Kylee graduated from Mt. Baker High School in 2005 at the top of her class. Kylee and her husband Darrell have been married since 2010 and enjoy spending time together while raising their two beautiful daughters, Brielle and Demri. Kylees greatest passion is being an attentive mom and wife. As a family, they enjoy swimming, walking, riding bikes, camping, skiing and snowmobiling. Kylee and Darrell are very involved in their church and enjoy hosting bible study in their home.

This is a long post, but long story short, I would, and have recommended Bellingham Bay Dental to anyone who asks. Back in May, I got in a bike accident on a Sunday afternoon and chipped half of my front tooth. It looked terrible and I knew there was no way I could not get it fixed right away. After calling my primary dentist (who I had seen for 7+ years) with no answer, I called Bellingham Bay Dental. Dr. Grant answered on the first ring and first assessed to make sure that I was physically okay before talking about my tooth. Since I didn't seem to have nerve damage, we decided it would be best for me to come in the following day, so I wouldn't be charged for an emergency appointment. His staff got me in the next day on Monday morning! First of all, all of the staff was extremely friendly and kind, from the receptionist to the hygienists, to the dentists themselves. They were able to confirm that my tooth itself did not have nerve damage and he was able to fix the large chip with a filling/dental bonding to the point where no one would have known that I had cosmetic work done. Honestly, it was as though I had never chipped my tooth! He finished the work and I was on my way in under an hour! I would have made Bellingham Bay Dental my primary dentist after this amazing experience, but they did not take my insurance. That said, the entire fix was very reasonably priced. Fast forward to September, and I went to my primary dentist for a cleaning. He noticed there was a slight chip in my bonding and wanted to do a minor revision. I went in a week later to have that done. I won't go into detail, but he did a hasty job and in less than 20 minutes, I left with a botched tooth, a large gap that hadn't been there before, and had an extremely disrespectful and combative conversation with my dentist. I called Bellingham Bay Dental within 30 minutes of this negative appointment and they were able to get me in to have it fixed within the next hour! This time I had Dr. Swanson and had just as positive experience with him. He fixed my tooth, took his time and listened to my concerns throughout the process. He ended up completely redoing the filling and I couldn't be happier with the result. This is long winded for sure, but I cannot say enough great things about everyone at Bellingham Bay Dental. If you are in need of a dentist, I cannot recommend anyone more!

I can't say enough good things about Dr. McClendon and staff. I have some pretty tricky issues with my teeth and have seen numerous specialists and general dentists in whatcom county. He has been the most professional and thorough with caring and making sure that I have been well taken care of from beginning to end of my treatment.

A 14 year old crown fell into the sink yesterday morning while using my Water Pik. I called and was pleasantly surprised to hear that there was an immediate opening. Fortunately, no decay was evident and the crown was newly cemented in place; all within 2 hours. That's prompt service!

Amazing team at this dental clinic! They have all the high-tech and comfortable gadgets! Dr. Grant is kind and helpful and I got the feeling he was not rushed. He took the time to answer all my questions and walked me through the 3D digital computer photo of my teeth. They took x-rays & digital technology pictures of my mouth that pops up on the computer screen and we could see all my teeth in 3D. Dr. Grant found a tiny cavity my previous dentist missed. They also used Zoom Whitening and gave me a set of custom fitted trays for additional whitening at home. They also included a desensitizing "relief" gel that reduces tooth sensitivity. At my next dental visit my cavity will be filled with composite that will match my whitened tooth color! Dr. Grant also offers Invisalign that is custom-crafted to straighten teeth without braces. So I might try it because I feel comfortable with Dr. Grant.

I have nothing but good things to say about Bellingham bay dentistry. Dr. Grant and his team are amazing. I had Michelle as my dental hygienist she was thorough, great sense of humour, and timely. Dr. Grant and Ashley worked on giving me a beautiful vernier. I highly recommend this dentistry for your complete set of works.
