Bone grafting can be very useful in restoring natural bone growth and preventing deterioration of gums and jawbones due to various dental reasons. Bone grafting can have many purposes, but ultimately a bone grafting procedure restores and repairs bones, allowing strengthening of the area and rejuvenation that can prevent further issues in the future.
Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that that takes bones from a healthy area that is not lacking bone, transfers that bone to an area that has deterioration or reabsorption, and also promotes new bone growth and stimulation.
Bone grafting restores the functionality of the area and allows you to have an aesthetic appearance where you may otherwise experience sagging, misalignment, or deterioration. When it comes to oral care, bone grafting can strengthen the jawbone and the gum line, allowing proper strength for an area that is ready for dental implants or dentures.
There are varying types of bone grafts as well as various areas that a bone graft may be used. Where the bone is taken from could vary based on the size of bone needed and what it is needed for, as well as the quality and quantity of bone available to use.
Autogenous bone grafts are made from your own bone, taken from somewhere else in your body. The bone contains elements that enhance bone growth and is less likely to be rejected by your body since it comes directly from you.
The autogenous bone graft is often taken from your chin, jaw, hip, or skull. Unfortunately, using an autogenous bone graft requires 2 procedures a procedure to harvest the bone and a procedure to implement the graft.
Also known as an allograft, allogenic bone is a graft that is harvested from a cadaver. The allogenic bone is not able to generate new bone on its own. It is primarily used as a placeholder, filling a space while surrounding bone grows and regenerates around it.
The xenogenic bone graft comes from the bone of another species. The most common source of a xenogenic bone graft is a cow. The bones are processed at extreme temperatures to attempt to avoid rejection or contamination from the bone.
DBM is demineralized bone matrix and DFDBA is demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft. These are a compilation of allograft bone, collagen, proteins, and various growth factors that are taken from allograft bones.
Graft composites are made up of various bone graft materials and growth factors. The overall purpose of graft composites is to provide added benefits to the graft site. The compounds often include a collagen composite that resembles natural bone, DBM coerced with bone marrow cells to aid in new bone growth, or a composite containing collagen, ceramic, and autograft properties.
Dr. Adamous earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience from the University of California Los Angeles in 2002. He then attended the University of Connecticut, where he earned his Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD) degree in 2006. Afterwards, he was accepted to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program at the University of Connecticut. During his five-year residency training at the University of Connecticut, Dr. Adamous performed the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures and developed particular interest in dental implantology, dental extractions, pathology, tumor resection and reconstruction, facial trauma and corrective jaw surgery.
Dr. Adamous is a diplomate of American board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has lectured on various topics at society meetings to fellow Oral Surgery colleagues as well as taught dental and medical students via lectures and hands-on surgical anatomy courses. He has also co-authored a chapter in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Knowledge Update. Dr. Adamous is a former clinical professor of Oral Surgery at the Ohio State University.
Dr. Brittany Sonnichsen completed her Oral and Maxillofacial residency at The Ohio State University and is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. For her undergraduate education, she attended Georgetown University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She participated in the division 1 softball team for all 4 years. Dr. Sonnichsen earned her D.M.D. from the University Of Connecticut School Of Dental Medicine where she was the recipient of a number of scholarships and awards. Her interests in oral sugery are in dentalalveolar surgery, general anesthesia, implant surgery including full arch cases and bone grafting, and corrective jaw surgery.

I was referred to this location by Dr. Perez. I had a tooth that needed to be extracted by Dr.Hooman. Within just a few minutes the tooth was extracted and needed to be prepared for a dental implant. Dr.Hooman and his staff were very prompt and professional. I would definitely recommend this Bellflower location for any of your dental implants.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed here at once. I am TERRIFIED of the dentist but I had to get it done, unfortunately. Dr. Adamous and his team really helped ease my nerves. They answered my questions, even those I didn't know I had. The extraction was over before I knew it. The healing wasn't as bad as I initially feared! I had questions at home after and they answered the phone and helped me through the recovery process. I would definitely come back! I recommend coming here! I'm glad my dentist sent me here!

Dr. Adamous is a great oral surgeon. I have been a patient as well as my two children. We have been well taken care of and the doctor makes himself available for you for post op consultation at any time. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!

I visited this office several months ago because I needed a surgical procedure done on my upper jaw. The entire office staff is very nice and pleasant. They got me in very quickly for a consultation appointment and then got me an surgical appointment within less than 2 weeks. The procedure was uneventful. Afterwards Dr. Adamous even called me himself personally the night of my surgery to check up on me. 2 weeks after the surgery I had my follow up appointment and it looked like everything had gone as planned. Also, their prices are very reasonable as I looked into several other oral surgeons around the area for the same procedure. I would highly recommend this office.

Had my wisdom teeth removed here. I was extremely nervous about the procedure but they answered all of my questions and concerns, which helped me relax. The surgery was quick and painless and I recovered within a week. Overall the staff was very kind and helpful, making the place feel very calming and comfortable. I can see why my dentist referred me to this place!

Dr. Adamous and his staff at Bellflower Oral Facial Surgery did an outstanding with my extraction yesterday (08/09/2022) After the tooth removal, Dr. Adamous told me that in about two hours he was going to call me about my condition. To my surprise in the hour indicated I had a call from him. He asked me how I was doing and that if I have any questions to please call him. I have a regular doctor and he had never call me. So I appreciate the call. I was not alone. The staff was super. Ready to meet my needs and very attentive to my questions. I felt good when after the extraction Dr. Adamous said everything was going to be fine. As I was leaving Dr. Adamous' office, I had a couple of questions. He was not available though at that moment but the staff was ready, and they helped me. Thanks!!

Not only was the staff very helpful they were very kind and answered any questions I had. As well as the Dr. Who went through what the process would be like he gave me all the information I needed. The extraction was a pretty straight forward process. note that this was for a same day appointment as well.

Shady place, does not explain fees beforehand and then slaps you with them, overpriced procedures, and very unprofessional staff. This place will also disclose personal information on public websites when responding to reviews, which is a violation of HIPAA regulations. Wait for the report and complaint to the board overseeing you, and other potential repercussions.

Truly professional and kind. I got all 4 wisdom teeth removed today and feel great after rest and medication. I was worried about the procedure before my consultation but Dr. Adamous explained everything in great detail and answered all my questions with no rush. I'm glad I was referred here as my situation was a bit complicated, my bottom wisdom teeth grew in sideways which caused a crooked tooth to worsen as they shifted my teeth a bit. But it was nothing Dr. Adamous hadn't seen before and now I'm all set to get my braces!
