A graduate of Stanford University and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Bella Shen Garnett is among the few board-certified orthodontists and Angle Society members in San Francisco. She stands out among her peers-she is not only the most experienced Invisalign doctor in San Francisco, she lectures nationwide and internationally. She also actively participates in studies and research to help the Invisalign technique continue to advance. Dr. Garnett is the top Invisalign provider in San Francisco/Marin. She is also a Diamond Plus Invisalign Provider and among the Top 1% Invisalign providers in all of North America. In 2016, Dr. Shen Garnett was voted by her peers as the Invisalign Case Shoot-out Winner!
Dr. Bella Shen Garnett was born in Hong Kong andis anative of San Francisco.She attended theBurke'sSchool, San Francisco University High School, and Stanford University. She graduatedcum laudefrom the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and continued her residency there to earn a Masters in Medical Science. She lives in San Francisco with her husband Eben and theirdaughters Maisy and Lucy.
An avid philanthropist, she has done volunteer work every week for the past 25 years. While completing her program at Harvard, in 2000Dr. Shen Garnett founded Project Bridge, a dental clinic and volunteer program that provides dental care for runaway teens, which was recognized with the prestigious Community Preventive Dentistry Award 2005presented by the American Dental Association.
Dr. Kimberly Mahood was born in Seoul, South Korea, but grew up and spent most of her life in the beautiful Bluegrass State of Kentucky. She obtained her dental degree from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, where she was inducted into the dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and graduated as valedictorian.
After completing dental school, Dr. Mahood furthered her education and clinical experience by obtaining training in oral and maxillofacial surgery and advanced general dentistry. She pursued her passion for creating beautiful smiles by completing the orthodontics residency program at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. During this time, she obtained a masters degree and was awarded the Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni Excellence in Research and Scholarly Activities Award.
After completing her orthodontic residency, Dr. Mahood was appointed as a part-time faculty member at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, in the Department of Orthodontics. She finds her interaction with the orthodontic residents and dental students truly rewarding, and especially enjoys teaching in the resident clinic on Thursday afternoons.
Dr. Mahood now considers the Bay Area home with her husband Peter and their daughter Avery. They enjoy traveling together and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys reading and watching college sports in her spare time.

Can't say enough great things about Bella Smile. The staff and Dr's are so friendly! I would recommend o anyone looking for quality care and a great experience with Invisalign treatment! Edit 1/12/21: I just fully finished my ortho treatment and stand by my review from before. Everyone in the office is so friendly and professional. They took great care of me!!

Bella is the best in Bay Area! She and her team took time to treat my complex case and I'm so happy with my bite and how straight my teeth are. I also want to give a shout-out to Shalina who's always been very accommodating with scheduling.

Had a great time with my Invisalign treatment. 11/11 would do it again here. Why 11? Well it's one louder. In truth, Bella was the most affordable place for Invisalign and most capable. It was not be as cheap as places like smile direct, but I was told by a couple of their orthodontists that their trays couldn't align my teeth without additional reconstructive surgery to resize my jaw. Only orthodontists offering Invisalign said it was possible without surgery. Of the offices that said they can do the treatment, Bella was the cheapest. The staff was super friendly and willing to work with my situation. I needed surgery for a jaw related issue, and they spent the time and effort to work with my surgeon. They were patient in waiting for my jaw to heal and periodically checked on where I'm at in the healing process before beginning treatment. I really felt like they wanted the best outcome for my bite. Overall, the only complaint I have is finding parking and that's not even that bad if you're willing to walk a few blocks. They made the process easy by handling the insurance. There are TVs in front of every chair so you're not bored. I'm usually in and out of the office relatively quick.

My review of Dr Bella's practice is mixed. She is very experienced and good at what she does, but the overall patient experience is sub-optimal. My first few appointments were on time, punctual (when they were trying to sell me the package). My teeth were pretty straight to begin with and to be fair, Dr. Bella did tell me I didn't need Invisalign treatment in the first place. But I had FSA money I needed to use during covid times so decided to move forward anyways. I did 5 trays for ~$3500. After the first 2 appointments, for all of my follow up visits - I've had to wait ~30 minutes to be seen. The practice has a strict policy that if you're 10 minutes late, there will be a strict rescheduling penalty so it's ironic that patients have a long wait time to be seen with no advance notice. There have been multiple times when I've cancelled important meetings to be seen during the only "available times" and stressed to rush over to the office to be on time only to have to wait 30-45 minutes. As a patient I do not feel my time is respected. If I had been given a heads up, I wouldn't have cancelled my critical meeting and could have rescheduled the appointment. In terms of teeth results, I personally don't notice much in my before and after photos, but I only did 5 trays so pictures look fairly similar. Dr Bella also did tell me about this in advance. I'm sure my teeth are straighter now so this review is more to provide visibility into the patient experience. It's frustrating/hypocritical when we are held accountable to strict guidelines, yet the practice is able to let patients wait for extensive time and not take responsibility. It should go both ways. To the Bella Smile staff if you are reading this - if you're running 30 minutes or an hour late...that's OK! It's covid. It's crazy. We get it. But if you're running late, please at least give subsequent patients notice that they will not be seen on time. As much as we respect your time, please respect ours.

I was so satisfied with the service at the beginning but not the last part. When you finish the first treatment, they just tried to stop waisting time on you. Dr. Shen gave our older daughter a perfect smile. Our younger daughter started last year and her bite is already much improved. Dr. Shen and her staff are the very best.
