Bel Air Dental Careis a dental clinic located in the heart of Fallston, Maryland. Dr. Alan Scharf, D.D.S., founded the practice in 1985. Dr. Anthony Hamod, D.D.S joined Bel Air Dental Care in 2011, becoming a partner in 2012.
Bel Air Dental Care is proud to offer a membership plan for patients to assist with the cost of comprehensive dental treatment. The plan may be especially beneficial to patients who do not have traditional dental insurance. Most routine preventative care is covered in full under the membership, and members will also be entitled to additional discounts on most other dental services offered at Bel Air Dental Care.
Dr. Alan Scharf graduated from the University of Buffalo with Cum Laude Honors in Biology. He then went on to attend the University of Buffalo School of Dentistry, graduating with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.). He completed his post graduate residency at Baltimore City Hospital (now Johns Hopkins Hospital Bayview Medical Center) in Baltimore, Maryland. From 1982-1985, Dr. Scharf worked in a group private practice in Forest Hill, Maryland. In 1985, Dr. Alan Scharf founded his own practice, Bel Air Dental Care, in Fallston, Maryland. In 1990, Dr. Scharf received his fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Scharf is a member of the American Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association, Harford-Cecil County Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry. He has been active in the Harford County Community with involvement in the Harford Leadership Academy, local school dental education programs, and is an active speaker in various community groups. Dr. Scharf received rookie builder of the year from Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity.
Dr. Sarah Lyden grew up in Frostburg, Maryland. She attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) before obtaining her dental degree from the University of Maryland. She completed a general practice residency at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and received her fellowship with the Academy of General Dentistry in 2013.

I got a second opinion here for work recommended by another dentist (two root canals) and it was deemed non-urgent by experienced, reassuring dentists. They even took new x-rays free of charge since the ones I had sent over were hard to read. Overall great experience and care!

This was the most comprehensive evaluation I have had from a very professional dentist. Dr. Hamod was kind and gentle. He explained my future dental needs. I am now going to the hygienist at this practice. I'm 62 years old with a complicated dental history. I have found the practice that I will continue to go to and highly recommend to others. Very easy drive. Dr. Hamod was outstanding. My future care is not about them making money but the quality and the appropriate treatment that I need. Love the insurance plan, they offer. Dr Scharf and his staff could not have been nicer and the care was first rate. I was seen the same week that I made my appointment and greeted like they have known me for years. The patient room was high tech and the care personal. Dr Scharf really took time to explain the treatment.

This is my first visit to Dr Scharff. He is a very professional Dentist as well as his Assistant Diane. From the X-rays that were done Dr Scharff sat down with me and showed me his findings, was patient and willing to answer questions I had, and made a plan for me to decide the steps I want to take to improve my teeth. I am very comfortable with this Dental Group, I wish I had known about them sooner.
