Its been a few weeks since my last contact with the clinic and the outcome still upsets me and its just not sitting well with me. I am just hoping that me sharing my experience will prevent this from happening to others. About 2 months ago I took my 3 kids for a routine cleaning on 2 different DOS and not one person talked to me about cost. Before taking my oldest I received a treatment plan in my email with $0 cost to me, which is what I expected since we have insurance, and it was a preventative visit (i've never in the past paid any money for a cleaning). My son had his cleaning, I checked out and we went on our way home. About 2 weeks later I brought in my two younger kids for a routine cleaning as well, we checked in and again, no one discussed any cost with me, i did not sign a treatment plan at check in, I assumed it was a covered visit as it always had been in the past with our prior provider. During my sons x-rays i had a moment of panic and told the receptionist that my son already had x-rays done this year and i was worried i would be billed since my insurance only covered x-rays once a year. She looked up my information and indeed it hadn't been a year. She talked to Dr. Ashley and got approval to write off 2 out of 4 pictures that were taken. I was told the other two would be billed since they were not billed for in the past. This is something that should have been looked up before the visit. After my two littles were done, I stopped at checkout and i was then for the first time presented with a treatment plan to sign and i was told that i owed $331. I asked how and why, everyone was uncomfortable but all i was told is they don't contact with insurance and it that was states in the new patient paperwork i filled out. I was shocked, i handed over my card and cried the entire drive home. A few weeks later I received another bill for an additional $257. I was upset and called the clinic talked to the receptionist and explained the situation to her again. She was kind and said she would talk to Dr. Ashley and see what she could do. She got back to me the next day and said she was given permission to give me a 50% discount on that bill. So i paid another $165 over the phone. Altogether i paid $488 dollars for my little kids (8, 5, 4 year olds) to get their teeth cleaned! i would have NEVER taken them here if i was told there would be any cost at all! We are a one income military family with 4 kids. This was devastating to me and still is. This all could have been prevented if the front desk had done their job- their job is to look up insurance and present patients with treatment plans and discuss payment. Honestly to this day i don't understand how i was able to take 3 kids in to this clinic on two different days and i was not talked to about cost until checkout after my 3 kids had their teeth cleaned! in what world do you have a patient sign a treatment plan after services are done?

Update.... After multiple phone calls, the manager was able to understand the miscommunication and wave the fees. It was much appreciated and we appreciated the business understanding the failure to communicate better. After Worst place to take your child. When I called I was told they take our insurance. When we checked out after her visit they said no charge all good to go. 4 months after our daughters visit we received a bill saying it was not covered. The customer service is truly a 0 star. The receptionist gave different answers every time we called to discuss the issue. And to top it off they told us they were adding a late fee onto the bill. Please take your child elsewhere. The cleaning itself was also very judgemental on what we were not "doing well" as parents to a 2 year old as far as food...

Behind the smile dental at Amberglen is the BEST dental practice for kids! The entire staff is so friendly, welcoming and helpful. I always feel very confident that they will take great care of my little ones. My 3.5 year old twins, Chance and Kiyana, absolutely love going to the dentist and it is because of this office. Thank you so much!

We have been going to this dentist office for 7 years and have always had positive experiences. The staff is friendly and helpful. The care is thorough and my kids absolutely love the prizes! This is such a great dental office, I would for sure recommend it.

My daughter has been seeing Dr. Carolyn, Dr. Downey and Dr. Ashley for close to 10 years. During that time, she has had 2 dental emergencies (traumas), and both times the doctors and team members have shown up after hours, and even on holidays, to take speedy, compassionate, amazing care of her. The staff are always so pleasant, helpful and understanding. My daughter has an incredible idea and relationship with dentistry due to these relationships, even after her traumas, and, as such, has developed healthy dental habits and oral hygiene. We, whole heartedly, appreciate the Behind the Smile team.

Dr. Muckerheide is the best. She is very patient and calm with kids, even with the "not-so-kind" patients. I recommend her if your child has a fear of going to the dentist.

I love Dr. Carolyn. I trust everything she suggests and know the hygienists are super sweet to both my kids. We have been going the BTS for at least 5 years and highly recommend Dr. Carolyn.

My kids are always excited when they have dental appointments because they love everything about Behind the Smile. The staff is and always has been extremely friendly, patient, and helpful. They always ask the kids what they'd like to help the entire process go smoothly...from tv shows to watch during the cleaning, to which flavor fluoride they want to the variety of toys to choose from at the end of the appointment. They are great about time management and everything has always ran smoothly. I was very impressed with their new system with Covid rules. I can't recommend this dentistry enough!

We were referred here by our family dentist for a second opinion on my daughter's hypocalcified teeth, one of which had started chipping. We saw Dr. Carolyn. Because of COVID-19, I was not allowed to go into the building with my daughter. The exam was very quick since they just needed to take x-rays and do visual inspection; our regular family dentist had already done a cleaning and fluoride treatment. My daughter came out super happy and excited about the toy prize she was given. I then spoke to Dr. Carolyn at length about what was going on with her teeth and feel like she more than addressed my concerns. She explained the situation clearly and made me feel very comfortable with the plan for her hypocalcified teeth. Based on that alone, the whole experience is rated 5 stars, but it actually gets better. Dr. Carolyn then brought up my daughter's oversized tonsils and we talked about her snoring/teeth grinding issues. She gave me referrals for an orthodontist and throat specialist and helped dispel some uncertainty I had regarding when to pursue orthodontic treatment. When I asked about continued care, specifically if my daughter needed to have all her future prophylactic exams there, Dr. Carolyn said, no, we can and should continue seeing our family dentist for regular cleanings and that she trusted that our dentist would refer us back if her expertise was needed. I was so impressed at the time and attention that Dr. Carolyn gave to me and my daughter without expecting us to continue at the clinic as her patient. That to me demonstrates a strong integrity to the profession and deserves to be applauded.
