A missing tooth or teeth does more than just have an effect on the appearance of your smile:it can have a tremendous impact on your oral and overall health, as well. The roots of a tooth not only hold it in place, but also provide vital signals to the bone tissue in your jaw, keeping it strong and healthy. When you lose a tooth, the lack of stimulation causes your jawbone to begin to deteriorate. As this atrophy continues, it can cause a whole host of issues as your surrounding teeth begin to shift. Left untreated, as your teeth shift further, your face will begin to appear sunken and aged beyond your years. Additional tooth loss will result if enough bone loss occurs, which only exacerbates further atrophy and tooth loss.
Fortunately, the titanium or ceramic posts of dental implants function as bionic tooth roots, providing the necessary signals to stop further bone loss and keep your jawbone healthy and strong. Dental implants from our Beaufort, SC, dentistry practice can restore both your appearance and your health. Whether you need to replace a single tooth or an entire dental arch, our dentistDr. David Babb can help.
Our team of compassionate dental professionals utilize the latest technological advancement and proven innovative techniques to provide you with the finest results. From a single crown to a full denture, whatever your specific case entails, the team at Beaufort River Dental strives to provide you the care you need in order to enjoy the lifelong benefits provided by implant dentistry.
We are proud to offer BioHorizons and Ritter implants. BioHorizons' products are backed by millions of dollars in non-biased research based in the United States. Ritter Implants were designed in part by Dr. Maurice Salama, a world-renowned periodontist.
The latest digital imaging software allows us to determine whether patients are good candidates for dental implants by assessing the height, width, and quality of their jawbone. This incredibly low-radiation scan is also used to pre-plan implant placement and pinpoint the optimal position for the most predictable, natural-looking, and longest-lasting results.
With the information provided by the digital imaging software used to plan a patients' dental implant placement, Dr. Babb can produce a unique 3-D printed surgical guide. This custom-crafted guide allows Dr. Babb to place implants quickly in the optimal location with pinpoint accuracy so that patients can enjoy the best possible outcome to their implant surgery.
Absolutely fantastic! I practiced dentistry for 40 years before retiring. My only hope is that I gave my patients the same welcoming and excellent care I received from Dr Babb and his wonderful staff yesterday. The hygienist, Callie is the best ever with her thorough gentle cleaning. The office is immaculate and totally updated to offer their patients the best in dental care. You will not be disappointed!
The majority of patients are good candidates for dental implants. However, there are a number of factors that may impact your candidacy. If you are suffering from the ill effects of missing teeth, our dentist can evaluate your candidacy at our Beaufort, SC, dental office.
It is no secret that smoking is bad for your health. Since smoking inhibits your body's ability to heal it increases your risk of implant failure. You will need to quit for several months before implant surgery.
Autoimmune disorders such as diabetes can increase risks during surgery and inhibit the healing process. Dr. Babb will review your medical history to ensure you are healthy enough to undergo implant surgery.
Dental implants are the premier treatment for lost teeth.Unlike traditional restorations, they do more than just fill the gaps in your smile. An implant-supported crown, bridge, or denture can stopfurther jawbone atrophy, supporting both your oral and overall health. If you are worried about the cost of implants, we offer patients, 'pay as you go' payment plans where you pay step-by-step during the process. Our ultimate goal is to help you achieve optimal oral health so that you can enjoy the benefits of a beautiful smile.
Dr. Babb will administer anesthesia to ensure your surgery is virtually pain-free. He will then make small incisions in your gums, and using a 3-D printed guide specific to your smile, place the titanium or ceramic implant post.
During the next four to six months, the implant posts will fuse with the bone tissue in your jaw during a process call osseointegration. Once fully fused, the implant will effectively become a part of your jawbone.
After osseointegration is complete, small metal devices called abutments will be placed. These allow your prosthetic to attach to the implant. Once your gums have healed, Dr. Babb will provide a permanent crown, bridge, or denture to fully complete your smile.
Dr. Babb will attach your crown, bridge, or denture to the abutment, completing your smile restoration. We will take special care to color-match your new prosthetic so that it blends seamlessly with your natural teeth.
We want your dental bridge to look and feel like a natural part of your smile. When designing your bridge, we will take into account your facial features and surrounding teeth to create pontics and crowns that look just like your natural teeth.
Dr. David P. Babb makes it a point to educate every patient about their treatment options. If we do not believe a dental bridge is the best choice for you, we will recommend other treatment options and help you make an informed decision.
When it comes to replacing teeth, you want to receive treatment as fast as possible. We value your time and maintain a punctual schedule so that you won't have to wait long to be seen at our Beaufort, SC, office. In some cases, we can even use our CEREC technology to create a beautiful and long-lasting bridge in one day.
Many patients are worried that their replacement teeth won't look natural or that they will have an unsightly black line between their gums and their bridge. Our dentist only uses tooth-colored ceramics such as IPS e.max and zirconia when crafting the pontics and crowns that make up dental bridges, so your restoration will look natural within your smile.
Dr. Babb is a skilled restorative dentist who has helped many patients repair their smiles with dental bridges. He can help you replace teeth with a traditional bridge or an implant-supported restoration.
Before beginning treatment, Dr. Babb will assess the health of your teeth and gums. If you require any extractions, fillings, or periodontal treatment prior to your bridge treatment, Dr. Babb can provide the care you need at our Beaufort, SC, dental office.
If you are receiving a traditional bridge, Dr. Babb will begin by preparing the teeth on either side of the gap. These teeth will be capped with dental crowns, so they will need to be reshaped so that they can properly support the crowns.
Once we prepare your supporting teeth, we will take digital impressions of your smile using a small handheld device. This eliminates the need for traditional putty impressions, which can be messy and uncomfortable for the patient.
In some cases, we can create bridges on the same day using our in-office CEREC machine. After we upload your impressions to the CEREC software, the machine can mill a strong, lifelike dental bridge out of a single block of ceramic.
If you qualify for a CEREC-made dental bridge, you will receive your restoration on the same day. Otherwise, your dental bridge will be completed by the lab and returned to our office in approximately three weeks.
If you are missing a tooth and thinking about treatment, you may have heard of dental implants. Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically placed in the jawbone to replace lost tooth roots. Once the jaw has healed, they can support crowns, bridges, and dentures. There are several reasons to choose an implant-supported dental crown or dental bridge if you have missing teeth:
If you are missing one tooth, you can choose an implant-supported crown. If you are missing several, an implant-supported bridge or denture might be a better choice. With implant-supported restorations, there is no need to alterhealthy teeth to accommodate your dental restoration.
When you lose a tooth, your jawbone almost immediately begins to recede due to an absence of tooth roots. Because dental implants replace tooth roots and provide the necessary stimulation, they prevent jawbone recession. When you choose implants, you can keep your jawline looking healthy and youthful.

First, Dr. Babb will evaluate your smile and goals and confirm that a dental crown is the best solution. In addition to a visual examination, he will also take x-rays of the tooth to determine the extent of the damage.
Next, any decayed or damaged portions of the tooth will be removed. The tooth will also be prepped for your dental crown, a process that requires some removal of natural enamel. Dr. Babb uses conservative techniques to preserve as much tooth structure as possible.
Once the tooth has been prepped, dental impressions will be taken using our advanced CEREC handheld wand. This device captures images of your tooth and sends the data to our computer software program.
Once the impression images have been uploaded to our computer software, Dr. Babb designs your new crown according to the unique anatomy of the tooth. The information is then sent to our in-office milling machine, which carves your dental crown from a solid block of medical-grade ceramic.
Once the fabrication process is complete, Dr. Babb will assess the fit, color, and look of your new crown. Next, he will bond it into place using high-quality dental cement. There is no need for a temporary crown. You will walk out of our office with a new permanent restoration.
In some rare instances, your dentist may need to send your case off to a trusted dental lab partner. In these cases, it will take two office visits to complete your crown treatment. A temporary crown will be placed in the meantime. This helps protect the tooth while chewing and prepare the gums until the lab fabricates the final porcelain restoration.
I had the best experience for my visit. My hygienist, Sally, was absolutely great! The staff is genuinely nice, which is very refreshing! I would 100% recommend for people looking for a new dentist office!
