Dr. Canter grew up in Pike County Illinois, the daughter of J.B. and Naomi Carnes. She graduated in 1984 from Griggsville High School and earned a degree in biology from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1988. In college, she worked in the registrar's office, was involved in campus activities, and was a member of the Eta Chapter of Sigma Kappa. She met her husband, Dr. Craig Canter while attending the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. They were lab partners and married in December of 1990. After graduating, they relocated to Beardstown.
The Canters have three children, Julie Anne, Jack, and Emily. The Canters are members of the First Christian Church in Beardstown. Dr. Canter is a former board member for the Rocket Booster Club, leader of the Clover Clan 4-H for more than 10 years, and past president of the GU chapter of PEO in Beardstown. She cherishes time with her family and friends. She loves to cook, bake, and play water sports.
