My mission, and that of the office, is to create a fun, loving environment for every child to receive dental care. Going to the dentist should not be scary; it should be an experience in which the children feel comfortable and safe.

I love watching my patients grow up and become healthy, happy young adults. I have many patients who were toddlers when I started the practice, and now they are high schoolers with great dental health. I feel accomplished to be a part of this success, and I am confident that the good dental habits we built will last for years to come.

I attended dental school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, then USC for my postgraduate pediatric dentistry program. I completed my residency at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, Miller Childrens & Womens Hospital in Long Beach, and Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey. This training has enabled me to work effectively with children who have complex medical needs and challenges, as well as special needs children.

A board-certified pediatric dentist, I am committed to staying at the forefront of technology to serve my patients needs. I attend continuing education courses that improve my clinical practice, such as Waterlase MD laser dentistry for shot-free dental restorations, silver diamine fluoride, and orthodontics for developing dentition.

My husband, Dr. Shawn Yu, is the orthodontist who comes to the office to help treat our orthodontic patients. He also graduated from USC orthodontic program. We have a son, William, and a daughter, Beatrice.

When I am not working, I like to get involved in my childrens activities. You can find me at the soccer fields, baseball fields, and ballet and karate studios. I also enjoy helping out at my childrens schools and classrooms to stay involved with their education. I am passionate about personal fitness. I love to run and have run 12 half-marathons in the past three years. I recently ran the San Francisco full marathon! Lately, I have enrolled in swim classes to improve my strokes, and I hope to improve with swimming as well.

My team and I are actively involved in promoting dental health in the community and have been doing community outreach in local preschools for the past 12 years. Dental diseases and cavities are preventable, and we see the importance of educating children early. We are passionate about helping them build a lifetime of good oral hygiene habits.

Dr. Shawn Yu received his dental doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania and his orthodontics specialty from the University of Southern California. He was certified by the American Board of Orthodontics in 2011 and has spent many years as a member in various professional organizations including the American Association of Orthodontists and the American Dental Association.

Dr. Shawn Yu is a certified provider of Invisalign and Teen Invisalign and is experienced in all phases of orthodontics for children, adolescents, and people with special needs. He is proficient in treating children as young as six years old with early orthodontics as well as mature adults ranging from simple to complicated cases. His fun, warmhearted demeanor helps young patients enjoy each visit. Many parents have become Dr. Yus orthodontic patients after seeing their childrens smile improve through their orthodontic treatment in our office.

When Dr. Shawn Yu is not in the office straightening teeth and making smiles, he loves spending time with his family; especially his two children. As an active member of our community, he is often helping out at schools and sporting events. He regularly volunteers with food preparation in the fish fry kitchen at Sts. Simon and Jude to help serve the Huntington Beach community.

I have 3 Alaskan malamutes named Koda, Kilala, and Khai. I enjoy being active as much as possible, which includes hiking and taking my dogs to dog beach. I love getting glammed up and helping others feel beautiful like Beyonce!

I am bilingual in Spanish and English and have been in the dental field since 2001. I have a huge passion for kids and strive to help children and families feel at home and at ease while in the office. Working with Dr. Chu and the team has been great! We all share a common goal: to provide the highest quality care to patients.

My education in the dental field preparedme to work in any dental office setting, so I can do anything from placing sealants on our pediatric patients to orthodontics. I love working one-on-one with patients of all ages:providing a great service and at the same time creating meaningful relationships. I am so happy to be working for Dr. Chu and the team because they have helped me broaden my experience and taught me so many new things. Its a truly great environment.

Whenever I am not working, you might find me at the movie theater catching up on all the good movies this month. I enjoy shopping, hanging out with my sisters, watching movies with my family, getting mani/pedis, trying out new recipes, and cycling.

I have worked in the dental field since graduating from Bryman College in 2008. The thing I like most about my job is working with our youngest patients. I work hard to earn their trust and friendship, to convincethem that they are safe and being allowed to follow through with their dental cleaning.

I am married with two kids:Nick, who has been playing soccer for eight years, and Priscilla, who also loves soccer. We have a pet turtle that I found on my doorstep a day after our four-year-old fish died. As a family, we are involved in church and spend most of our weekends at soccer games. I also love to cook and watch movies.

Our practice has a longstanding reputation in the Huntington Beach community, having been opened by Dr. Donald King 45 years ago. Dr. Chu took over 31 years later, and has met and provided care for many second- and third-generation patients of the practice.
