Orthodontists and dentists both help patients improve their oral health, but in different ways. Dentistry deals with the teeth, gum, nerves, and jaw, while orthodontics is a specialty within dentistry that focuses on correcting bites, how your teeth rest together when your mouth is closed (occlusion), and creating a smile with teeth that line up straight.
She was one of the early adopters of SureSmile, which integrates robotics and digital images to increase treatment effectiveness while decreasing treatment time. Dr. Gellerman is the only orthodontist on Long Island who offers this technique. The Facemask Appliance is a one-piece unit comprised of a stainless steel framework (central core) with adjustable forehead and chin pads as well as a cross piece that attaches directly to an intra-oral (in the mouth) appliance to bring the upper jaw forward and downward.
The Facemask Appliance is used in patients that present with a Class III malocclusion or underbite. The body does most of its daily growth roughly between 6 PM and 6 AMthe greatest degree of Facemask wear between those hours tends to yield the best results. Placing the appliance before or immediately following dinner up until snack/bathing and then all night will optimize results.
The Facemask can be cleaned with a damp cloth or with any kind of disinfection pads (Wet Ones and the like). The forehead and chin pads can be replaced with new pads and are often more comfortable when lined with Dr. Scholls Mole- skin.
As with any appliance, there is a short adjustment period as the teeth may experience some minor soreness as the body acclimates to the appliance. We suggest increasing time with the appliance gradually starting with 1 hour and adding an hour per day until the patient is comfortable with wearing the appliance for the desired interval. Any standard pain medication can help during the adjustment period but is not necessary thereafter.
If the appliance is placed immediately before bed, it can often create more soreness than is necessary, prompting unconscious removal by the patient. Placement of the appliance as early in the evening as possible is key to success!!

I love this place. I take my daughter here for braces. She feels safe, everyone is really nice and calming. I only wish they do cleanings as well. I would switch my daughter's dentist in a heartbeat.

I love this place! Everyone here is very nice and welcoming. My orthodontist named Dr. Gellerman is very thoughtful and kind towards me. I started my invisalign treatment here at Bayside Orthodontics and I am very happy with the results so far. :)

I definitely recommend Bayside Orthodontics!!! I made the mistake with prior dentists and jumped into getting Invisalign and it definitely was not for me. I was a much better candidate for traditional braces. I made my consultation and was completely skeptical and nervous due to my previous issues. To my relief, the staff at Bayside Orthodontics was absolutely supportive and kind with all of my questions and walked me through the payment process. The office itself is very clean and spacious. Dr. Mizrahi truly makes you feel comfortable and confident. I explained all of my issues and concerns and felt at ease. He explained every step and gave me options that would set me up for success. I also got a cleaning with Dr. Chan-Ly's and my teeth have never felt better. I am now on my New Smile Journey with my adult braces!!!

I love coming to Bayside Smiles, Dr Chan-Ly and her excellent staff are so wonderful. My husband and I have been coming here for our bi-annual preventative care, we never want to miss an appointment now. Our 2-year toddler had her check up recently and we will always bring her back. Wonderful experience! Dr. Chan-ly is so patient and thorough. She shows concern for her patients and is knowledgeable on various treatments. She maintains her scheduled appointments and is considerate of your time. Her office space is clean, spacious and modern. She takes the extra steps to ensure her patients are comfortable. She also has personable staff who are skilled and helpful. Overall, she is an excellent dentist and a great experience.
