Dr. Xuyu Zhang was born in Guangdong Province, China. At the age of 14 years old, he moved to Los Angeles. He graduated from Occidental College with a B.A. in Biology. Throughout his time in high school and college, he volunteered over a thousand of hours in healthcare settings such as hospitals and dental clinics. Ultimately, Dr. Zhang found his passion in dentistry which best suits his skillsets and interests
Following graduation from college, Dr. Zhang completed his dental training at UCSF School of Dentistry, one of the top dental institutions in the nation. During his time at the Bay Area, he was captivated by the diverse culture, great weather and beautiful scenery. As a result, Dr. Zhang decided to stay in the Bay Area and opened his practice at San Mateo.
Dr. Zhang believes that a healthy mouth is the cornerstone to not only a beautiful smile, but good health overall. Under Dr. Zhang's care, everyone is given special attention and allowed to address individual concerns, no two patients are alike. Dr. Zhang is passionate about staying on the leading edge of dentistry and invests hundreds of hours into ongoing training each year. He is an active member of American Dental Association (ADA), California Dental Association (CDA) and San Mateo County Dental Society (SMCDS).
Fluent in both English and Mandarin, Doris enjoys meeting new people and helping our patients achieve best oral health possible. What most patients love about Doris is her welcoming and cheerful smile that becomes contagious to everyone around her.
She particularly loves the rewarding nature of her job as it has so many challenges every day. Knowing that not everyone may enjoy having dental work done, she strives to help with patients comfort and anxiety levels while getting high-quality work done.
Hannah enjoys working with patients of all ages and loves being able to help her patients who are scared of the dentist get over that fear. She firmly believes how important it is for the entire dental team to work together to provide the best care to patients.
Zoey enjoys providing the best care for her patients and always tries to be helpful. She can speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.She loves traveling around the world with her family. During her free time, she likes hanging out with her two children.

Super great experience. Definitely recommend. The new patient process and scheduling process are so smooth and smart. All done digitally and before the appointment which is rare (you will be surprised how outdated some clinics are) and saves a lot of time. Their equipments are also very modern, advanced, and clean. The dentist is very gentle, professional, efficient, and patient. I did some fillings and it was a very pleasant and pain-free experience. Resonantly priced.

I was referred to Dr. Zhang and also would recommend Dr. Zhang. The staff are all extremely welcoming and helpful. Dr. Zhang is very skilled at his profession and makes sure his patients are conformable during the visit. My teeth haven't felt this clean in years.

Dr. Zhang is the best dentist I have ever seen in the Bay Area! I've done scaling and deep scaling here. My husband had his fillings and wisdom teeth extracted here. No inflammation at all after he had his wisdom teeth removed! The staff here are very friendly as well. Reservation is also very convenient. All in all, I would recommend this office to my friends due to the very high level of professionalism. Thanks for all the staff of it.

I had a terrible panic attack during the extraction, so I walked away shocked myself. I came the second way around, and this time Dr. Xuyu Zhang and his assistance went above and beyond to provide all the comfort. I left feeling much more relaxed than when I came, but this time job got done - the tooth was finally out. I appreciate that so much!! Thank you!

I recently moved into the area and was looking to establish my new dental care and found Baystar Dental through really good reviews. I was also experiencing some dental pain so I called to see if there was any chance they can get me in on an earlier appointment. The office is really clean and modern and their staffs were also very friendly and welcoming. Dr.Zhang also took the time to listen to my concerns and throughly explained to me my options. I was able to do the exam and get an extraction on the same day and I'm already relieved of pain! I definitely will be staying with Dr.Zhang for my dental care and I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a new dentist.

Dr. Zhang is a very responsible dentist. He clearly explained the condition of my teeth and offered me the option of fixing what could be repaired before going to the last resource, pulling out the teeth. This made me trust him as my dentist after many years avoiding seeing one. The team working with him at the office is also very knowledgeable and friendly.

Wow just came back from Maui and found out that our dentist sold his business at first we not sure but it had been 2 years since we saw a dentist after just a short time I was so happy with the service and staff my crown is so nice I brought my husband for full mouth extays and cleaning was so happy so I went back for the same after my crown the cost was so low I had to ask twice before I wrote the check thank you dr Zhang and staff Roberta and joe Reyes

Clean, very professional and educational. They have a tv screen in front of you at all times so that whole you are having your check up or procedure, they explain everything with pictures in real-time. Also a very friendly staff. Would highly recommend going to them.

Had concern seeing a dentist due to COVID but just chipped my front tooth so felt I had to get it looked at. The facility really puts my mind at ease. The clinic is spotless and all the staffs followed proper COVID procedures including temperature check and COVID questionnaires which put my mind at easy. The procedure itself was very efficient and friendly. The X-rays and the operation room are in the same place so I did not have to move at all. Dr. Zhang patiently explained different options for chipped tooth and recommended the least intrusive method. He also documented the before and after shot of my teeth to make sure I am 100% satisfied and felt no discomfort. One thing I usually hate about seeing a dentist is having too much water in my mouth which gags me. However, the equipment they had was first rate and I actually almost fell asleep during the procedures. They gave me a gift bag when I checked out and of course I booked for the next appointment. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a dentist to check out Bay Star Dental.

Excellent service and dental care. The office was well sanitized and everyone used protective wear. Years ago, I got in office zoom whitening and my teeth still look great! I've visited many clinics throughout the years after that but at this clinic, the dentists are experienced and passionate about their work.This time my dentist, was able to combine his expertise with care. He also provided me with excellent aesthetic advice to help me achieve my dental health needs and aesthetics goals. The office is small, clean, modern and tasteful. And the dental assistants are professional and kind. I would highly recommend this clinic for regular check ups, fillings, crowns, zoom whitening and veneers.

I experienced extreme pain at the end of last year where I was unable to sleep for two nights. A friend referred me Blue Star Dental, I decided to give a shot. Despite last minute appointment, clinic stuff was nice enough to schedule the same day appointment with Dr. Xuyu Zhang on a Sunday afternoon. The new patience and check-in process was easy and hassle free. The office follows all COVID 19 guidence by both having the patience filling out the screening form and testing temperture at the time of arrival. Dr.Zhang checked my condition and informed me the pain was caused by outgrowing wisdom teeth which needed to be removed uregntly(4 in total). Doctor removed 2 teeth which were causing the most pain in just under 20 minutes and we had scheduled the next appointment in two weeks. Overall the experience was very good and I would recommend Blue Star Dental to anyone who is in need of dental care.

I like this dentist (Dr. Zhang)! End of Dec 2020 I scheduled through ZocDoc and was able to get an appointment in a day or two. It was for a cleaning. Since I was a first time patient they sent me a series of questions prior to the appointment in addition to COVID-19 exposure questions. I mentioned I had some teeth sensitivity on the questionnaire to which Dr. Zhang brought up. There were a few more he asked me about on the form. This demonstrates that he paid attention to the questionnaire and wanted to address any concerns I had before my cleaning. Overall I thought it was a pleasant experience. My teeth felt really clean after and I scheduled my next teeth cleaning. At the end of my appointment he noted that I needed two fillings to which I scheduled an appointment for 2 weeks later. I just came back from that one and I thought that went well too. He could tell the cavities were not deep and didn't want to give me any anesthesia because that might prevent me from eating later on (thoughtful!). A few other things I liked: - They give you polarized sunglasses to wear during your appointment. This prevents objects or liquids from getting into your eyes and also I don't feel weird about darting my eyes around not knowing what to stare at. - During my filling they placed something in my mouth that kept it open while having suction at the same time. I was impressed with this piece of equipment because it was helpful and I've never seen it before. - The staff are all really nice. - They seem really organized and prepared for each appointment. In the two times I've gone there was no waiting time (admittedly, the pandemic might be a contributing factor). - Dr. Zhang seems to really know his stuff. I have confidence that if I have a question he would be able to answer it well. I would definitely recommend Dr. Zhang & his staff to others.
