Bay Clinic, Inc. is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) network of eight locations serving East Hawai'i families since 1983. We provide quality, affordable, and community directed health care to thousands of Big Island residents regardless of insurance status. We offer comprehensive primary medical, behavioral health, and dental care to our community.
Bay Clinic is the largest FQHC on Hawai'i Island and the second largest in the state. We are one of the leading employers in East Hawai'i and a major contributor to Hawai'i Island's economy. As a learning institution, we also support health workforce development on Hawai'i Island through our residency programs.
Bay Clinic is a community-directed healthcare organization that provides quality primary and preventive care services to the people of East Hawaii. Bay Clinic will ensure that patient-centered, culturally responsive, and affordable healthcare services are locally accessible in our communities.
Unfortunately, COVID is back, but we are in a much better position to respond. We have a good supply of PPE and our clinics are primed with fever kiosk, UVC lights to inactivate airborne COVID pathogens, and sanitization protocols to reduce the spread from high touch areas. In addition, we have a COVID Clinic that already provided over 7000 shots in arms, with much of the patients coming from rural areas and the schools. The work continues and Bay will be there with our health partners fighting the good fight.
I want to extend a big mahalo to our community board members who have been very active in guiding Bay Clinic to the next level of community engagement. For example, providing services far beyond East Hawaii by partnering with the West Hawaii Community Health Center to help vaccinate the westside. We also know that in order to ensure good patient care, our providers and support staff must also feel valued and nurtured. In this regard we have implemented a host of em- ployee friendly gestures like birthday gift cards, extra PTO, bonuses, clinic team stipends, and a company-wide salary increase just to name a few. We are striving to make Bay Clinic an employer of choice, and we are relentlessly pursuing the highest level of customer service while ensuring high quality patient care. Our Dental, Behavioral Health, and Outreach Services have arrived and our medical services are building a solid provider base to deliver the most efficient primary care on the island.
Bay had a recent Community Health Worker (CHW) kick-off event that included community partners like Kumukahi (aka HIHAF), Hui Malama, Papaola Lokahi, HOPE Services, and the Department of Health Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division. The goal of our CHW program is to serve those high needs or at- risk patients who lack a strong circle of support and as a result overutilize the emergency room, or end up sicker because of their unmet health needs. Bay has developed the reputation of serving in areas that other health entities dont have the resources to serve. Places like Keaukaha, Makuu Farmers Market, Milolii, Naalehu, and other rural areas in Puna, Keaau, and Mountain View.

I loved the girls up front. Super friendly. I went for a checkup. I was informed I needed to pull 6 teeth, 4 of which were molars for 200/ tooth.. And then have partials made for another 3500. Also needed deep gum cleaning both sides for 900. So for $5600 I'd be all good. However I got a second opinion and was told I did not need any of those procedures. Always get a second opinion!!

The service is not so bad, but they have a persistent problem with trying to bill for extra work. Our insurance covers 1 regular appointment and an extra cleaning each year. But when I tried to schedule a cleaning, I was persistently told there would be an extra charge from the dentist; I said I didn't want to see a dentist, just have a cleaning. "But then we can't diagnose anything wrong with your teeth!" I know; I don't think there is anything to diagnose, however, and just want a cleaning. They practically made me swear to god I was going to decline this absolutely vital service before letting me get just the cleaning. I forgot to be so insistent when scheduling my wife's cleaning, so this was done by a dentist who didn't spend any extra time with her beyond a quick cleaning and charged her $50. We are switching dentists later this year.

They did an awesome job putting in a filling, Dr Higa was friendly and he made quick work of the filling. The place was clean and everyone was friendly. I would definitely recommend them!

You'd be better off brushing your teeth with pepsi every night and morning alone with a diet of sugary cereals than coming here for any sort of dental healthcare. HORRIBLE service. I made aware trouble I was having with a tooth and was not helped. I go to see a new dentist and immediately was told i needed a ROOT CANAL. I happened to have trouble with two teeth and for some odd reason they have a policy of only one tooth at a time. Bay Clinic only accepts patients to come back a thousand times with no results, but lines their pockets with every single Unnecessary appointment. Tip: don't trust the dental office that's located in a strip mall.

Outstanding service every visit! Fifth visit in a couple of years, for cleaning, X-rays, two crowns and a broken side of tooth with inlay yesterday. Prompt caring service, the doctor and associates were able to remove, clean then re-glue inlay and patch side of tooth. Wow such great service everyone always professional. I recommend to anyone needing and dental care. Full price care, best prices I've found in Hawaii.

Do not go to Bay clinic if you want true care. As a care giver and one of extensive medical background, they violate their oath to do no harm to others. Albeit there are problems, but they let others outside our island's dictate how to do what is true. An aspirin will not help deep set siatica or a broken hand. I have a client with serious nurapathy in her legs, not an addict of opiates but denied when Bay Clinic said they would refill. There are a couple of APRNS given absolute control of the situation of opiates due to abuse of others. Sometimes they're honest patients that need it and not abuse the drug. Bay Clinic used to be a great place now they can't keep their workers due to outside haulies.

I have been to the dentist lately for a crown, that meant many trips to the office. Each time I went, I was seen promptly and with freindly assistance. The dentist was very good, gentle and very informative. The Dental Assistant was very good also, I am glad to give a glowing review. From the front desk on, I have been very pleased with their work.

Went into Bay clinic, received an xray, and a RX for antibiotics. Paid over $100 for that, then I was billed another $25. Went to see another dentist, he pulled my bad tooth right there, no pain, excellent experienced dentist. My tooth should have been pulled at Bay clinic, but it wasn't. This is a way to make extra money, have customers come back when not needed so to collect more money.

Just called, automated with options & then the operator comes on & directs your call to dept...person who answered call, answered questions promptly & with no hesitation, how their walk ins work & also explained about their sliding scale fee which I didn't even ask about! I loved that! Explained my situation with having two kids & waiting around to be seen wouldn't probably work & she actually found a canceled appointment for tomorrow! By far this experience on the phone has been the best, now to see if the visit will be just as good!

This man is discriminatory of ppl with disabilities. He refused to treat my daughter after saying she wasnt high risk for anesthesia which she is(she could die) but he told unsurance he would do her surgery so i couldnt get travel expenses covered . He deliberately made my life hell for months with that, i had to borrow money so my child wouldnt die of sespice. He is evil
