Having chipped one of my front teeth the night before, I was greatly relieved Baxter Dental Group was able to get me in the next day at 8:00 a.m. Little did I know I was about to enter a poor man's version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, with the Daunted Dentist, Apathetic Admin, and Belligerent Boss all having starring roles. My dentist was a young woman, working part-time. After administering anesthesia, she began to set the separation cord, which would keep my gums at bay as she worked along the base of my damaged tooth. Complications arose when she was unable to stop the bleeding the retraction had caused. Following approximately 15 minutes of trial and error, she surrendered, muttering, "Close enough," and started drilling prior to setting the composite filling. Not long after, shiny new tooth intact, I was on my way home. As the anesthesia gradually subsided, what at first presented as initial discomfort quickly took the form of unpleasant compression, as if someone were squeezing the ends of my two front teeth together, causing their foundations to pull away from one another. I went to the mirror only to discover that was exactly what was taking place: The tooth the doctor had repaired was leaning into its neighbor, so much so a gap was clearly visible at the gum line. I peered up at the clock. The dental practice was closed for the day and, following Murphy's Law, tomorrow was Sunday. In the meantime, I had no choice but to begin a liquid diet because when I bit down, it felt as if a wedge was being driven between my two front teeth. Once Monday arrived, I called and left a message. No one called me back. I tried again on Tuesday; a staff member answered. I stated I was in pain and needed to be seen. The receptionist replied I would need to make an appointment, the earliest being in two days' time. I pleaded my case, explaining the pain was inhibiting my ability to eat and sleep. I was met by silence, which lent an apathetic air of "How's this my problem?" then, instead of conferring with a doctor, the office assistant doubled down, stating the appointment was all she could offer. Concerned this might happen to others, I drafted a Google review and posted it that evening. Shortly thereafter, starting at 8:45 p.m. with the last arriving at 9:30, I received four calls from an unknown number. Looking it up, I discovered it was the owner of the clinic. Needing to go to work (I work nights), so as not to awaken him, I texted him during my lunch break. The following morning, the owner texted he had "heard" I was in pain and, if his office had been made aware of this, he would have seen that I'd gotten in sooner and asked I come in that day. I told him I was unable to take off work on such short notice. I was met by a book-length response, which opened with the owner listing his dental credentials, the clinic's history, before launching into a diatribe as to how my dentist/his employee had done me a favor by getting me in on short notice while admitting "[ . . . ] she really didn't have time [to treat me]." He added his staff had stayed late due to me and, at that, on a Saturday. He ended by saying if I had any other concerns, to please call him. My appointment had been at 8:00 a.m. the previous Friday. I replied that if my doctor was unable to properly address my concern, she should have deferred or referred my case and, feeling uneasy, said I preferred to continue the conversation via text for documentation purposes. He darted back, "She [my doctor] took the time to make sure it [my tooth repair] was done right." I informed him that if this were the case, we would not be having our conversation, nor would I be eating dinner through a straw. Given he chose to be ardently defensive of his staff at the expense of a patient's pain, atop having confused the basic details of my case, I felt it best to get a second opinion and have a professional fix the problem caused by Baxter Dental Group.

Dr W is great. I have been a patient there for many years. I was a bit disappointed in the hygienist this time. She wasn't as gentle as the previous girls. Still have a sore mouth.
