Dr. William Bates has dedicated his personal and professional life to advancing the orthodontics profession. Since beginning his studies, he has consistently focused on giving back through community outreach and orthodontic associations. He received his undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). With a solid business background established, he continued his education at the UAB School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD). Dr. Bates was the President of the Class of 2017 as well as the Deans Medal Recipient a prestigious honor awarded to the most outstanding student in academics, service and leadership among the graduating class. During dental school, he met his lovely, talented wife, Kathryn. Following their wedding celebration, Dr. Bates and his wife moved up North for a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend one of the top three orthodontics programs in the world. With lots of grit and determination, Dr. Bates earned a Master of Science in Orthodontics from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Bates actively participates in a variety of professional associations, including the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO), Charles H. Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontic Research and Education and the American Dental Association (ADA). Along with leading his own practice, he teaches part time in the Orthodontics Clinic at UAB. Dr. Bates is a proud Alabama native with strong Huntsville roots and deep Birmingham connections. His academic career began at Grissom High School where he played on the golf team and won a very fitting senior superlative Best Smile. When he is not at the office, Dr. Bates enjoys attending Dave Matthews Band concerts at various venues across the country as well as playing golf, going on road trips, spending time with family and friends and relaxing with his wife Kathryn and dog-hter Roux.
Roux Bates is a spunky, 6-year-old Dakota Sport Retriever. She is a beloved member of the Bates family and the office staff. From time to time, she can be found happily napping in different areas of the office, making patients days just a little bit brighter. When shes not at work, she loves swimming, going for hikes, playing fetch, and of course, taking long walks on the beach.

I highly recommend Dr Bates and his team. I was very anxious about getting braces because of my teeth sensitivity. I'm very pleased with the results and especially grateful to Brenisha for her patience and professionalism during my visits.

Dr. Bates and his entire staff are so great. I started my journey in April and I have had no issues. Everyone is so nice and personable, which is one of the main things that I love about the office. I will be recommending everyone I know to them! Brenisha at the Jasper office has been my Dental Assistant for my last few visits and I have loved having her. She is so sweet and so great at what she does! 10/10 recommend!

After the sudden passing of my orthodontist near the end of my treatment, Dr Bates took over. He completed and adjusted my treatment. The staff is amazing and became like friends.

Dr.Bates and his staff are INCREDIBLE!! They always greet you with a smile and make you feel welcome. Brenisha always personally takes care of me and does me right! They will treat you well, and answer any questions you might have. I would definitely reccomend Bates Orthodontics!

Dr. Bates stepped up and help when my othodontist needed it! Dr. Thacker is missed, but Dr. Bates kept everything going smoothly! he let me know when i need a change in my retainers and gave me the best way to fix it!

Amazing from the start! Starting with the friendly voice you hear on the phone or the friendly smile you see when you walk in from Megan and Tori ....to the great assistants .... And saving the best for last ...the Bates both are wonderful from the inside out! I love the updates to the office! I must say I'm loving my smile more and more each day and I'm also very happy to see my daughters perfect smile thanks to Dr. Bates.......

Love Dr. Bates!!! I thought when Dr. Thacker is gone, i will never find a great Ortho Dentist like him, but no! I found Dr Bates :) he is nice and friendly :) And i love all his staff!!! They are all nice and friendly!! I always tell people to go Dr Bates when they asked me where i get my braces. They are the BEST!!!!
