Dr. William Bates has dedicated his personal and professional life to advancing the orthodontics profession. Since beginning his studies, he has consistently focused on giving back through community outreach and orthodontic associations. He received his undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). With a solid business background established, he continued his education at the UAB School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD). Dr. Bates was the President of the Class of 2017 as well as the Deans Medal Recipient a prestigious honor awarded to the most outstanding student in academics, service and leadership among the graduating class. During dental school, he met his lovely, talented wife, Kathryn. Following their wedding celebration, Dr. Bates and his wife moved up North for a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend one of the top three orthodontics programs in the world. With lots of grit and determination, Dr. Bates earned a Master of Science in Orthodontics from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Bates actively participates in a variety of professional associations, including the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO), Charles H. Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontic Research and Education and the American Dental Association (ADA). Along with leading his own practice, he teaches part time in the Orthodontics Clinic at UAB. Dr. Bates is a proud Alabama native with strong Huntsville roots and deep Birmingham connections. His academic career began at Grissom High School where he played on the golf team and won a very fitting senior superlative Best Smile. When he is not at the office, Dr. Bates enjoys attending Dave Matthews Band concerts at various venues across the country as well as playing golf, going on road trips, spending time with family and friends and relaxing with his wife Kathryn and dog-hter Roux.
Roux Bates is a spunky, 6-year-old Dakota Sport Retriever. She is a beloved member of the Bates family and the office staff. From time to time, she can be found happily napping in different areas of the office, making patients days just a little bit brighter. When shes not at work, she loves swimming, going for hikes, playing fetch, and of course, taking long walks on the beach.

Dr.Bates and his team are all amazing! Very friendly and professional environment. Each appointment us quick and easy They don't have you waiting all. Excellent staff. I also appreciate Tori (front desk lady ) for scheduling my appointments and making changes when I need them she's very professional. Professional and friendly from sign-in to sign-out. The office is vibrant and is both kid and adult friendly. Dr. Bates and his staff are absolutely wonderful. I have specifically been taken care of by Breneisha for the majority of my visits. She represents the practice very, very well! Highly recommend.

Dr.Bates staff are the BEST!!!Breneisha I hope the spelling of your name is correct if not I apologize.I enjoy every visit at Dr.Bates never a bad visit.Luckily I have Breneisha every visit.She is friendly,pleasant easy to talk to and I enjoy talking to her.I can happily say I never had any problems afterwards dealing with my wires or any type of pain.Breneisha takes her time and focus on me with every visit.Keep Up The Good Work!!!
