My dental career started by chance when I enlisted in the US Air Force in 1975. I was hoping to get into computers but ended up a dental assistant. After 3 years I decided it was time to go back to school. Those three years were formative in my approach to dental care. I worked with many dentists and I saw a wide range in approaches to patient care and comfort. I decided that should I reach my goal of becoming a dentist, I was going to make dental care as comfortable and pain free as possible.
I received my undergraduate degree in biology at University of Southern California (GO Trojans). My dental degree came from the University of California, San Francisco. I returned to the Air Force for 17 more years and retired in 2003. My assignments included Japan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. I met my beautiful wife Kathy in Albuquerque and we have been together 26 years. I retired at Eielson in 2003 and filled in at different offices before open my office in 2006 with my dental hygienist wife, Kathy. In 2015 the office was moved to the current location on 21st Ave, near the hospital.
Restorative dentistry is my passion from just a simple filling or crown to rebuilding a smile or a bite. I also enjoy all different aspects of dentures from partial, complete and implant retained dentures. Ive had extensive training in Occlusion, Implants, TMJ issues and Prosthodontics. I have also attended courses at the Spears Institute and Pankey Institute.
I have been a dental hygienist for 17 years. I graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center at the top of my class. I have the privilege of going to work every day and working with the best patients. Not many people love going to work every day but I am one of the lucky few. I enjoy being able to provide compassionate, comprehensive care to people and change any negative perspectives they may have from previous experiences. When Im not working I am busy taking care of my two dogs and of course Dr Barrera who has been my husband for 26 years.
I've been in Alaska for 28 years; I love Alaska. When I was younger, I was a paramedic/ firefighter. I have worked over 18 years in oral surgery, working up front & in the back. I've been a patients insurance advocate with over 25 years experience and have been with Dr Barrera for 7 years.
I'm originally from Germany but have been in Alaska for 21 years. Ive raised two beautiful children and started my career as a dental assistant 16 years ago. I have been working with Dr Barrera for 11 years and love working with him. When Im not working I tend to my dog Roxy or ride my Harley. I love Alaska.

The most caring, professional and friendly dentistry I've ever had. Had a concern about my gum tissue. Dr. Barrera fitted me into their schedule and solved my problem. They are the BEST!

The staff are great, they make me enjoy going to the dentist, it's such a positive & friendly atmosphere. Dr Barrera is really good also, very gentle... he once gave my daughter an injection and she didn't even feel it
