Its a pleasure to spend my day delivering care that brings about positive changes in each persons life. With straight teeth, my patients have a beautiful smile, and one that is healthy too. Their bite is correct for proper chewing, and they are less likely to have dental problems in the future. I help them feel better about themselves by creating a healthy, beautiful smile. A becoming smile makes a person more confident, which helps in their personal and professional life.

Spending my days working one-on-one with patients is very fulfilling. I get to know them as individuals and treasure the relationships that develop as a result of our conversations. Of course, seeing each persons happy face on the day we remove their braces and see their new smile for the first time is the best experience, and one that never grows old.

In addition to being a clinical associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, I actively seek out continuing education offerings. Ours is a constantly evolving profession, and its essential that I remain up to date on new technologies and changing treatment practices. My patients trust me to deliver the highest level of care and orthodontic treatment options. Continuing education ensures I am able to do so.

Barrer & White Orthodontists - Orthodontist in Reading, PA

Except for my college years, Ive been a lifelong resident of Exeter Township. My wife and I have been married for more than 40 years. We enjoy spending time with our three sons, three wonderful daughters-in-law, and our grandchildren. When Im away from the office, I can often be found on the golf course or tennis court or taking long walks with my beautiful wife.

Practicing orthodontics is a professionally and personally rewarding career. Every day I get to assist in changing peoples smiles, as well as their feelings about their appearance, and thats satisfying. When a person feels secure in their smile, they share it more often: their confidence and self-esteem increases, and they become more outgoing and comfortable in every interaction. As an orthodontist, I help bring about these lifelong transformations every day.

Ive been an orthodontist for more than 30years. My father introduced me to dentistry and orthodontics, and I fell in love with the field. The profession allows me time to develop lasting relationships with my patients, to get to know them on a personal level, and learn about their lives and interests. The stories they share about their hobbies, adventures, and plans are always fascinating. I look forward to each persons next visit to hear their latest updates.

Whether I am caring for a young person whos excited to get started with braces, or an adult whos thrilled to be getting the smile theyve always wanted, Im enthusiastic for that person. Orthodontics truly transforms lives.

Its essential I remain current on developments in orthodontics. This is a field that sees constant changes in technologies, treatments, and materials. Staying abreast of those developments ensures my patients receive the highest quality of care. Ive pursued continuing education in orthodontics, aesthetics, lasers, 3D imaging, scanning and aligner treatments, to name a few.

Born in Pittsburgh, my family settled in Wyomissing when I was in the fourth grade, and we have been here ever since. My life is shared with my wife Ann, our daughter Allison, son Patrick, and our family dog, Sophie. When Im not caring for my patients, I enjoy taking walks with Ann and Sophie. Socializing with family and friends is a priority, and I enjoy staying active by biking, playing table-tennis, and hiking. Photography is one of my hobbies. Also, I love competitive tennis and am a 4.5 USTA player.

We recognize that all of our patients are unique and deserve to receive orthodontic care that reflects their individual needs. Our experienced and talented team is committed to creatinga comfortable, stress-free, and rewarding orthodontic experience every time you visit our practice.

At Barrer & White Orthodontists, our goal is to provide each unique patient with personalized orthodontic treatment. Patients have the added benefit of seeing our two experienced, caring doctors who create collaborative treatment plans, make custom archwires, and do all bonding and banding.

Our Patient Rewards program provides the opportunity to earn points that can be redeemed for various gift cards in return for excellent cooperation. Keeping teeth sparkling clean, wearing elastics, and visiting the general dentist for checks and cleanings, are only a few of the ways we encourage patients during their journey to a fantastic smile. Contests, Rita's Water Ice days, and special family events like bowling parties and movies are some of the other ways we reward our patients!

Our younger patients enjoy taking part in our Kids Club, which helps them to feel included and excited about treatment if theyre not quite ready for braces. We believe it is important to start orthodontic treatment at the right time. As facultyat the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, they are experts on knowing the best time to begin orthodontic treatment.

Being involved with our community is important to us. Whether it is our annual Food Drive to benefit the Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank, our drive to help local animal shelters, or supporting Daffodil Days for the American Cancer Society, we hope to help foster community through our events.

Excellent experience with Barrer & White! I'm a mom of two little boys and getting braces has been on my "things to do" for a long time. I was nervous but everyone at the practice made me feel super comfortable! Easy and quick! Can't wait to see the results!

I was not able to discuss my concerns and be heard. I went somewhere else and their plan for treatment was very different. If I was listened to rather than dismissed, I probably would have had a better interaction.

This office is clean, presentable, and inviting. The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and easy to talk to. The providers reflect the same energy and service of their staff. I made the best choice taking my son to this office for his orthodontic care.

Always a great experience at B&W. We could not be happier with the timeliness, positivity, and professionalism. We drive 45 minutes to the office because we appreciate and trust them so much!!

As an "older" recipient of braces, I am extremely satisfied with the services I've received from Barrer & White. Everyone is very professional, the office is always clean, and timing is always efficient. Kudos to this excellent medical facility during the Covid-19 pandemic also. I always felt safe.

July 27 Update: After writing my review, Dr. Barrer called 2 days later to apologize for the miscommunication. He had a very kind voice and sounded sincere and understanding. He said that Mary the receptionist was frustrated as to why my appointment did not show up in the system, therefore not triggering my reminder appointment and that he forgot to call me. I appreciated the explanation and was open to visiting the dental practice. Today, July 27: I went in for a 9:10 appointment prior to updating my negative review. Lori said hello and handed me a clipboard of forms to fill out-- not overly friendly, very down-to-business. I had the feeling that the staff had already talked about me and the negative review I had up. Waiting room was clean, homey feeling. Another associate, Joy came in pretty soon afterwards. She led me to an old carpeted office with an examination chair in the corner. She was very terse and issued me instructions without much explanation. "Stand there." "I will take three photos of you." "Sit there." "Push this into your mouth." "Hold this, NO, hold it like this." Not very personable or meaningful interaction. She went to her computer and started looking at the photos she took of my teeth. I was still sitting on the examination chair, so I got up to go sit across the desk from her. Joy: "No, I did NOT say you could get up yet. I'm calling Dr. Doug over." Dr.Doug (aka Dr. White), came in and gave me a brief overview on what ortho work needed to be done. He heard my concerns and said that they werent that big of a deal (aging will take care of your issues). Due to the brevity of the interaction, I felt dismissed rather than heard or understood. The experience was very straightforward, no frills, no neighborhood friendliness. Pricing was similar to Philadelphia city prices, but with a generic brand retainer instead of the brand name Invisalign. Still not sure what to make of this experience, overall just ok. I'm sure that Dr. White and Dr. Barrer would do good ortho work, but the practice is missing the warmness, kindness, and understanding of the patient that I've seen in other dental practices. ____________ Nice to you... until they're not. Back in June, I scheduled an appointment for the first week of July. I immediately called back 10 minutes later and rescheduled for today, July 12th. July 12th (aka today) rolls around; I did not receive a reminder and missed my 9:10am appointment. Upon calling back and apologizing, both Laurie and Mary were very stern and said "I looked bad" that I missed my appointment, and had a cancellation on my record (which wasn't a cancellation, it was a reschedule that happened weeks in advance, within 10 minutes of booking). Unlike my first call with them, where they were eager and willing to help me book an appointment as soon as possible, Mary was very terse and said "OK well WHAT DAY CAN YOU ACTUALLY MAKE IT", then prompted to suggest a date a month out, without suggesting any opportunities to be put on a waitlist/cancellation list. They're nice to you when you're a new customer, and hold it against you when there's any mistake. The staff has no empathy, I suggest a different practice in the area.

My first experience with Barrer & White was as a patient. 30yrs later, it was a no brainer to bring our daughters to Barrer & White. We have been apart of the family for the last 4-5hrs. The staff is amazing: exceptionally friendly. All the front desk staff are so incredibly nice to my daughters, especially Lori who they love. They took care of them during COVID when parents couldn't go in office. They always followed up with us to let us know our daughters status after their appointment. You cannot ask for a better family atmosphere to take care of your children's orthodontic needs!!!

I'm going to give B&W 5 stars; my son had his consultation a couple days ago! Joy and Dr. Jim were fantastic! My son met a couple additional staff members and he really liked them. They are friendly and take time to explain everything, very thorough! Unfortunately the office doesn't work with our insurance, so we will have to go to another office. It's making me sad! Lol! But regardless, this place definitely deserves a 5 review!
