Dr. Brock J. Barras earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 2001 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He pursued his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, graduating in 2005. Dr. Brock Barras advances his dental knowledge and experience with hundreds of hours of continuing education every year. He has been practicing in the Lafayette, Louisiana area since 2007.

Dr. Brock Barras has received advanced training, including Misch implant training, CIRP implant training, and FACE TMJ and occlusion training. He also completed a yearlong comprehensive implant residency program in 2013. He is a member of the following dental organizations:

Dr. Brock Barras works with his wife, Dr. Christy Barras, to provide high-quality dental care. They have 5 children: Mazie (age 9), Caroline (age 8), Julia (age 6), Ben (age 2), and Paul (age 1). In his free time, Dr. Brock Barras enjoys exercising, playing with his children, enjoying time with friends and family, and attending ULL and LSU sporting events.

Dr. Christy Barras was born and raised in Plaquemine, Louisiana. She graduated from St. John High School and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette in 2002. From there she relocated to New Orleans to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the LSU Health Sciences Center in 2006.

Upon graduation, she found herself practicing General Dentistry in Baton Rouge. In 2008, Dr. Christy Barras was given the opportunity, alongside her husband, to take over the practice of Dr. Bill Barrois. Shortly after 2009, she adopted the practice of Dr. Sam Foreman, a practice with an amazing 60-year history in the heart of Downtown Lafayette. In 2013, Drs. Brock and Christy Barras combined their practices to form what is known today as Barras Family Dentistry.

Dr. Christy Barras is a member of the American Dental Association, the Acadiana District Dental Association, the Louisiana Dental Association, a 2012 member of the LDA House of Delegates, and a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. She is the daughter of Wayne and Darlene Billings of Plaquemine and has a beautiful family of her own.

Dr. Bethany McIver is a Lafayette native that previously worked with us at Barras Family Dentistry as Dr. Petersen. In 2015, Dr. McIver got married and moved to North Carolina where she worked as an associate dentist at Carlyle Dental in Kinston, NC. She and her family recently returned to Lafayette following the completion of her husbands medical residency.

In 2010, Dr. McIver received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Minor in Chemistry from The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is a proud Ragin Cajun. She then went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Louisiana State University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2014.

Youll find Dr. McIver enjoying dinning out with her husband or attending a UL sporting event with her family. The McIvers have a daughter named Caroline and a dog named Drew that are the light of their lives. Dr. McIvers favorite parts of her job are the mix of art and science, and the opportunity to care for others. It is important to Dr. McIver to develop trust and understanding with her patients. She makes every effort to stay up to date on the latest techniques and technology in the dental profession. She is a member of the ADA and the AGD.

Marla is an EDDA-certified dental assistant and has been working in the field of dentistry since 1993. She has excelled at Barras Family Dentistry for over 11 years and was promoted to Patient Care Coordinator at the end of 2014. She enjoys building trust-based relationships with patients and is honored to be a part of such a close-knit dental family.

Courtney is a native of New Iberia. She graduated from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 2013. She joined our practice in 2015, after moving here from Austin, Texas. Courtney enjoys the calm, family-oriented practice that Barras Family Dentistry has to offer. She loves teaching our patients about their oral health, with a focus on preventive dentistry. In her spare time, Courtney serves as a member on the Board of Directions at The Healing House and loves spending time outside with her Lab, Maggie.

Jenna, a New Iberia native, attended LSU in Baton Rouge for three years before moving to New Orleans for hygiene school in 2009. After graduating from dental school in 2011, she lived in New Orleans until moving here in 2017. Im excited to be back in the Acadiana area after being away for 11 years, she says. Jennas ultimate goal is making our patients happy. She loves the positive atmosphere here at Barras Family Dentistry, and she is glad to help patients achieve outstanding oral care. Outside of office hours, Jenna enjoys reading traveling and working out she even teaches a barre workout class! She married her husband, John Austin, in May 2017.

Monette has been a certified dental assistant since 1991. She has worked for Barras Family Dentistry since 2008. She is passionate about helping people maintain and/or restore a beautiful, white, healthy smile, and she is dedicated to helping people. She is proud to be working for a practice with an exemplary work ethic. When she is outside of the office, she spends every moment she can with her family.

Shawana brings over 19 years of experience as a dental assistant to Barras Family Dentistry. She joined the Army soon after graduating from high school in 1998. There, she began dental assisting while taking continuing education courses in pediatric and oral surgery. She also serves as a dental assistant instructor. She is very passionate about making a difference in peoples lives, and she is grateful to be a part of a team that values both staff and patients alike. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her two beautiful daughters. In her spare time, she likes shopping, watching football, physical fitness, and doing yard work.

Jessica joined Barras Family Dentistry in May of 2016. She brings over six years of experience as a dental assistant. Jessica feels very blessed to be part of a caring, passionate and dedicated team. Helping others feel comfortable and confident is what she enjoys most about working in the field of dentistry. Outside of work, Jessica loves spending time with her kids and family.
