His studies have taken him all over the world including the United States, Spain, Switzerland, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Dr. Socarras studied at New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry for his D.D.S. In 1990, he accepted a fellowship in the Oral Surgery Residency Program at Bellvue Hospital Medical Center. His path in life led him back to NYU College of Dentistry where he was an Assistant Clinical Professor. His role here allowed him to teach senior dental students.
Dr. Socarras also has certification in Intravenous Sedation from the Albert Einstein Bronx Medical Center where he studied with his colleague, Norman Trieger. He also has his certification in Oral Sedation from Doctors of Oral Conscious Sedation (DOCS).
His area of expertise is in dental implants. Being trained and mentored by experts in the field, such as Drs. Richard Kraut, Leonard Linkow, and Richard Glickman, has prepared him for this delicate work. Dr. Socarras had an extraordinary study regimen that when combined with his work on thousands of patient dental implants, as well as an rigorous peer panel review, granted him the honor of being part of a Fellowship while being made a Diplomat of Implant Dentistry by the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Dr. Socarras has had the pleasure of consulting with and working on over 11,000 dental implants.
Dr. Socarras opened a private practice in Queens, NY in 1993 where he became the areas most distinguished young Hispanic dentist. His involvement in the community and service to its residents garnered him the Ramon Emeterio Betances medallion, presented to him at the Puerto Rican parade in New York City. Expanding his practice over several years allowed him to serve patients in many different areas. After some time however, the pace of work and an expanding practice took its toll. Eventually, Dr. Socarras closed his New York offices and relocated his family to offer them all a more well-rounded life. This led him to settle in nearby Connecticut. He worked as a consultant for several different practices while he made plans to open a private practice in his new home. Dr. Socarras then opened his new dental practice in Prospect, Connecticut where he now resides with his family. He is an active community member and provides dental care to many families in Prospect and the surrounding area.
Dr. Socarras loves the arts and finds enjoyment in dancing and deep sea fishing. He could not be more proud of his three lovely daughters: Kayla, 22, is also an art lover. As a young woman she is a medical student pursuing her Masters Degree. Patricia, who is 18, studies psychology and has an aptitude for analytical thinking. She hopes to become an attorney. The youngest is Patricia. At 16, she is a high schooler who is grounded and finds pleasure in being the best cook in the family. Dr. Socarras has another important woman in his life, his mother, Nieves Stewart. A reserved woman who is deeply connected to her faith, she is a compassionate human being with a huge heart. She continues to be caring, supportive and encouraging to her son, Dr. Efrain A. Socarras.

Very friendly staff. The work done on the teeth is very thorough. My kids are very happy when they go for exams and cleanings. Usually kids are nervous when its time to go to the dentist. Not mine, because the kindness and gentle way everything is done, they're always happy to go. I definitely recommend this place.

First time visiting the dentist in a long time, first time ever at Barnum Dental. Highly recommend, everything about the visit was perfect. The dental hygienist was amazing, I believe her name was Sada. She took the time to explain things and had a professional and kind manner. Great visit.

I am a new patient here & had my 1st appointment this week. I was so pleased & impressed by this office. My entire experience from the front office staff, dental hygienist, & doctor was wonderful. Sada (the dental hygienist) took the time to explain to me everything she was doing/finding, gave me individualized advice about my dental hygiene routine, & was extremely personable throughout the whole visit. I am so happy I made the switch to this office - I would definitely recommend Barnum Dental to friends & family!

I went in for my cleaning to Barnum dental for the FIRST time . At that visit I was not examined by the doctor. I found that odd considering I've worked for dentists before and currently work for an oral surgeon but went about scheduling my second visit. 7 months later I go in for my second cleaning. Once the hygienist was done she told me I had a cavity since the FIRST visit & tried dismissing me ! I asked if I wasn't going to be seen by doctor. She went to check and came back telling me he was in a meeting ... I was furious! I paid out of pocket for my first visit and wasn't even seen by a doctor to make sure there was nothing of concern... I return and am informed I've had a "cavity" this whole time and had gone untreated because of the lack of care of the doctors present. She went to get the doctor informing him I wasn't going anywhere unless seen. He came in, took a look at my lower left teeth - "diagnosed" me with cavities and left. He didn't care to examine all of my teeth to make sure they didn't miss anything else. The hygienists are amazing but the lack of care of doctors is beyond me !

I've always had problems with doctors of any kind due to a horrific anxiety problem. The team attending to me was more than accommodating and made me feel comfortable and calm. They presented themselves not only professionally but also as human beings. I will no doubt make them my first choice when receiving any dental care.

Staff is welcoming, nice and knowledgeable. Hygienist did a great job cleaning my teeth and time to do so as previous dentist didn't do there was build up. She also explained to me what had happened, what was wrong, and next steps and what to do in mean time until u can afford the work up. Thanks.

My experience with barum dental has been amazing amazing amazing. Londa is the sweetest most caring worker I have ever met she's incredible. She is an angel. The tall Hispanic doctor is amazing too, he is funny and the best dental in Bridgeport. They both are great excellent workers.i would recommend everyone there because of them both.
