Dr. Barnes has been setting the highest standards of excellence in dentistry since 1984. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, then went on to earn her Doctorate of Dental Science from the University of Illinois.
An esteemed member of the dental community, Dr. Barnes has been appointed to both the State of Illinois Board of Dentistry and the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners. As a member of the State of Illinois Board of Dentistry, she helped to shape policy and maintain professional standards and licensure for all practitioners in the state. She also serves as an Examiner for the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners in such states as Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Maine, among others. Dr. Barnes has also been featured in N 'Digo Maga Paper and received awards from the Student National Dental Association as well as the African American Association of Dental Hygienists. Among other honors, Dr. Barnes has been recognized for her excellence in practice by Jim Edgar, former Governor of the State of Illinois, the University of Illinois Urban Health Program, City Colleges of Chicago, the University of Illinois - receiving the 'Distinguished Alumni Award,' ABC 7 News, WGN News and many other civic organizations.
Outside the office, Dr. Barnes has dedicated many of her efforts to helping others who aspire to work in the field of dentistry. Among the contributions she has made in this regard, with the support of the former Chancellor of City Colleges, Dr. Barnes has founded and overseen the development of the Kennedy-King College dental hygiene program, now fully operational from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry site. This program has produced over 100 para-professionals across the city since its inception.
Dr. Kenya McCalebb began her undergraduate educational journey at Northern Illinois University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication. She continued her post-baccalaureate education at Rush University in Chicago and received her Master of Science degree in Biotechnology.
Realizing her passion for health, science, and technology would be more fulfilled in a career that directly serves and cares for people, Dr. McCalebb furthered her education in pursuit of a career in dentistry and received her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Meharry Medical College in 2015. Her professional journey continued at Marquette University when Dr. McCalebb completed a one-year residency program in Advanced General Dentistry where she could enhance her professional skills and knowledge. Her advanced training included all aspects of dentistry with an emphasis on Comprehensive Care and Health Awareness.
Dr. McCalebb is a native of the South Shore community in Chicago. She enjoys exercising, bike riding, cooking, traveling, as well as spending time with her family and friends. Shes an absolute animal lover especially dogs. She also enjoys dancing, attending summer festivals in Chicago and listening to a variety of music. Dr. McCalebb is also a member of Apostolic Church of God in the Woodlawn community.
She's involved with many community outreach programs including numerous health fairs and health screenings to promote and enhance the importance of healthcare and dentistry. Dr. McCalebb is happy to return to her hometown and to join Barnes Walton Dental Associates, Ltd and to make a difference in the community through giving back and providing exceptional patient care and service.
