Barataria Dental is a general, family, and cosmetic dentistry practice, founded in 1965 by Dr. Guy Ribando. Today, Dr. Maria Burmaster and Dr. Valerie Hemphill carry on their fathers practice, now at Barataria Dental. We are conveniently located in Marrero, Louisiana, and serve the entire West Bank of New Orleans.

Our focus is on providing comprehensive dental care for the entire family, especially patients who have complex dental needs including cosmetic dental concerns and functional dental problems. Drs. Burmaster and Hemphill have extensive post-graduate training in restorative dentistry and treating conditions such as TMJ disorders.

We offer a range of cosmetic dentistry services for patients looking to improve the appearance of their smile, including teeth whitening and Invisalign. More than just cosmetic dentists, our doctors focus on the functional aspects of the smile, to repair any imbalance or misalignment that is causing a cosmetic concern.

Our family-focused dentist office provides comprehensive dentistry for children and adult patients. Our dental care team is well versed in all aspects of oral development and provides tailored treatment for growing- and aging- smiles.

We help children feel safe in the dentists office environment so that they may receive high-quality dental care to prevent the development of childhood oral disease, structural concerns related to the jaw, and tooth misalignment.

Dr. Maria R. Burmaster earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Loyola University and then attended Louisiana State University School of Dentistry from 1989-1993. She earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery with her sister, Dr. Valerie, who also graduated in May of 1993.

Dr. Maria has been a member of the New Orleans Dental Association, the Louisiana Dental Association and the American Dental Association since 1993. She is also a member of the Crescent City Study Club, a branch of the Seattle Study Club.

Dr. Maria attended the Center for Advanced Dental Studies in St. Petersburg to advance her knowledge of TMJ diagnosis and treatment, Invisalign and many other continued education courses relevant to achieving the highest quality care for her patients.

Dr. Valerie R. Hemphill earned a Bachelor of Science from Southeastern Louisiana University prior to attending Louisiana State University School of Dentistry from 1989-1993. Along with Dr. Maria, Dr. Valerie graduated in 1993 earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery.

Dr. Valerie has been an active member of the New Orleans, Louisiana, and American Dental Associations since 1993, and is a member of the Crescent City Study Club branch of the Seattle Study Club. She achieved additional training in the treatment of TMJ disorder, occlusion and Invisalign through the Dawson Center.

Shes been married to Dr. Philip Hemphill since 1985, and they have five children. Dr. Valerie has and continues to be a lifelong resident of the West bank, residing in Marrero. She is also active in her parish of Visitation of Our Lady Catholic Churchs stewardship.

Amy first came to Barataria Dental, LLC in 1978 as Dr. Guys dental assistant. She now helps lead the team with Dr. Valerie and Dr. Maria as the Office Manager. She attended LW Higgins High School in Marrero. She has trained as an Expanded Duty Dental Assistant and is certified in Radiology. She has over 30 years of experience in the dental field. Over the years, Amy has been an assistant, coordinator and office manager. She is married to Claude and has three sons, Victor, Bryan and Chad. Shes lived in Crown Point since 1969 and enjoys Scrapbooking, cooking, fishing and traveling.

Trang is a registered dental hygienist and has practiced since 2001. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene along with an additional license to administer local anesthesia from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Trang continues to grow in her profession by attending continuing education courses. She provides patients with thorough and effective treatment with a focus on preventive care. Trang and her husband have three wonderful sons and reside on the Westbank.

Maranda is Dr. Valeries right-hand and smiling Clinical Assistant. She attended Blue Cliff College and received her dental assisting and x-ray certification in 2015. Working at Barataria Dental is the culmination of her goal to be a dental assistant since she was a freshman at L.W. Higgins High School. Maranda, her husband Chris, and their daughters Rylee and Andi live in Marrero.

Nona rejoined our team as Dr. Marias treatment coordinator in July 2018. She has been in the dental field for over 25 years. Nona graduated from LW Higgins in 1983, went to Delgado Community College for 2 years, and then to Eastern College for Dental Assisting. She is married to Aldo Duron and has two children, Brooke and Aldo Jr. Her grandson Allen is the newest addition to the family. Nona and her family live in Marrero. When she is not at Barataria Dental, her hobbies are dancing and working with her family in Durons Home Improvement.

This is Tran, she is one of our clinical assistants who partners with Trang our hygienist to make sure our patients have a great experience when they come for teeth cleaning. She also assists the doctors with procedures when needed.
