Dr. Rana Barakat became an orthodontist to fulfill her lifelong dream of creating beautiful smiles for her patients. Her passion for orthodontic care originated in her childhood, because she needed to have extensive work on her own teeth. When her treatment finished, Dr. Barakat became so elated looking at her new beautiful teeth in the mirror that she was inspired to become an orthodontist to help others feel the same way.
To this day, she has always believed that a beautiful smile is essential to achieving oral health as well as confidence. While Barakat Orthodontics uses the most innovative orthodontic technology available, it is Dr. Barakat and her teams personal touch that really makes patients feel so special. It is her priority to provide excellent orthodontic treatment, ensure optimal clinical results, and at the same provide a warm, and positive experience for patients.
Dr. Barakat completed her specialty training in Orthodontics at the prestigious Eastman Dental Center, University of Rochester, New York, in 1996. She attended the University of Tennessee, College of Dentistry in 1990 and received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) with honors in 1994. She attended Vanderbilt University for her undergraduate studies in 1987. Dr. Barakat regularly participates in continuing education programs to stay current with leading treatment techniques.
Dr. Barakat is a Board Certified Orthodontist, an achievement held by only 25% of all orthodontists. She has been featured in several magazines, including Health and Beauty, I am Modern, and Northern Virginia Magazine. Dr. Barakat has been voted Top Orthodontist by her peers in Health and Beauty Magazine (2006, 2007, 2008), Washingtonian Magazine, Top Orthodontist (consecutively 2009 2018), Northern Virginia Magazine (consecutively 2009 2018) and Virginia Living Magazine (consecutively 2011 2018). Most recently, Dr. Barakat has been voted a Top Dentist in the Nation by topDentist.

Very friendly and over the top nice. Everyone is so nice. I went because of the convenience of the location but good thing I did. My boy liked it also. They had bottles of sprinkling juice and roses for mothers for Mother's Day which was a nice touch.

Seeing Dr. Barakat was one of the best decisions I made. I saw her at the beginning of the pandemic and that's when I started my process. I couldn't be happier with how my teeth turned out. I never had to worry about my teeth movement progress and everything turned out perfectly. I also like her really nice and helpful staff.

I've been with Dr Barakat for years now. I originally started with an underbite where she and her team have truly given me a completely new and improved smile. she even recommended the perfect surgeon that could help me with my double jaw surgery that required braces in preparation of the surgery and for about a year after. She and the surgeon worked every step of the way with me on this journey and I couldn't be happier with the results. I dont leave reviews often but this is a total exception. It's absolutely been amazing having Dr. Barakat and Nina work on my teeth. It's been quite a process but it's all worth it. I've been going to Dr. Barakat since I was 10 years old and I cannot recommend her enough! I always receive compliments for my smile, even after 9 years of having my braces off! She also continues to provide me with all the tools I need to keep my teeth looking perfect! Truly the best of the best!
