Dr. Thomas Banta was raised in Jay County, graduating from Portland High School in 1969. He graduated from Indiana University in 1973 and was a science teacher at Wes-Del High School for nine years. Upon graduation from the IU School of Dentistry in 1986, he joined the practice of Dr. Wayne Donnally in Portland. Dr. Banta's wife, Debra, also a Portland native, worked for the Jay School Corporation for 19 years.

We had a big communication error with billing expectations. They stated they covered our insurance like our old dentist in Bluffton. It was partially true. They accepted the insurance, but they were out of network. Therefore, we received bills for thousands of dollars for which we were caught off guard. I understand if a business wants to have higher prices. However, I feel they should be up front about the prices. Update (8/20/2021) concerning their response. I'm attaching proof of their lies. The attached photo is their bill (in excess of $1,000) they turned into collections on me. This was for one; I repeat, one visit... and I had dental insurance!

Definitely the best dentist I have ever been to. If you are worried about getting a cavity drilled and it hurting DON'T because he uses this thing called, "The Wand" an it numbs you up so much more than a regular needle. I am yet to have a bad experience there. Dr. Banta is definitely the dentist you wanna see if you are worried about pain during cavities. He does a great job on crowns as well.
