Baltimore Periodontics Lasers & Dental Implants - Periodontist in Catonsville, MD

For a number of years, Dr. Ari Moskowitz has been voted by general dentists as one of the top periodontists in the Baltimore area (as surveyed by Baltimore Magazine). He is one of only 600 dentists across the United States to be trained in the Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST) /Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation Technique which dramatically reduces recovery times as compared to traditional gum grafting techniques for gum recession.

He received his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry (D.M.D.) from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1998. Immediately following dental school graduation, Dr. Moskowitz gained entrance to the prestigious University of Maryland- Baltimore College of Dental Surgery Periodontology Program for residency training, where he received a Certificate as a specialist in the field of Periodontics in 2001. After completing his residency training in Periodontology in 2001 Dr. Moskowitz opened Baltimore Periodontics Lasers & Dental Implants located in Catonsville, Maryland.

In 2006 after a rigorous review and examination by experts in the field of Periodontology, Dr. Moskowitz joined a small percentage of elite Periodontists who are Board Certified (at the time less than 2,000 Periodontists across the United States had achieved this status).

Dr. Moskowitz has a wife and 5 children and enjoys spending time with his family. He loves the outdoors, playing racquetball, reading and attending continuing education to ensure that he keeps up with the latest techniques and technology to always improve upon caring for his patients.

To ensure that he continues to be voted as one of the top Periodontists in the Baltimore area, Dr. Moskowitz constantly furthers his education by embracing technology and learning new and advanced periodontal techniques to provide the best possible outcome. He founded and coordinated the Team Approach to Dentistry Study Club to enhance communication and understanding of approaches to treating patients between dentists and dental specialists. He has also been a speaker at numerous dental study clubs on the subject of gum grafting, dental implants, LANAP, and bone regeneration techniques.

He is always searching for the most effective least invasive and most long term stable treatment options for his patients. Dr. Moskowitz is proud to be a Premier Certified Providers of the perioprotect periodontal tray system. This is a convenient and comfortable custom fit soft tray system that allows you to easily and effectively deliver antibacterial gel below the gum line. This helps to most effectively treat and control gum disease in the least invasive way possible. Dr. Moskowitz also uses the Periolase MVP-7 laser routinely after surgical procedures for bio-stimulation to reduce post surgical TMJ issues and to reduce postoperative pain while speeding up post surgical healing

His outstanding communication and coordination of patient care with referring general dentists along with his compassion for people and love of periodontics, medicine, and technology that improves peoples lives, while closely holding to traditional values, puts him in a league of his own. He always cares for each of his patients as he would want to be cared for, knowing what he knows about options and likely outcomes. He approaches each patient by listening carefully to their needs and concerns and then formulating the least invasive, most effective and efficient approach to addressing the patients concerns while achieving oral health and function.

A periodontist is trained to provide treatment for gum disease and restore missing teeth with dental implants. Periodontists specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum related problems and work to improve oral health.

Periodontal disease is most often painless in the early and moderate phases and then may become more noticeable and symptomatic in the later stages when its more difficult to control. If you have any, some, or all of the following symptoms then you need to see a periodontist right away: periodic bleeding or taste of blood in your mouth, any swelling of the gums that comes and goes, bad taste in your mouth, pain on flossing, on brushing, or on chewing or biting, shifting of your teeth or increase spacing between your teeth, or food trapping. The un-treated periodontal disease can increase your risk of developing or worsening other health issues so its important to identify it and address it as quickly as possible before your health further deteriorates. Dr. Ari Moskowitz may recommend different types of periodontal therapies and treatments such as gum grafting, bone grafting, laser gum disease treatment, dental implants or the perio protect gel tray system to improve your oral health.

No periodontist will have as nice a bedside manner or care for you as if you are their own family, like Dr Moskowitz will. Dr. Moskowitz offers several advanced treatments using innovative technologies you may not find elsewhere in Catonsville. If you are seeking gum disease treatment, you can come to our office for the LANAP laser protocol. If you are seeking treatment for gum recession, ask if you are a candidate for the Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation Technique. These are minimally invasive procedures that allows us to eradicate the infection in the mouth without incisions or sutures.

You may be embarrassed to smile fully if you have a gummy smile, but a cosmetic crown lengthening procedure can help to create a more attractive smile. At Baltimore Periodontics Lasers & Dental Implants, we are able to restore your confidence by performing teeth lengthening to reveal more of the tooth for not only a greater cosmetic appeal, but it can also help for more restorative dentistry procedures.

Crown lengthening also known as teeth lengthening is a procedure that allows for the exposure of more tooth structure in comparison to the gums. The reshaping of the gums for a desired tooth, or multiple teeth can lead to the adjustment of the newly exposed bone level. There are many dental conditions that may require crown lengthening as part of the restorative procedure. These procedures include, but are not limited to the support for a filing or a new dental crown. Within our Catonsville office, Dr. Moskowitz will discuss with you an individualized plan to insure the results you are looking for.

A gummy smile occurs when there is an excess amount of gum tissue and bone covering the surface of the tooth. This can make your teeth appear much shorter and asymmetrical. Some patients feel self conscious about their smile and desire periodontal plastic surgery to help remove and reshape the gums and bone for a more attractive appearance.

Crown lengthening serves both restorative and cosmetic purposes. A gummy smile is often the reason for this procedure, however there are many dental conditions that can lead to the necessity of this procedure. Some reasons include the following:

Crown lengthening is only necessary for restorative purposes. These include cases where a tooth has been worn down, possibly by nighttime grinding, and not enough of the tooth is above the gumline to support a filling or a crown. This is also the case if a tooth breaks at or just above the gumline. Sometimes a crown or filling will fall off/out of a tooth, and it turns out there is decay underneath. More tooth surface is needed to be able to place the crown or the filling.

These are cases when crown lengthening is truly necessary. But for people with gummy smiles, meaning they have an excessive amount of gum tissue around their upper teeth, while this could be classified as a cosmetic treatment, for the patients confidence in his or her smile it could be necessary. Crown lengthening in these cases beautifies the smile by exposing more of the crown (the visible portion) of the tooth and reducing the gum presence.

Dr. Moskowitz typically performs these procedures with the patient under local anesthesia. The goal varies between patients: in some cases removing gum tissue will be all that is required, but in others bone will also need to be removed.

Dr. Moskowitz makes cuts that pull the gums away from the teeth. This exposes the roots of the teeth and the surrounding bone. With gummy smiles, usually simply removing gum tissue can be sufficient. But most of the time for restorative cases, Dr. Moskowitz will need to remove some bone from around the roots of the teeth. When enough of the tooth has been exposed, the area is washed with sterile water and the gums are stitched back together.

Crown lengthening patients return to our offices in 7-10 days and we remove their stitches. Well need to see you again in 4-6 weeks for a follow-up. Your gums will need to heal for about three months before they are ready for the crown or other necessary treatment.

The full healing cycle, as mentioned above, is about three months. But thats to prepare for the restoration. Otherwise, patients can return to normal activity as their gums heal. Strenuous activity only needs to be avoided for 2-3 days because the increased blood pressure to the face can cause more bleeding.

For pain, you may only need ibuprofen or Tylenol, but we will give you a prescription for pain medication. Using an ice pack for the first few hours youre home will help with swelling. Follow a 20 minutes on/20 minutes off schedule. After two days of this, you can switch to moist heat for comfort.

No hot foods for 24 hours, and no rinsing of your mouth. These can both extend your bleeding. If bleeding does continue, place a moistened tea bag on the spot and apply light pressure for 20-30 minutes.

Your gums may not stop bleeding, at least not in the normal timeframe. Also, infection is always possible with dental procedures. Because more of the tooth root is exposed, and because this part of the tooth is not covered with enamel, patients can have increased sensitivity to hot and cold in these teeth. This passes with time, or when the crown is placed over the tooth.

I highly recommended this periodontics professional in Baltimore! They put a stop to my gum disease taking over my runaway tooth/gum decay. My regular dentist had no clue on reversing gum disease. Baltimore Periodontics has Laser treatment, Iorinse (molecular iodine), I got a Waterpik, cut the hot brew coffee only cold brew, floss with a Gum flossmate and regular scheduled cleaning have saved my teeth. Only a few periodontics are capable of laser treatment.
