A family dentist serves patients of most ages, addressing their different oral health needs as they grow older. Patients can keep seeing the same family dentist or the same group of family dentists for decades. Family dentist practices function as primary care dentists and treat family members such as parents, children, and grandparents.

Family dentists work with both children and adults to care for these patients as they grow and change. These dentists emphasize patient involvement by providing accessible, continuous, patient-centered, and comprehensive care. The hallmarks of many family dentistry practices include services that benefit patients at all stages of life, such as:

Family dentists make a point of getting to know their patients. They encourage regular checkups and catch emerging issues such as cavities. They provide continuity of care even if patients do not see the same professional on each visit. Information such as medical histories, diagnoses, and treatment plans are less likely to fall through any cracks. Centralized paperwork and familiarity with medical history also help dentists pinpoint and treat various oral health issues.

A family dentist can practice alone, but some partner with other dentists. Whatever the case, a family dentist treats various needs. Patients often turn to their family dental practice for checkups, cleanings, cavity prevention and treatment, tooth decay deterrence, and gum disease prevention. Some practices may even provide orthodontic services, cosmetic dentistry, pediatric dentistry, and other types of specialized dentistry. When necessary, family dentists refer patients to specialized dentists for other types of treatment.

A patient's first visit to a family dentist will consist of a thorough physical examination to assess their needs and current dental health. This will involve a dental exam and updated X-rays. X-rays are particularly essential as they can diagnose and evaluate any potential issues that an exam cannot detect. Balmoral Dental Center will also perform a thorough dental cleaning as part of the first visit. Then, once completed, our team will discuss any X-ray results and devise a customized treatment plan to meet each patient's unique needs.

A. Family dentists treat most ages, caring for both children and senior citizens. If the practice includes a pediatric dentist, it might accept infant patients. Otherwise, a family dentist tends to see children once they are in kindergarten.

A. Most likely, yes. However, if the cavity is severe enough, family dentists may need to refer patients elsewhere for more specialized care. Regular checkups with your family dentist can help prevent cavities.

A. In general, each patient should visit once or twice a year. Dentists prefer to see children every six months. Meanwhile, adults with teeth in excellent condition might visit only once a year. People who are pregnant, undergoing chemotherapy, or dealing with serious health issues may need to visit their dentist more frequently than twice a year. We can help determine your unique risk profile.

By visiting us as soon as possible, our team can help get you the professional treatment you need. Instead of waiting around and allowing the symptoms to get worse, we can provide you with treatment options.

A family dentist is a popular resource to utilize when looking for ways to prevent cavities. Additionally, they can help individuals identify the cause of the cavity, which is necessary when looking to prevent them from developing in the future.Cavities are caused when bacteria, acid and/or food particles are left on or in between the

Wondering whether a family dentist has any tips or tricks to get your child to brush their teeth? As a parent, it can be extremely difficult to get children to brush their teeth regularly. Thankfully, with the help of a family dentist, children can adopt new brushing habits to ensure that they maintain good oral

Teeth exist for more than simply making us look better. In fact, teeth are an essential part of our ability to function normally on a daily basis. Each one of our teeth serves an important purpose for eating food. The role of some teeth is simply to tear and cut the food, whereas others exist to

According to one family dentist, just because someone loses a tooth does not mean there is no way to save it. In fact, if you lose one, you have several options. Whether knocked out in a car accident, while playing sports or due to tooth decay, do not despair. Start by looking at the tips

Update from 08/19/2022 10 out of 10 would recommend So, to start off, I need to say that I have a weird fear of people (anyone) close to my face. My dental hygienist and I have an understand that no eye contact shall be made during my appointments. I get "Mr. Nose"... If you know, you know... And I just breathe deep and look to the left. I wear glasses with a big prescription so I can't see during this whole experience at the dentist. Today's visit was a cleaning and impressions for a night guard. Totally appreciate the fact that the impression goop was strawberry flavored. "How does that factor in when you don't eat it?", you might ask. Well, at just the time you feel like your gag reflex is going to kick in, the scent of strawberry flew into Mr. Nose and it was amazing and familiar from the old days of the pediatric dental office I went to. There was a moment where the dental hygienist and I made contact during the impressions and both immediately looked away in fear of explosion. Took some deep breaths from Mr. Nose and I was able to stable myself from my odd fear. Other random discussions occurred about tongue placement which was humorous for sure. I'm looking forward to future days of flavored toothpaste, maybe some flavored Mr. Nose, and chaps stick (some of my suggestions/requests). Plus side for the kids, there is a toy chest and they do carry some flavored tooth paste. Ended up at check out to discuss some Star Wars and I got to say, today was a good day.

I never write reviews but I had to for this one! Everyone I interacted with was amazing. The hygienist (Becca) was so personable and reassuring the whole time. When the dentist (Angela, I believe) came in she had such high positive energy which was very comforting, I personally love when people treat me like their bestie lol. I did not feel like a stranger to them at all! They worked very hard and intentionally on my teeth, its been a while since I've been to the dentist due to financial reasons but they did not make me feel less than or shameful at all. I appreciate them!

The office staff is so friendly and always do a great job in giving you an accurate estimate of any potential dental work. The dentists are understanding and make sure you're comfortable during any type of procedure. Very knowledgeable and sweet office all around!

Jessica was the dental technician assign to correct a partial plate fitment problem. She was totally awesome. Competent, professional, and friendly. She worked diligently for an hour-Checking fitment, grinding with skill, rechecking until it fit perfectly and the initial fitment issues were resolved. She is a credit to her trade and Balmoral dental.

I will admit that going to the dentist is not one of my favorite things to do but it certainly helps when the Dentist and staff create a welcoming atmosphere. There's a warm hello from Pam as I am seated. Shortly there is Bec(my hygienist) escorting me to the exam area. She quickly gives me an overview of what to expect . Before I know it she's completed her work and Dr AJ is there explaining next steps. No anxiety, no judgement, helpful advice. Thank you Dr AJ and Bec
