Dr. Lisa Baines grew up in the Springfield area. She chose our convenient location for Baines Dental Wellness because the dentist who previously owned a practice had such a respected reputation. He was known as a caring, community-focused dentist who was skilled at completing more elite and challenging treatments with unmatched artistry. We emulate and carry on a reputation of excellence, and creation of genuinely personal relationships with patients of all ages. Generosity and genuine compassion for others, especially in terms of oral and overall health, is our foundation. It helps foster a better, healthier you. Were a partner for you, your family, and your life.
Sometimes being a dentist means you have to think outside the box, and Dr. Baines has the vision and experience to do just that. She has a core belief in being as healthy as one can be, stemming from her journey with a child diagnosed with diabetes at an early age. Like any other medical malady, theres a common practice in dental care: taking the easy way out and merely managing disease instead of digging deeper towards a root cause. Now you need to speak with Dr. Baines, where extensive experience and modern yet compassionate care are what savvy Springfield families are talking about.

It was out of a process of elimination that I decided I wanted to be a dentist in Springfield. I started out pursuing engineering, only to realize that I would rather spend my days in direct care of people. I later switched to biology and pursued my doctoral degree in dentistry which has become my true passion. In 2007, I graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine.
To this day, I still enjoy learning; about dentistry, about health, about normal function and dysfunction, about how dentists are becoming the guardians of patient health. We make use of modern treatments and evolving technology. I have participated in many continuing education programs, learning from excellent mentors such as Dr. David Hornbook, a renowned educator and leader in cosmetic dentistry. Im also a certified provider for Invisalign orthodontic treatment in Springfield.
I provide dentistry from the heart, especially for parents and children. It all started when my son was three years old and continually crying for water and saying he was thirsty. This was the beginning of an experience that would forever change my familys life when he was later diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I would wonder what I did, what he ate, what virus or reaction could have caused this? Why did God pick him? Type 1 diabetes has made my husband and me stronger. It has strengthened my desire as a dentist to help children THRIVE and not just survive. It has set my soul on fire to help the next generation be the best version it can be. I love thinking outside of the box regarding being a Springfield dentist and in life in general.
Outside of my passion for dentistry, Im happily married to my husband Steven, co-owner and operator of B & H Roofing. My favorite interest outside the office includes cooking and sitting down for dinner with him alongside our three amazing children.
My second hobby is learning. I consider myself a constant student. Fifty percent of what students are taught in medical and dental school will be completely outdated in ten years. (You just dont know what fifty percent!)
I am a member of the Amplified Dynamics Leadership Team, focusing on building relationships and awareness of health both within the office and with patients. Lastly, my family participates in the Central Illinois Type 1 Diabetes Support Group. We can share information to help manage this disease and help our loved ones thrive instead of just survive.
The State Fair I am an Illinois State Fair junkie. I grew up down the road from the fair and we would go almost every day when I was a kid. We never rode the rides and barely spent a dollar once we got through the main entrance but it was a blast. I continue to do that with my kids. Its not really my husbands cup of tea so usually one of the Grandmas or Grandpa attends with us. We visit all the animals in the barns and meet some great people. When you spend time with the animal owners, you sometimes get invited on cool adventures, like walking a goat, corralling a hog, or sampling some of the homemade treats they brought with them to snack on during fair week. From the dog shows, hobbies art and crafts displays, fire department education, fishing in conservation, to milking the cow, we thoroughly enjoy the state fair and spend very long days there. I jokingly say that its not a successful trip to the fair unless a child conks out in a stroller.
We have a great relationship with our neighbors. They are a hard-working couple who loves (tolerates) our kids as much as we do! We often take turns making dinner for each other, as we all enjoy cooking, grilling, and experimenting with recipes. When doing yard projects, they gladly let the kids join in to move dirt, dig a hole, or other things. They are also known for their endless supply of stories. When the weather is right, we will sit by the fire in the evening for nights in a row. In this picture, the fire was so hot that we escaped the heat by laying down to toast our marshmallows.
We love outdoor activities, hunting, fishing, playing in the creek, riding bikes, and doing projects. One of those outdoor activities is having a garden. We try growing different items every year, but asparagus, tomatoes, and cucumbers are a staple. Lettuce varieties are fun because they grow so quickly and we can measure them with a ruler and track them within weeks. We are always amazed by how quickly asparagus grows. It can grow 3 inches or more overnight it seems. The kids love the asparagus and cucumbers, but I still cant get them to like tomatoes.
I like llamas so I am imparting that love to my daughter. In the past, we could see llamas at the state fair, but recently we keep our eyes open for Llamas Days at different farms. They are so fluffy, have super visible teeth and I just think they are interesting and unique.
We have a bearded dragon! I am a cat lover but my sinuses and allergies dont agree so when my 8-year old asked for a reptile I was ok with it! Little did we know that bearded dragons are kind of lazy and have sluggish metabolisms. Warm baths are incorporated in its care to keep it regulated.
Ive always loved art and being creative. When my kids ask me to paint their faces on a random Wednesday, I usually agree. Correct, this was not Halloween. Just a normal Wednesday filled with fun and laughter!
My husband Steve is co-owner / operator of a roofing company, B & H Roofing. He has a biology medical science degree but enjoys being outdoors and found his way to roofing during his college summer job. One day our kids will convince him to put Christmas lights on our house. He refuses to get on a roof and do that in his off time!
