Call him Dr. Nick, or Dr. B, but either way he is a bona fide kid at heart and nerd in the brain. He is battle born and raised in Carson City, NV, and his personal and educational path after graduating from Carson High in 1997 is literally all over the map and somewhat dizzying. He graduated cum laude (latin for huge geek) with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame while serving as the fearless captain of the Notre Dame Ski Team. Dr. Nick then graduated with honors from the prestigious Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco, CA.

From there, he completed a Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Tufts University-New England Medical Center in Boston, MA, where he published an article in the Journal of the Massachusetts Dental Society on a case report of a rare disease called aggressive fibromatosis treated with hemi-maxillectomy. Also, ask him about the time in the ER when he sutured some Bostonians ear back on while reading a how-to DIY manual on sewing human ears after someone else chewed it off just like Mike Tyson did to Evander Holyfield. Somehow, still alive, he then limped back to San Francisco for his residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of the Pacific and was honored with both his masters degree and specialty certification. During his residency, Dr. Nick was heavily involved with both the Craniofacial Abnormalities and Genetics and the Stem Cell and Craniofacial Tissue Engineering Laboratories.

Next to surviving the running with the bulls in Spain, one of Dr. Nicks most memorable experiences is when he traveled to Peru over several weeks for the treatment, diagnosis, and genetic testing of hundreds of children born with craniofacial defects such as cleft lip and palate. As a result, he has co-authored more than 20 publications in both craniofacial genetics and stem cell research. For such extreme nerdiness, he was awarded with the coveted annual Harry Sicher Research Award which recognizes only the top and best overall research submitted by all orthodontic residencies in the country and was subsequently featured as a white-coat clad centerfold in the Pacific Review, and we have proof.

Furthermore, Dr. Nicks own clinical patient and research article on 3-dimensional superimposition imaging and analysis was featured on the cover of the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics in January 2015, a distinguished honor achieved by very few orthodontists Exhausted yet? We are Aside from all the serious nerdy business, he loves playing like a kid outdoors on the ski slopes, golf courses, and the alpine lakes on his paddle board. He is also a CrossFit junkie, Notre Dame/49ers/Giants fanatic, and is a jokester to the core so make sure you visit us heavily armed with your favorite dad jokes.

Quinn, aka Q-Ball, aka Batman, is a Boston Terrier through and through. His life is completed with the 3 B's: balls, bacon, and basking in the sun. He is officially the oldest (in dog years) member of the {b} ortho family and his gray beard is starting to match that of his dad's. When you see Q, ask him to sit and he'll kindly put out his paw for a gentlemanly paw/hand shake, but only if you have a cookie in the other.

Metal brackets are the most common treatment method for braces in Reno and have been successfully used for decades. They consist of standard metal brackets that are placed on your tooth with a special adhesive and are connected using a metal wire. Our orthodontist will carefully place the bracket on your tooth in a way that will pull your teeth into proper alignment, leaving you with straight teeth and proper jaw placement. They also require periodic tightening to allow steady pressure to gradually straighten your teeth and align your jaw.

These are still traditional braces but rather than using metal brackets, these braces require the use of clear brackets. They blend in better with your teeth and are usually less noticeable. Clear braces are fixed to your teeth just like conventional metal braces. The clear brackets are attached to each tooth using a special adhesive and are then connected using a wire. Our Reno orthodontist will carefully place the bracket on your tooth in a way that will pull your teeth into proper alignment, leaving you with straight teeth and proper jaw placement. They also require periodic tightening to allow steady pressure to gradually straighten your teeth and align your jaw.
