Following dental school, Dr. Kumar completed a one-year residency which provided him with extensive training in surgical and implant dentistry, complex restorative dentistry, and management of medically compromised patients.
Dr. Kumar is very active in the dental community and is a past member of the American Dental Association, Connecticut state dental association, Hartford dental society, and Massachusetts dental society. He is a current member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the Academy of GP Orthodontics. He is also active in the local study club of spear education where a group of local dentists meet monthly and discuss complex cases and learn from each other.
Dr. Kumar is dedicated to staying current with the fast-paced ever-changing world of dentistry. He is always keen to learn new technologies and products. When Dr. Kumar is not serving patients, he enjoys time with his and his three children. He enjoys golf, tennis, cooking, cricket, marvel movies and likes to go on hikes with his children. He recently started playing squash with his friends.
Dentist anesthesiologist Dr. Chet Sokolowski attended St. Johns University, Jamaica, New York, where he obtained a B.S. in pharmacy. He became a registered pharmacist, then went on to New York University College of Dentistry to earn his D.D.S. degree.
After practicing general dentistry for 20 years, Dr. Sokolowski decided to follow a new career path, becoming a dental anesthesiologist. He was awarded a certificate in I.V. sedation from the Medical College of Georgia, and then completed a three-year dental anesthesia residency at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry/University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in a hospital-based medical anesthesiology program.
Dr. Sokolowski currently is a part-time assistant clinical professor of dental anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh and holds a position as staff dentist anesthesiologist at Yale in the dental pediatric residency program. He spends the remainder of his time in private practice, focused on providing sedation/general anesthesia to the special-needs, pediatric, and phobic adult dental populations.
Dr. Sokolowski is board certified and a diplomate in both the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology (ADBA) and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology (NDBA). He is also a board examiner for the oral boards for candidates applying for board certification in the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology. In addition, Dr. Sokolowski is a member of the Connecticut State Dental Association Anesthesia Task Force. He is licensed to provide anesthesia in Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

What a great practice! Dr. Kumar saw me quickly when I called with a broken tooth and was patient answering all my questions - helped me decide the best course of action. Cheri at the front desk couldn't be nicer!

Dr. Kumar, Sarah and Sherry are Fantastic! We found Dr. Kumar via a community group for special needs parents. Those (like myself) looking for a kind, gentle, patient dentist were all told of Dr. Kumar. And they were all right! He is patient, kind, soft spoken, and terrific with young people with sensory processing disorder and Autism. SO glad we found him. And not only am I taking my child to him (who is 20 yrs old), but I transferred to him as well. HIGHLY recommend. Thank you. Diane

I would recommend them to anyone I know. I did research before coming to Avon Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. They are professional and truly care about enhancing your smile and making you feel comfortable. The team is super knowledgeable and work very well together. Highly recommend!

Dr. Rakesh is a perfectionist and one of the best dentist in the areas. Even though he was not my primary dentist, I had called him over last Saturday weekend late evening for a help in pain of my tooth ( when my primary dentist did not had an emergency ph number to contact in case of emergency ) and was on call with me to issue the medication to reduce my pain and even talk to pharmacy mid-night to help me in prescription. Pain was reduced for Sunday and was able to wait for Monday. Monday he looked into detail and spent a lot of time with utmost patience on the issue and referred me to other dentist for an RC and got my RC done on Tuesday morning. He followed up couple of times next day to check on me and how I was feeling. He has been always helpful and takes time on diagnosis always. Will always recommend him to anyone. Front desk support Cynthia is also awesome and helps the process go smooth and all staff is excellent and very supportive. The place is super clean. Highly recommend again.

I suffered with facial pain for nine years. I was unable to brush my teeth let alone go to a dentist. When the condition was finally resolved, I knew I had to once again get dental care. I saw several dentists and was very distraught because I couldn't find one who cared to understand my fear of a reoccurrence of my condition as a result of dental work. Then I found Dr. Kumar, Molly and Cynthia and the staff at Avon Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. They are not just outstanding professionals but wonderful, kind, and caring people. It is over an hour drive for me to their office but I would drive hours more if needed to continue as their patient.
