When I was a child, I was scared of the dentist. Luckily, I had a pediatric dentist who was patient and kind; he listened to me and made me feel safe taking time to build trust and, in doing so, he completely changed the way I felt about an approaching dental visit.
The care I received from my dentist and his team inspired me. They were calm and gentle, encouraging, and honest. They connected with me in a non-threatening manner, and made sure I always knew that I was the most important person in the room.
I grew up knowing I wanted to help children in the way I was helped, establishing comfort in the dental environment and starting little ones on the path to a lifetime of healthy smiles! Now, almost 15 years after starting to practice, I can say I love everything about my work almost as much as I treasure each child I have had the honor to meet and get to know.
As a pediatric dentist, I am passionate about making sure patients enjoy their time in the office. It is truly fun to chat with kids all day, hearing their stories of different activities, vacations, and things that are important to them. Seeing a child mature, and being part of their life, is deeply rewarding; I miss my patients when they decide they are old enough to move on to a general dentist.
As a pediatric dentist, I am just as passionate about providing each patient with the highestquality of dentistry. Through preventive care and early intervention we are able to establish oral health. And with useful, practical education, about nutrition and home dental hygiene, we help children develop a lifetime of healthy behaviors.
Throughout the year, I seek out continuing education classes to help ensure I am giving my patients the most up-to-date treatment and care. Likewise, my staff and I attend annual conferences and regularly complete online courses. Being a faculty member at UAB also keeps me current on the latest research, emerging trends, and new developments in pediatric dentistry.
I grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and have lived here in Auburn for a decade and a half. If Im not seeing patients, Im almost always to be found with my family: my wife Elizabeth and I have four active children, along with two dogs (Tucker works alongside me in the office as a therapy dog) and two cats. Yes, there is always something happening in our home! When we can get away, we love offshore fishing and relaxing at the beach.
