Prosthodontics is the broadest specialty in dentistry. The rehabilitation of worn, broken down, unattractive teeth restored with crowns and/or veneers, along with all aspects of cosmetic dentistry and hygiene are services we provide.
Our specialty is replacing missing teeth through the use ofcrowns, dental implants, mini dental implants, dentures and partials, and other prosthetics. Dr. Blackburn was inspired to pursue dentistry by his uncle who was a long time dentist. He received his Bachelors Degree in Biology and Chemistry from Morehouse in 1961, and just four years later, graduated from Meharry Medical College with a Doctor of Dental Science.
After serving as an intern at Sydenham Hospital in New York and receiving his Postgraduate Certificate in Prosthodontics from New York Universitys College of Dentistry, Dr. Blackburn opened up his own dentistry practice in 1970 in Downtown Atlanta, GA.
Dr. Blackburn was a member of the American Board of Prosthodontics from 1976 to 2000 and is a current member of the Fifth District Dental Society, North Georgia Dental Society, Georgia Dental Society, and Georgia Dental Association.
Dr. Blackburn III graduated from Morehouse College in 1993 with a Bachelors Degree in History. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an Army Officer and still serves as a Lt. Colonel in the Reserves.
Dr. Blackburn came back to Georgia for his postgraduate studies and received his Post Graduate Specialty Certificate in Prosthodontics in 2002 from the Medical College of Georgias School of Dentistry.
Replacing missing teeth or restoring badly damaged teeth using prosthetics while maintaining esthetics is both a skill and an art, but Dr. Blackburn does it with ease so much the he has even coined his own term prosthoesthetics.
Dr. Blackburn is a member of the Hinman Dental Society, Georgia Dental Society, American Dental Association, National Dental Association, and American College of Prosthodontics. In the past, Dr. Blackburn has given many lectures in Atlanta to many organizations which include the Atlanta College of Prosthodontics, North Georgia Dental Society, and various Metro Atlanta study clubs.
Prosthodontics is the most complex specialty; it utilizes all aspects of dentistry and requires a broad dental knowledge base. Most dentists just treat one tooth at a time while prosthodontists treats the entire condition of the mouth, from replacing missing teeth to the bite to muscle movement while chewing to esthetics.
In his spare time, Dr. Blackburn enjoys studying history, traveling to different states and countries, outdoor water activities, and spending time with his children. Dr. Blackburn is also a chairman for a fraternity committee that mentors middle school aged boys.
