My passion is seeing children grow and develop properly with healthy airways and great sleep habits. I have always wanted to be a pediatric dentist since I was 8 years old. For over 20 years I have been committed to making every child and family feel safe, comfortable, and welcome. As a mother of two, I understand the importance, and hard work that goes into instilling good sleep and dental habits from an early age. Our mission at Ashburn Childrens Dentistry is to treat the reasons why dental and health issues occur, thus preventing dental problems and illness later on by Growing Healthy Faces, developing an optimal physiologic airway and breathing pattern as early as possible.

My passion is improving overall health through facial growth guidance and airway development. Caring for children is so powerful and rewarding, and with that, understanding the importance of utilizing gentle and minimal intervention therapies. Treating the source of their issues instead of symptoms and focusing on early prevention has been critical to my role in educating parents and making a difference in their childs development into a healthy and resilient adult.

Natalia I. Chalmers DDS, MHSc, PhD has more than 20 years of clinical and research experience in pediatric dentistry. Dr. Chalmers has dedicated her career to serving the dental needs of children in private practice, educational research, and national leadership roles.

Our team at Ashburn Childrens Dentistry knows that you want nothing but the best for your children at every age. Thats why we invest in the best technology to identify cavities and diagnose other oral health issues before they become more significant and costly problems. Weve also selected technology that makes treatment more efficient, effective, and comfortable for our young patients. Below we have catalogued the state-of-the-art technology we offer and detailed how each system supports our goal of providing the highest-level of dental care possible.

Our CBCT system gives our dentists the clearest view of each patients mouth, jaw, and airways. The scans generated with this system allow us to perform comprehensive evaluations related to the health and function of key internal structures.

CBCT stands for cone beam computed tomography. This type of advanced imaging system generates high-resolution 3D images of the areas being examined. The detailed CBCT images surpass the quality of traditional dental X-rays, clearly showing bone, dental structures, nerves, and soft tissue, which allows our pediatric dentists to formulate accurate diagnoses and aids in precise treatment planning. Our CBCT system can capture a variety of images and angles, some of which include a panoramic scan of your childs mouth, a Ceph scan (a scan of the side of the cranium), and an airway scan that can evaluate breathing challenges and capabilities. CBCT scans represent the most advanced level of diagnostic imaging a dental practice can provide and we are proud to be able to offer our patients this incredible technology in the comfort of our office.

The high-performance Fotona LightWalker offers an impressive degree of treatment versatility. From soft tissue to hard tissue procedures, LightWalker delivers outstanding precision and speed, while optimizing patient comfort and treatment efficiency.

Low level lasers, which are also called soft or cold lasers, can be used in dentistry for a variety of exciting applications. We use low level laser therapy to primarily treat pain and inflammation non-invasively, with a 85 95% efficacy rate and no negative side effects. When utilized by our experienced dentists, low level lasers can be used to accelerate healing and tissue repair, control inflammation, reduce scar formation, promote wound healing, stimulate bone repair/remodeling, and reduce discomfort. This type of laser does not generate heat and simply exposes targeted tissue to light particles, producing therapeutic benefits with no side effects.

Among the newest technological advancements in our office are our SOPROLIFE (LIFE stands for light induced fluorescence evaluator) HD Intraoral Cameras. We use this laser high-definition intraoral camera as a part of every dental exam to evaluate teeth and detect areas of decay that the naked eye and X-rays can sometimes miss. This advanced camera can even illuminate decay on the viewing screen to help show you where your dentist is looking, point out specific areas of concern, and differentiate the degree of decay that is present. Most importantly, our SOPROLIFE cameras help provide more accurate diagnoses when decay is in its earliest stages and enable our dentists to proceed with the most effective and conservative approach for treatment.

The iTero Element 5D Imaging System is the most advanced intraoral scanner available. This versatile technology allows our dentists to capture detailed 3D scans of the teeth for a variety of applications.

When it comes to 3D imaging, the iTero Element 5D intraoral scanner and imaging system represents the pinnacle of todays dental technology. This dynamic system is one of our most powerful diagnostic and treatment planning tools. The iTero Element 5D operates without radiation and can be used to create 3D digital impressions, capture clear oral scans, detect caries between teeth, and perform digital treatment simulation. The beautiful digital display allows patients and their parents to visualize problem areas and engage with treatment plans in an interactive way. Treatment progress can also be visualized with this system to show patients how their smile is improving with each visit.

The portable DEXIS CariVu device helps our dentists detect carious lesions (or caries), which are areas of tooth demineralization that have occurred, leaving the tooth more vulnerable to decay. DEXIS CariVu uses transillumination technology to make caries and cracks more apparent at the earliest stage so that effective intervention can be performed to reinforce the tooth and prevent the development of more serious decay.

At Ashburn Childrens Dentistry we offer the latest in digital X-ray technology to detect a broad spectrum of dental and oral health problems our patients may be experiencing. Unlike conventional X-rayswhich were time-consuming, emitted dangerous levels of radiation, and did not always produce the highest-quality diagnostic imagesour advanced digital X-ray system is quicker and safer, and provides high-resolution images that can be easily enlarged for closer inspection. Digital X-rays are an important part of annual dental examinations, allowing our dentists to identify problems early and keep a close watch on emerging issues. When patients come in with specific complaints, various types of digital X-rays (periapical, panoramic, and cephalometric radiographs) can provide images that are key to achieving accurate diagnoses and planning successful treatment.

Quick, customized SmileLase treatments allow our dentists to connect neurologic pathways that may be preventing proper function and causing discomfort. These touch-free, infrared healing treatments are based on cutting-edge scientific research and technological advancements to benefit complex patients affected by irregular development, pain, and/or trauma. SmileLase is FDA-approved and provides our dentists with yet another state-of-the-art treatment option for safely and effectively improving patients health and facial beauty.

We offer at-home WatchPAT sleep study tests to help diagnose pediatric sleep apnea and other sleep-disturbing breathing issues. The WatchPAT system from Itamar Medical makes the sleep study process simple. The comfortable, non-intrusive equipment is worn while your child sleeps and collects all the important data needed to make an accurate diagnosis. The data collected by WatchPAT is sent to a licensed sleep physician in Washington State for interpretation and diagnosis. Best of all, results are received within 15 minutes of downloading the data! Our dentists recommend WatchPAT for children who are 65 pounds or more, typically while other diagnostic records are being obtained.

The HRPO tool we use for our patients essentially tells us how much oxygen is in the blood and how much distress the body is in while sleeping. The information gathered with the HRPO tool allows us to evaluate a patients breathing from a physiological standpoint. HRPO gives us information about where an individual is starting and how much they are struggling, providing a quantitative benchmark to monitor and track improvement.

Our office offers laser dentistry with the Waterlase all-tissue dental laser, which can eliminate the need for anesthesia and drills for a wide spectrum of dental procedures. Waterlase has completely revolutionized the dental experience for todays children by improving comfort, enhancing treatment speed, reducing noise levels, and optimizing treatment outcomes. With Waterlase, our dentists can perform virtually pain-free dental fillings without drilling and the need for local anesthetic injections or chemicals. This incredible laser technology selectively removes only the decayed portion of the tooth, which allows our dentists to conserve more healthy tooth structure. Waterlase is also used to perform gum and tissue surgeries, eliminating the need for scalpels and sutures while minimizing pre- and post-operative bleeding and inflammation. Additionally, surgical incisions created with the Waterlase heal significantly faster than those made with a scalpel, and no scar tissue forms during the healing process.

I have an extremely anxious 6 year old who has had difficult dental expereinces in the past. However, we had a dental emergency that required an extraction and a filling. We were offered a same day appointment. During the exam and procedure, Dr. Krystal took the time to comfort my daughter and explain the process. Dr. Krystal even sang a song while she preformed the entire procedure. The song relaxed my daughter and me (the anxious mother). My daughter can not stop talking about the experience and says that she only wants go to that dentist. I can not say enough about the care and attention Dr. Duru and Dr. Krystal provide their patients. It is truly remarkable.

I had a great experience taking in my three yr old, who was been a huge mouth breather, sputtering when eats or drinks, and sleep problems. The staff was wonderful with her, engaging and encouraging her while they worked with me to identify the problems she may have. They listened to me, talked me thru my concerns for my daughter and helped me plan the best treatment for her. They even offered cold bottle water as I was heading out, knowing we drove an hr to make it to the appointment. All of the staff really took care of us, going above and beyond to make my lil one comfortable, and I am looking forward to working with them in the future!

My 6-year old daughter normally goes to another dentist in Fairfax but when her recently placed crown fell out Ashburn Children's Dentistry saw us on an emergency basis the same day. Her original dentist who did the first crown could not see us the same day even though it was their crown that fell out. From the first phone call to see if my daughter could be seen to walking out the door we had a great experience. Every single person we came in contact with - the front desk staff, Megs, Dr. Krystle, and the dental hygienist whose name I have unfortunately forgotten - were all so accommodating and very sweet. They took their time with my daughter, explaining to her what was going to happen, made her comfortable before the procedure, and of course bribed her with a balloon and some extra "prizes" when we walked out the door. She has some dental anxiety (just like her mom) but that made things much better in the end. She told me she loved this dentist and hoped we could come here again. Megs was so nice to us and really went above and beyond - offering me water, putting on a movie for my daughter, and just being all around helpful and sweet. Dr. Krystle was also very good with my daughter; she was patient and reassuring but firm and steadyhanded and got the job done very quickly. She also spent time explaining everything to me. The office itself is so welcoming. They still have solid COVID procedures. The office was very clean from top to bottom. There is a play area inside the big tree, a movie area, video games, an air hockey table, and plenty of comfortable seating for adults. Each dental chair has a TV and over-the-ear headphones with a variety of movies and TV shows. I have never seen a dental office that offers so much to distract and comfort kids. Also important to note is that they offer laser dentistry and modern x-rays and equipment. Their holistic view on dental health also sets them apart from other dental practices. I have not seen such a forward-thinking pediatric dentist. In the end, the only issue I had is that the payment did not make sense. I got three invoices with three different amounts on them. I paid $128 upfront for the appointment. An employee then explained separate charges for the crown and had me sign off before they did the procedure. They also took x-rays and pictures which I believe was a separate charge. Then in the end when I left I paid $313. All in all it was a pretty expensive trip to the dentist but I expected that it would be given the crown situation. They fitted a new crown instead of using the original, which was fine and made sense. The nitrous oxide was $100 in and of itself. Was the service, procedure, expertise, and outcome worth it? Absolutely. This was a great experience. I have no regrets about bringing my daughter here and would come again. 5 stars, no question.

My recent experience at Ashburn Children's Dentistry was shockingly amazing! In my years of taking my children to their doctors and dentists, I have yet to meet a medical facility where everyone was so kind, helpful, and gracious. They went above and beyond what a typical dentistry office would do for their patients and family, and I cannot sing enough praises! Dr. Krystle has a lot of experience working with young children. This is evident by the fact that she was able to communicate with and comfort a scared 3-year-old during his tooth extraction. She and her dental assistant, Megs, talked to my son throughout his procedure and used descriptive words ("ketchup" instead of blood, for example) so that my son could understand what was happening without getting worked up. I like her bedside manner. She was thorough, logical, and patient in explaining to me the reasons why an extraction is recommended versus a pulpotomy. It's fresh air when someone takes the time to explain rather than get annoyed by questions. While this was happening, office staff, Gabby and Jeanette, watched my 21-months old twins! Can you believe that? Due to childcare issues, I was "that" mom who brought the whole fam. My twins were not the easiest to handle, and I felt torn between wanting to be there for my son during his procedure and needing to care for my rambunctious twins. Thanks to the staff who stepped in to help, I could be there for my son while my twins happily enjoyed some Cocomelon. After the procedure, Megs walked me and the kids to the car and helped us get situated. Three kids under 3 isn't a walk in the park, and I appreciate Ashburn Children's Dentistry for helping a mama out during this time of high stress! That night, Dr. Krystle texted me to check in on my son and how he was feeling. Other than "above and beyond," I don't know how else to describe Ashburn Children's Dentistry. I highly recommend them to parents looking for the best dentist's office in Northern Virginia!

One word to describe my experience with Ashburn Children's Dentistry is upsetting. I find myself getting upset every time I even think about this place. We wasted precious time, resources and money here. The doctor there told me that my son had a severe lip and tongue tie and that he was being referred immediately for a sleep study and to a cranial osteopathy doctor. Weeks went by. No one called. I followed up with Ashburn Children's Dentistry several times and was repeatedly told that I would be sent the information for my son's referrals to my email. Never received anything. I called and left messages. They stopped returning my calls. So like I said before. It was a complete waste of our time, resources and money. Ashburn Children's Dentistry took our money and did nothing for us and my son is who had to suffer from their negligence.

I CANNOT emphasize enough how much I adore this place. Recently, I took my 3 year old special needs son for a cleaning. I was a little apprehensive considering he does not act like a typical child. My concerns quickly dissipated upon arrival. Through the entire process they were extremely understanding and accommodating based upon his needs. Megs is a wonder dental hygienist and was very patient with my son. Dr. Lynda gave some excellent advice and also displayed great patience while evaluating. Also special shout out to the front desk staff! They were great!

Our experience has been great! From office staff to dentist. My baby had 5 ties/buccal (both lips, tongue, and both cheeks) and I went in very overwhelmed and honestly felt defeated. They provided me with education, compassion, and quality service from the beginning of our journey until the end. Dr. Lynda and her staff go above and beyond. She even texted at 10pm the night of my daughter's revisions to make sure all was well. They are professional, reliable, affordable, and friendly. And you can tell the staff enjoys their jobs and are respectful of each other. I can't say enough positive...wish I could give 6 stars!

My son was immediately charmed by the staff & extremely kid-friendly lobby (we even had to stay after his appointment to play a while longer). They were not judgmental at all, & gave my son encouragement to brush longer by giving him a timer. What he didn't notice (but what really impressed me) was the cutting edge technology they use. We will be here for the long-term. Thank you Antonio, Amy, & Dr. Dean-Duru!

Scheduling an appointment for my two boys was very easy. What I liked most was the initial appointment was done via phone. They called me to go over their history and what our concerns were. The assistant was very thorough in their process and was very clear about their insurance policy. She even went as far to verify my coverage for me and was able to tell me what I have available to me. Everyone was so nice and polite. I'd highly recommend them.

We have been coming to see Dr Lynda since the kids were 2. She is amazing with all children and my youngest has autism and she works beautifully with him. My niece is extremely reluctant to go to the dentist but loves to visit Dr Lynda. They were also able to do sedation dentistry in office instead of going to the hospital.
