Prior to graduation, he spent time as a resident general dentist in Togas, Maine at the oldest VA hospital in the country. In 1983, Dr. Coughlin began practicing in what was to become the first Baystate Dental office in Springfield. He is currently on the staff at Baystate Medical Center, Mercy Hospital and Mary Lane Hospital. Dr. Kevin Coughlin is one of the only dentists in the country with both a Fellowship and Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry. He is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Implantology and a certified instructor in the International Association of Orthodontics.
Since 1983, Dr. Coughlin has placed thousands of dental implants. At Ascent Dental Care, we believe that not all dental implants are created equally and our goal is to identify the most effective dental implant system that also meets each individual patients clinical and aesthetic demands. An implant supported bridge is a restorative solution for spaces where three or more adjacent teeth are missing. This restoration typically requires two implants to support the porcelain bridge. The bridge provides a functional and aesthetic replacement for a patients natural teeth.
For patients who are missing many or all of their teeth, implant supported dentures may be an alternative to traditional dentures. This solution requires the placement of two or more implants. In order to replace a full arch denture, a minimum of four implants is generally recommended. Eligibility for this solution is dependent upon a number of factors, with jaw bone density being one of the most significant determining factors.
Traditional dentures rely on an acrylic base that sits directly on the gums, held in place by a paste or adhesive. Using implants as supports for dentures allows for a smaller and more comfortable base and less shifting of the prosthesis during use.
Implants can support both full and partial dentures as well as both fixed and removable dentures.If a removable denture is selected, the denture will snap on to the implant rather than requiring the use of denture paste or adhesives.
This procedure is a unique implant solution that allows patients with a completely edentulous (toothless) upper or lower arch to replace all of the teeth in that arch using only four implants as anchors.
There are times when a full size implant is not a viable option, and in many cases an MDI may be a great solution. Small spaces or inadequate bone mass in the jaw may prevent the use of traditional implants. Mini Dental Implants are similar to regular implants but, as the name suggests, are significantly smaller in diameter. Dental implants typically take 2 visits and require a waiting period of a few months from the time of implant placement to the time the permanent replacement tooth can be placed. The placement of MDIs is minimally invasive, often requiring only local anesthetic and no sutures. For this reason, MDIs can often be placed with the final replacement toothin one day.
With this technique, specialized software is used to create custom surgical guides. These guides direct the exact location, angle, and depth of each implant placement. The use of the guide increases the accuracy, efficiency, safety, and predictability of the procedure.

BUYER BEWARE !!!!!!!! Acent dental is a butcher shop. I walked in excited to get dental implants and I'm now (thanks to Dr.Shah ) undergoing jaw reconstructive surgery including bone grafting. Naturally I've asked for a refund since obviously I cannot have dental implants. However my refund is being held hostage until I sign a confidentiality agreement. I now speak with a lisp and have a noticeable droop of my lower left lip. Please do better research than I did. Dr. Shah pretends to be concerned while at the same time taking no responsibility for his actions. Trusting Ascent Dental is one of the worst decisions of my life.

Do not keep calling to reschedule! I'll request an appointment online as soon as I can! I don't make or take calls, because forced social situations are overwhelming! I'm waiting on my PVTA ADA reauthorization application to be approved, before I can reschedule. (They did not let me know, before it expired, so I can't book rides for the time being.) The approval process takes up three weeks

All the staff that I had the pleasure to meet and work with were amazing. From Dr. Calabrese to Erin, Jen, Joel and all the administrative staff. I walked in needing a lot of work and was made to feel welcome and not judged. I looked forward to all of my appointments because of this and now have a healthier happier smile. Thanks to all of you. I've been searching for a good dentist for a loooong time! And i finally found them! A few years ago i found Ascent Dental and Dr. Choi and now my anxiety about my dental health is Gone! I have Multiple health conditions/allergies and after explaining All of them with Dr. Choi (to which he actually listened) he accommodated and was Extremely gentle, explaining what he was going to do as he went! If i needed my head tilted up slightly, he obliged and didn't complain! (Last dentist complained of his neck hurting if he tilted my head up...slightly) and they have all the state of the art equipment and its spotless , no dust in the windows! Lol the best part is they took my insurance!

I recently had a deep cleaning which I absolutely hate but the first time I went, Lynn was so patient and understanding with me. The second round, I had Jess and she was just as amazing. The staff are so kind and explain things well. I would definitely recommend to them to my family and friends.

I have been going to Ascent for about 3 years now. The best dental hygienist I've ever, ever had is Jess F. Our schedules were mixed up for a while but we have reconnected and although the other hygienists did an excellent job during the interim, Jess is my person. She does a wonderful job and never makes you hate going to the dentist. Thank you Ascent for finding one of the main reasons me and my whole family are patients.

I went to Ascent Dental for the first time yesterday. The staff were all very nice, and made sure I was comfortable the entire time! They are very accommodating to people who have intellectual disabilities, making sure you understand everything that's happening. I didn't feel rushed, either. For the first time, I had a truly amazing dental experience! UPDATE: I had to take a star away, because their demand for appointment confirmation via phone call can be very unnerving to someone who has ASD! (My last dentist didn't make me do that.) I get extremely agitated with forced social situations. (I'm actually trying not to cry right now!) Text messaging works best, if I'm supposed to respond.

I needed an emergency visit to pull an infected tooth, and my primary dentist's office was closed. Ascent got me in immediately. Dr. Chou and his assistant Kate were amazing. They kept me calm, helped minimize my pain, and gave me good discharge instructions for a speedy recovery at home. I'm so grateful I went there and would highly recommend this practice and their staff.

Overcharges. Paid $700 for a deep cleaning that should be cover by insurance. Staff said: I didn't say anything. They didn't ask, and recommended i do it. Lost a customer. Bad service.
